great job . the first time i watched this i sent you an email to ask where did you find the back track for it . you didnt reply. was listening to it again and realized your playing along with the original, again great job sir
wish i had seen your version before i did mine. would've stole some of you guitar playing. thanks for sharing man. nice job and well done. added this to my favs.
I've loved this song since I was a kid and have played it traditionally for years. Saw this arrangement and was blown away. Now I've been sitting in front of the stooopid computer every night practicing like a mad man to get this arrangement down - my wife thinks I've gone mental. HaHa. Thanks for posting this soloman!!!
round 2: LOL He also gets pissed when people are talking in the crowd when he's playing...it can almost be funny but it gets a little tense sometimes. He calls people out right from the stage!! I took a date one time and had to constantly tell her to shut up because I was afraid he was going to start ripping our table from the stage. Thta's what I mean about frustrated....I think he gets aggravated when people don't get where he's coming from with his music...I get it...my date didn't..it's art
His approach really varies. Once I saw him and he acted like a dick, but the next time he was really warm and friendly and I ended up sticking around we talked for about twenty minutes.
Yes, I' ve met him a couple of times and he's not exactly the friendliest guy in the world...but I think he's probably a little frustrated ... and sick of a lot of stupid questions...I always approach him with kid gloves and he's always cool to me... really can't blame him ...there's a lot of people who should take class A, B, and C before they start asking remedial questions and he's probably just worn out with it.
It's a Johnny A. Signature guitar from Gibson. I happen to own this very guitar but can't play this song nearly as good. 70soloman does a very good job of it. I've seen Johnny A. play several times and he's a master. When he plays this song, he's so dang smooth it isn't funny. Look him up here on youtube.
If any of you have not seen Johnny A live, I highly recommend it! Gibson hasnt endorsed a lot of players over the years. When you watch Johnny play, you will understand the level of playing it takes to be one of the few selected for such an exclusive group of players. He is one of the most technically proficient and dynamic players of our time - a player's player. Go see him play!!!
You nailed the tone, inflection, nuance, everything !! Sorry to ask so many questions, you blew me away with this and have taught the teacher grasshopper, Kudos . I play 12 Eb strat 90% of the time now. Is that a short scale on the Gibson?? It must compensate tension??
Thanks. No. it's a full scale neck like an L5. I guess thats what I love about it...nice wide ebony fingerboard, and the ease of play above the 12th fret - unlike a LP
Did you have the nut filed out by a Tech?? Thanks for the advice. Those are almost close to the SRV guages, roller bridge?? I lost explain?? is it allparts?
I filed the nut just enough to relieve the string binding. SRV used 12's I believe but yes I went to that gage to get a fatter sound on my Fender's and on the Gibson...PHAT! The Roller bridge is allparts similar to the roller saddles on a Kahler.
I got it because I was looking for a hollow body with a vibrato. I looked at Gretch but the sound of a lam top pales. Great tone! This guitar sounds best clean or with a slight bit of overdrive. The one drawback is the vibrato. I had a real problem keeping it in tune but discovered a little paraffin wax applied to the string guides in the nut helps. I also replaced the stock adjustable bridge with a roller bridge. I use a custom guage on all my guitars (11,14,18,32,42,52)
You more than did it justice, you nailed every nook and cranny, amazing. I have been studying your hands for days and there is one thing I cant make out, at 3:04 mark, Its a Cmaj something, help me if you could, other than that you have basiclly taught me the song. I missed Johnny here in VA when he opened for Eric Johnson, Im kickin myself now.
It's the best value of any Gibson model...in my opinion, their best kept secret. It plays better than a Les Paul. It has the Appointments of an L-5 without feedback! I got a smokin deal on mine...under 3K. Worth every penny!!!
very nice playing, good tone, sweet guitar there

Nice job. Where did you learn to play his song? I've seen a tab book of his out there-wondered if that was what you used.

Johnny A. has tab books for both of his CD's. This is a darn good job of playing his music.
