If it was in the key of A maj, there would not be a G major chord. At least in all aspects you would not see a G major in the verse, because the verse for most songs n in the home key, and does not modulate. It could definately be in A minor, because John Mayer loves to use the blues scale, using basically a major 3rd in a minor scale, making the A (i) chord major(I). The A natural minor scale also has the G major chord as it's VII. That is one way it could work out,
Dude, I dig you but this is an insult to the Trio! Drumer's out of time, the base is fuckin' high and the voice sucks!

the song is in A mixolydian. it has the notes of d major with A as the root. A Mixolydian and minor pentatonic licks work over it.

In rock and blues you don't have to follow theory all the time, i dont think John did that on this tune
Bluesyloosy1994 2 years ago
In key of D
ltwheat 3 years ago
D? it's in A major.
paulefty 3 years ago
it's in the key of D because the chords A, G and D major all work. D is the I chord and A and G are the IV and V.
smauro3 3 years ago
it doesn't have to go with so much theory as like Jazz usally do.
plus A is the chord that feels "home"...playing like a D pentatonic scale over this wouldn't sound right
Bluesyloosy1994 2 years ago
It's in A isn't it?
