Does anyone know the name of an arcade game from the late 80s or early 90s that involved a barbarian (you) riding on the back of a tiger and your only weapon was a ball and chain? The monsters you fought had the face of a bulldog. When you hit them with the ball/chain, they would bleed. Your special attack was to wrap the chain around the enemy's neck and swing around until his head would fall off. Does anyone remember the name of that game?

@1FineYoungCannibal Are you serious? Play them both on your Pc with an Emulator. The Arcade graphics are far superior. Also the Arcade has better audio samples.

@ojideagu Some of the sound effects are better on the arcade yes, and I like the way that the enemies turn to stone when you kill them, but other than that I think The Megadrive version is better; The colours of the backgrounds seem richer on the MD, and the music seems better quality.

@1FineYoungCannibal I agree the Megadrive version has better "contrast" the definition of the sprites. But the arcade one's are bigger. One thing I must say, I always hated that the Megadrive music on level 1 is wrong, it's very good but the final two notes of the melody should ascend up the scale. But they just repeat the first bar. It always bugs me they don't like the arcade! lol

@ojideagu Heh you are like the only person I've heard besides myself who gets ticked from two or three notes wrong in a conversion! BTW I love the sound effects in the arcade (yeah you are also the only person I've heard who "got" the First Blood connections too), and the fact that the soldiers are beating the villagers until you get to em, in the arcade. BTW what did you guys call the jump-down-thrust attack? We always called it the "scoop" hahaha.

Glad you also noticed too hehe It ticks me off lol I hate wrong notes in music conversions. Although a bit of artistic licence is fine, but when it was clearly a mistake it pisses me off lol

Yeh i noticed the villagers missing a well. I guess I would call the thrust attack a "Chop" lol

This is the version you get on PSN. What a shame. The controls aren't as good as the Genesis version.

@xOmniCloudx There is a bit of delay (lag) when you use the controls. When you dash for example. It makes the game harder for the wrong reasons. I didn't know the bigger enemies could throw you, that's pretty cool. This version doesn't have duel mode which is very fun. The sound of the Genesis is better for me. The Genesis version was very funny, like when an enemy dashes into you with a dragon. I didn't enjoy the arcade version. I think I'll buy the Genesis Collection on ps3.

@xOmniCloudx I honestly think the Genesis version had better graphics and music 2. I will admit some of the levels look a little better on the arcade though. I used to play this game a lot in the arcades and on my Genesis and I found the Genesis version 2 also load and play way smoother than the arcade. Now why wasn't Revenge of Death Adder never ported. Golden Axe 2 and 3 were good but RODA was awesome!

@SirSathington Yah it is haha. The arcade version of Golden Axe 1 inexplicably uses some screams from First Blood, specifically the one where Rambo stabs Mitch in the leg, and the ones that Galt lets out as he falls to his death.

It also has digitized voicing from conan the barbarian.

The music on level 1 in the arcade is better because the home version melody is incomplete and it bugs me lol. Hard to explain in words, but the melody on level one is meant to rise up the second time it plays, it doesn't on the genesis/megadrive it just repeats. Anal I know :)

Doesn anyone know if there is a mame for what i guess is an original arcade version? It entirely different characters, there was a centaur lady, some kind of farmer fighter (he had magic that would grow a tree with apples that everyone could eat for life) and a dwarf riding on the shoulders of a big guy (master blaster style) and had an axe, the ending was after beating adder, adder attacks you on the elevator down, and the master jumps of the big guy onto adder with the axe and they both fall
