I know all the CFC fans are gonna hate me for it, but I have to say that Iker Casillas is the best. He makes huge diving saves like Chech makes in this video with frightening regularity, and certainly soars more than chech does. But what really sets him a part is the way he charges out on breakaways, almost always stopping the shooter and often making double or triple saves. Not to say Chech isn't brave, but his injury probably makes him a little less eager to go at someone's feet.

Cech isnt even one of the best 5 keepers. He makes major mistakes in major games. Far too many and has costed Chelsea and Czech Republic dear recently.
Any mistakes he makes are particularly high profile because he plays for a team that's always in the champions league and at the top of the premiership.
However, his general skill is as good as anywayone - and at 26 he's younger than many of his rivals. We can expect another 3-5 years of improvement.
I agree with you that Cech will improve over the next 3-5 years, but remember Casillas is also very young as well and he's already phenomanal. Casillas is the best goalie at this time IMO. but Cech is close behind

Cech isnt even one of the best 5 keepers. He makes major mistakes in major games. Far too many and has costed Chelsea and Czech Republic dear recently.

Any mistakes he makes are particularly high profile because he plays for a team that's always in the champions league and at the top of the premiership.
However, his general skill is as good as anywayone - and at 26 he's younger than many of his rivals. We can expect another 3-5 years of improvement.

I agree with you that Cech will improve over the next 3-5 years, but remember Casillas is also very young as well and he's already phenomanal. Casillas is the best goalie at this time IMO. but Cech is close behind

The 2006 world cup was the result of the amazing job the italian defense made and the best italian player, defender Fabio Cannavaro, not Buffon.
I think Buffon is a good goalkeeper, but calling him phenomenon? His skills are not that great, if you watch his games and highlights you will see that most of his best saves come from low angled shots. Like the Zidane header, everybody thought it was amazing, lol
There are much more skilled goalkeepers than Buffon, with better reflexes and agility.

I remember a far more ridiculous mistake from Buffon in the italian league, one of his teammates gave him a pass back and he tried to stop the ball with his foot, but he miscalculated the ball and the ball went in.
Totally ridiculous. That is a far worst mistake than any other Cech has made. The video is here on youtube and its a compilation of the worst football bloopers.
So try not to talk as if Buffon doesn't make mistakes, cause he's done some pretty dumb ones.

It's impossible to say who's the best goalkeeper in the world. Peter Cech belongs to one of the best, but so do Buffon, Casillas, etc... One day it's Cech who is better than the rest, the other day it's Buffon,... But I'm just a big fan of Peter Cech. I like his style of play. If I would have to make my dreamteam, Cech would be the goalkeeper.

Although I am Turkish I really felt sorry for him tonight. Unfortunately it was a bad bad year for Chech. His injuries, loss of premier and champions leagues and now costly mistake at euro 08. Still the best goalkeeper in the world but probably the unluckiest also.

Your right everyone makes mistakes, but your wrong that Peter Cech is the best. He hasnt been the same since the Stephen Hunt incident. He cost Chelsea there goal against Arsenal this season at the Emirates and he droped an absolute clanger from a shot from Sean Maloney in 4-4 draw.

Again you are talking about mistakes. Mistake doesn't mean "less skilled". You dont know how many mistakes from Casillas, Buffon, Lehmann etc. i've seen, and that doesn't necessarily means they're bad, it means the were not focused in what the were doing.
I would be more worried if Petr was getting goals for having slow reflexes or a short reach, but the guy is absolutely amazing.

I never said he was a bad keeper. I said hes not the best keeper in the world. Hes not even the best keeper in the Premiership. I just notice that people never highlight Cech's mistakes where as when Van Der Sar made a minor error away to Portsmouth everyone mentioned it. Cech's not even the best keeper in the Premiership. Van Der Sar and Brad Friedel are better then him.

Well lets look at the credentials of Van Der Sar and Cech shall we. Van Der Sar is the record Dutch apperance maker and twice European champions playing in 3 finals with Ajax and United. Hes played for United, Ajax and Juventus and has showed Cech up in 2 penalty shootouts against Chelsea this season. Van Der Sar also in the premiership team of the season last year not Cech. I dont know what im talking about tho ;)

Thats a meaningless record. Its was the Chelsea defence aswel not just Cech. Chelsea are set up to stifle teams and strangle the life out of them. United meanwhile play free flowing attacking football so we leave ourself more open then Chelsea. Cech had a couple of good seasons at Chelsea but he was awfull this year! Even as bad as Paul Robinson!

Yeah, without a good defence no one will go out one single game unbeaten, and Chelsea made a great job, but Petr Cech had a major role in getting the record. I remember when his record was in jeopardy when Chelsea conceded a penalty, and Petr save it to keep his clean sheets going, amazing.
Petr Cech at his young age has done more than Van der Sar in his entire career. And he is better than Van der Sar in this, no argue on that.

How has Cech acheived more then Van Der Sar? Cech has played for 2 small clubs, the biggest of which were Chelsea who are the 4th biggest club in London behind Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham. Van Der Sar meanwhile has played for 3 European giants in that famous Ajax side, Juventus and of course the biggest club in the world Manchester United. He has won the champions league twice and has been consistent for over a decade unlike Cech who has fallen to peices this season.

Those awards are a joke. How could Ronaldo not have won world player of the year and not even 2nd last year. No one takes them awards seriously. Cech would swap that award for 2 champions league winners medals in a flash ;)

Yea they are a powerfull side now but there still not great to watch. They just set out to stop the other team from playing rather then playing themselfs. In terms on history and tradition there small. Plus the fact they were led up the steps by Peter Kenyon in Moscow showed that kind of club they are. Peter Kenyon is a wanker!

4 goals conceded against Aston Villa? Letting a weak Shaun Maloney shot through his hands? Conceding 4 again at White Heart Lane! Completely misjugdhing the flight of the ball and missing it for Gallas to score the winning goal for Arsenal and then last night was the cherry on the cake for a truely awfull season for Cech.
