wwwoooooo!!! even my heart shed some tears for my high school sweet heart, i won;t stop until you're mines, this is one of my slow drag dam our quarter party, and everybody goes home with somebody
house parties, black light and slow dragging--the memories--bring thoe days back again. you say we can't go back? Oh, well--I guess we'll just have to keep listening to these classics! They don't sing them like this anymore!!!
i first heard this when i was 16 doing my homework on the computer looking for music to help me concentrate. love this live version here on youtube as well
@cynthia6637 OOOOOOOO, so SMOOOOOOTH! LOVE IT! I remember someone doing a remake, but just like all other remakes I've heard, the person doing the remake did the song absolutely not justice.
One of my favorite songs by Smokey and the Miracles. I know the mandolins in the background really pull on my memory......between the music and the man one is still out of my reach.
@mmary eye'm from the bronx, so eye remember those parties. nobody acting a fool, and yes, after awhile the lights would dim, and no more fast records. "the dip".
@hippyblood4 Im frm the S.Bronx & the dip was a must @ those parties in the basement! I lv in TX now & they don't HV basements! Thnk God cause I have 3/kids! lol! (1/daughter) whew! but do miss those days i was a little young but had to hang with my older sisters & they took me with them! This song came on sooner or late! but it ALWAYS was played! Tnx for the memories! :)
the folks today call a song like this gay whatever that means but they will never know what true love is because of how they think about what he's saying about love
Yes mmary1103 I remember those days, people take dance lessons now to learn that unison we had back in the day. No rehearsing, it was just instinct...
@MsDancer56 I agree with your comment. I went to several house parties, 62nd & Calumet in the HighRise. So many memories. My sister and her friend Carol loved this song. So happy that FrankeyHoboken share this very beautiful song.
My most appropriations go out to Smokey for being their from the beginning's. Motown was a GOD sent record company and many people that were in front, behind the lights as well as Smokey. Just maybe this is why Mr. Robinson can say (Here I go Again) My all time favorite...
This was the song I heard when my older brother and sisters, talked about people grinding on the dance floor. Yeah that old school slow dancing, was very erotic, back then so I was told. I was too young to experience that.
oh yes, a fine carpe diem ... seize the day! snach the moment! Now, now, now... buy buy buy. Okay, all my cards, all my money is in the pot. I'm gonna gamble on love again. I'm such a fool but I don't care... I'm willing to risk losing EVERYTHING for just the right ONE to END ALL of those that came before... LOL. Okay, maybe I should put a retainer with my divorce lawyer first... how much you think the shark wants this time?
As a child I was truly blessed. The richness of my childhood was in the music I heard in the home.
Between my father and oldest brother, I heard everyone from Brook Benton and Nancy Wilson to Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, as well as every thing in between.
Music, quality music, enriches a child's life. This gentleman was an in house favorite. He has such a lovely voice.
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles...were the pulse of soulful love songs that gave birth to a romantic "Era" of music that has never been duplicated or matched. This was music at its best. I remember in Jr. High hearing Smokey's voice sweetly whispering in high saprano tones, melodies of lyrics that made you helplessly fall in love or want to elope with your boyfriend. Their music has made an indelible imprint in my heart and mind of images dancing my first slow dance with my childhood crush.
baby making music .....music that made you fall in love with whoever you were dancing with lol.......like mmary1103 said songs that made you dip.....What about the socials in the basement with a dark light....35 cents to get in....25 cents for soda and 50 cents for hot dog......
@Sandrarenee100 Yes, yes, yes. We were The Lords of The Golden Lusaka Social Club, and I remember the socials with the Quenns of The Golden Lusaka, and black light parties in the basement. Smokey and The Mircales was always there, as was most of the Motwon groups. What a time in my life. That was a more simpler time, when music was just ,that music. The artist sang about love, and peace. What I would give to go back to those times.
O my God, this is what slow dancin was able, 2 as 1 like mmary1103 wrote. When even if u just met. Ur bodies touch n in unison u both danced like if u knew 1 another from 4ever. Nothing like this these days. Thank god 4 the oldies & the fact that I have so many of them in cds. N listen 2 them all the times.
TY FrankeyHoBoken 4 bin an oldie Lover. OMG 1969 n my 1 n only true love. Melvin T King.
the god father of love music, beside maxell, love this man wow! he's made some of the most beautiful music ive ever heard in my life on this earth, Smokie one and only one that can do it peace

OMG!!!! I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS SONG AND I AM A SMOKEY ROBINSON FANFREAKK!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG NOW... by the way, go to my page and listen to me sing baby baby dont cry by him. im an inspiring singer....let me know...
For someone who is as old as Smokey, almost, it is beautiful to see that you 'kids' appreciae true talent! Take all the time you need to find a single (ANYONE) hip-hop 'artist' who can sing this song, or any other Smokey classic, ok?
if blacks did not come over here the music like this would have never have been not just a few but so many many beautiful music America has given the world with these creative people, that some people have to down or copy after when these people create such genius music, took the world by storm right here in ungrateful America well just some of us can't respect what these people have given the world they turn the world on its heel with so much different musics period.

All OlSkool Women, Remember This! Back then, slow dancing (1 step/2 step) with a beautiful black bother...then the dip. Brothers knew how to slow dance back 'in the day' like never before. Each movement was in complete unison, as if we were one; synchronized as if we had rehearsed, yet we had just met at a hall or party. Total gentlemen. We had so-o-o much fun.
@mmary1103 Oh my sister, you, and lovely women like you, were made the sun shine and made life worth living! I truly feel sorry for the 'hip hop generation' because they will never know the life they missed. When you try to make a 12 year old deal with the emotions of an adult, you're fooling not only her, but yourself as well. the net result, see you on Maury, and you ARE THE FATHER!
@mmary1103 ..."Mary...Sista LoVe"..., I remember those days SOOOO well.We had so much fun ...able to go to house party's anywhere...,ask her for a dance...,take her directly under that red light...w/ hopes that she had a wonnnderful...wonderful night. Thanks...for such memories.
This is ,to me is, the definitive love ballad. The melody, strong lyrics, that all tie into the chorus, makes this the perfect love song, that takes us where we all have been, and will probably go again. Nothing is wasted, and it has always made me wish I had thought of this to write. This is the genius of song writing...

Smokie is the man!!! I loved his music from a young girl. My mom may she (RIP) loved him too. I can remember my dad gettin mad cause we all screamed when one of his songs played..He is a voice that has stood the test of time.. ladytee
I remember back in the days when it was playing on the radio, I went to the record shop one day (still a high schooler I do beleive) and I bought the "album" with the song featured on it.
This was like a bridge between The miracles of the mid-60's and the late 60's groups like the Delfonics, Intruders and Moments that usered in the 70's. These groups were all in the tradition of singing about love.
Its good to hear music with some thought. I don't listen to the radio anymore. There is know artistry. The lyrics we here now are out of the filth can.
I heard this sung by someone else but it was a little faster version. And i liked it better. If anyone has heard this sung by someelse {like a remix} let me know please. Thankx.
Thank you so very much FrankeyHoboken for this post.I'll always remember those times with fond & heartfelt memories. I dedicate this song to my Thomas Johnson Jr. High School sweetheart Roxie Anna Murphy. Thanx again my Brother for these short strolls down "Memory Lane". "Good Music, Great Memories & The Best of Times".
"saw you there and your laughter seemed to fill the air...my heart said to me, don't walk head on into misery, hey with your eyes wide open, CAN'T YOU SEE? the hurts in store just like before" - the dangerous that might exist, disregarding all of this JUST FOR YOU, i'm just at the point of no return, HERE I GO AGAIN...(AAAAHHHH!)
This fabulous Smokey Robinson and the Miracles track was a favorite during the 60's especially when played at the Hollywood Roller Bowl Skating Rink on Sunset Blvd. Point is do you remember? I do. This is truly a classic Motown track that will endure the test of time.
I had the ultimate collection on cassette and it got damaged. I know that I would buy another to replace it but it hurt as if I had lost someone dear and close. I really love his songs and talent.
