  • "If it requires a uniform it's a worthless endeavor"

  • @lockie1976 hahahah, or failure clothing

  • @lockie1976 So... almost everything is a worthless endeavor, then. You do realize that grade school is the only time in your life that you will be able to choose your own clothing, right? Just about any job you can get requires a uniform or some sort of dress code.

  • ok

  • Yep. I sure miss ol Cape May....and 52" MLB's...the Vic and the Intrepid, namely...

  • definately a good and informational video. i want to be in the coast guard after i graduate high school for a number of reasons. what's the hardest aspect? the Physical part? gonna be tough, no doubt

  • @Wolfheart2014 i was talking to my sisters boyfriends father, he was served in the coast guard for 20 years and retired from it. He told me the most difficult part of boot camp is being mentally strong. I might either enlist in the Marine Corp or The Coast Guard. I still haven't decided

  • @4memememeful The worst thing about boot camp was the first few days when nothing made sense. Once we formed into companies, there were strict schedules and real goals and that made it much easier. Plenty to learn, especially about how to work together as a team, no room for "I"'s, just "WE" and "US". Best thing about boot camp: Graduation!

One real important thing about the Coast Guard: everyone counts, everyone is important, you're not just a number, you are part of a team!

  • @MrTherende "Everyone Counts" Who fed you that lie? Wait till you get out in the Real CG. things are much differnt.I guess it mainly depends on your job (Rate). The old saying is true though. "Choose Your Rate , You Choose Your Fate" So choose wisely ! I chose wisely.

  • @20031200 Hey no one fed me a line, Uniform 12-110. I served 4 years active, made E6 (ET1). some days sucked and I worked for some flamers (one E9 in particular who hit the bottle at 10 am), but I also worked for some really great people, even officers;-}. By and large I enjoyed my time and I learned a lot and matured a lot too. You are ABSOLUTELY correct about picking the right rate though. I did see a lot of guys who wasted their lives and ended up being 17 year BM2's

  • @MrTherende what rate did you end up going with? I'm in the enlistment process now...and would love some advice.

  • @wittytoddy I was an Electronics Technician, good ratre for advancement; the 'A' school was decent. Lots of choices for you, Engineeering includes Engineman (EN), Electricians Mate (EM), Damage Control (DC), hands on but unfortuneately slow advancement. Deck rates, Boatswain Mate (BM), Quartermaster (QC) great for running a small boat once you're out not the greatest for a 20 year career. Specialty rates like ET, Radar, sonar, radio (technical stuff), corpman - continued -

  • @MrTherende Office Stuff: Yoeman (YN), Storekeeper (SK).

Aviation: need 20/20 eyesight to even qualify but there is a lot of dupication of ship/land based rates.I have no experience with aviation rates, they were a world unto them selves.

If you are a reservist you are probably going to be limited to Post Security

    Some rates like Sonarman and Radarman are guaranteed shipboard rates so if you dont like the North Atlantic in January, forget them ;-}

  • @MrTherende Got to preface all this by saying I was in a LONG time ago so a lot of things have probably changed: Chester R. Bender was the commondant and we were under the Dept of Transportation then.

  • @Wolfheart2014 anything worth while doing is gonna be tough, mind over matter , if you dont mind it dont matter.....the physical is tough, but the mental is unmatched to anything you have ever experienced! you will be fine. i did it in march of 1998! tango -152 , changed me for life! im a better man for it! good luck !!!!!

  • Its people like you that may someday be thankful for what we do. Learn the hard way. Feel better ?

  • and its not a "piece", its a weapon

  • theres only one type of petty officer in the US, and thats a united states navy petty officer

  • I once had an attitude like yours, just for one moment try to visualize your self in front of a camera and knowing millions of people are watching you. You will then have more respect then you could imagine.

  • I hope the girl they interviewed never is placed in a position of leadership. What a moron.

  • My God... When did Cape May get so soft??? CC's are NOT your damn buddies and they are not your damn motivational coaches! They are there to break Coastie recruits down the same way USMC DI's are there to break Marine recruits down! No wonder rank means nothing anymore and boot non rates and Jr PO's disrespect everyone today! What a disgrace!

  • I agree.Boot Camp has eased up a lot. I was in Victor 4, May 1968 I had BM1 Meadows. Latter Chief Meadows, he was promoted while I was there. He was know as Chaplin Meadows, Not because he was a softy. After boot camp he became a different man. I loved my CG time and think of it often. Enjoy It ,Time fly's by.

  • I really liked these interviews. I had a good idea about boot camp from the 'it's just eight weeks', but this is really what I wanted to see and hear. Thank you very much.
