This is the wrong bill at the wrong time. In the current economic crisis, why is our government fixated on measures that will further degrade the situation by expanding the defecit?  The only worse idea than this healthcare bill is cap in trade which will further burden the US economy with opressive taxes and development restriction in a time when we should be going in the opposite direction. We need jobs, not healthcare. The US is in a deep recession and there is no surplus money around. The congress didn't look at what the nation is spending on government programs now and see that they are almost bankrupt. The healthcare bill is taxation without representation since the majority of Americans don't want it. That is why Americans are having the "Tea Parties." It will raise the deficit and cost the American people more for goods purchased from businesses that are taxed higher.

Both the Pelosi and Reid bills completely miss the lofty mark the President set in Sept for health care reform. The legislation currently before Congress was crafted out of political desperation and not the needs and the desires of the American people.

This battle for control of our health care is not over. Congress will soon begin the process of merging the House and Senate bills which will then need to be voted on by each body. There is still time for you to make a difference in this fight.

This paper by a professor at Stanford U addresses how Medicare/Medicaid costs are shifted to the privately insured. It is complicated. It does not cut benefits but caps increases in an effort to stem rising costs of healthcare. It also addresses medicare advantage by requiring increased payments by the pharmaceutical companies. Medicare advantage is privately administered. What it will not do is cut medicare benefits. There are also two other bills out there which may pass so this is not in its final form. What will not happen is a cut in medicare benefits.
