@666Alester this version is up there with Lukes I'm in US and play it every day on CD The Golden Sound of Irish Folk as it reminds me of home and have been in a similar situation as Paddy K. The best instrumental version is by a well known Dublin uilleann piper Mick O Brien. Go to YouTube "Stormy Sunset by Alan Kingwell" and let us know what you think.
@Seanmcdhuibhne Hi friend, I think as a music to listen and to drink a beer this version of the Fair Isle Folk. is better. But since I also like to paint, I think the music that is put on the background of the 'Stormy Sunset' is splendid. That Alan Kingwell knows well how to paint. I would need this instrumental music myself when painting. It is an art in itself to paint a wave, water is very difficult to paint.
the finest version of this song by the late Patsy Mcevoy R.I.P. had the pleasure of playing with Patsy and had just recorded new Fair Isle Folk C.D. six months before he died, sadly missed by all who knew him.
Thats my brother's band :) and my son does a great version on the tin whistle now :) at 10 yrs ;)... I remember the nights of practise that went on in my mother's sitting room...and the panic bout that ,we'd have to F**k them all out before Dallas :)
Without doubt the best version of this song. How come the media never picked up on this fantastic singer. Maybe he was better off without them. Such true singing with fantastic feeling. And the the lady was from Dingle. Hilda Moriarty I believe daughter of a local doctor and cousin of Senator Joe O Toole.
