The ref was only following the rule book... another circumstance, and yeah, maybe the red card would have been a little harsh. But the rule book says if you are the last remaining defender and you take out the attacker without making contact with the ball, it is an automatic red. All the keeper had to do was touch the ball and it wouldn't have even been a foul.
