A 489 or a 496 is a stroked out 454 big block. The only difference is the 489 is 30 over and the 496 is 60 over. The 489 bore is 4.280. The 496 is 4.310. They both have a 4.250 stroke.

I have built the as Pro-touring style car but no mater how much money I put in it, it can't turn like the Neon. Spend half the money for suspension for the Neon and it out turns the Elky any day. @curtspray Round tail lights were on the 1970-73 Camaro. A 496 is a bored and stroked 454. You can get a crate motor from GM up to 572 cu in.

@curtspray to help YOU...1970-1973 Camaro had round tail light and were all this body style and all years if they were badged RS had the split front bumper didn't matter what year as for the 302 Camaros, they were 1969 only so there's no way this could 302 camaro unless it is a transplant..1971-1972 Chevelle had round tail lights..I'm 41 and OWNED both at some point in my life

@savagenomore they built the dz 302 in 67 68 69 only, in 67 68 they used a small journal crankshaft and didnt hold up well,in 69 they went to a large journal crankshaft,,,,,,,,,,,,

@hugger97z 1967 used code MO or MP, 1968 used code MI or MO which were the smal journal shafts the DZ code was not used until 1969, 67 & 68 had the 302 but not the DZ model because the DZ was the large journal crank shaft and was 1969 only so if someone claims to have a 67 or 68 "DZ" Camaro they are wrong unless it has been trans planted with a 1969 engine with the DZ code cause they did have any DZ engines until 1969..

@liljimr Say what you want. But just under 400 HP in a car that weighs less than 3000 pounds is a lot of fun. Plus I can sling that Neon around corners that the Elky can not take. I have built the as Pro-touring style car but no mater how much money I put in it, it can't turn like the Neon. Spend half the money for suspension for the Neon and it out turns the Elky any day. The Elky is just plain faster though. And I would rather drivw the Elky. But my Family won't fit in it, needed a four door.

I am lad to see this kind of stuff still happens. The cops in my little town used to do this every Friday and Saturday night until about 7 years ago. That is about the time that those damn ricers started to terrorize the small town I live. The Sheriff said that if they can't wait till the week end then we would stop letting us race. Well guess what happened. Now I have to drive 60 miles to the closest track. And before people hate, I have both a Tuner and Muscle car. 03 Neon and 80 El Camino.
