  • So what is the name of this cartoon so I can watch it? Any body? Any body at all.......

  • So it took a year to make a film that's only 24 minutes long. Now imagine the effort and time needed to make a longer film like Rio or Ice Age; I bet it would take SEVERAL years to do.

  • @AndromedaChao2 It takes about 2 and a half years to make a full length animated film

  • @jeleung your totally right! They do all the work but yet the actors and actresses get the credit!

  • This is what I wanna be when I grow up

  • @ParadiseCityA what do you want to do in animation, You can't be animation. You have to something in animation.

  • Comment removed

  • This looks interesting..

  • amazing work

  • sigh. these cartoonist are so talented. but unlike actress and actors, they don't get credited enough.

  • If u make a 24 hr movie that has taken a year, what happens if everyone hates it like they do buy it or stuff like that

  • Its kinda scary how they do it but how?

  • i like traditional animation more

  • @maidwithluv the funny thing is, with the exception of mocap, both 3d and 2d animation both use keyframe animation.....this video does a horrible job at explaining the 3d animation process.

  • this is really old. south park in done in 6 days in maya (3d animation software)

  • @happymushroom100 um, no, no it is not

  • @acesonfire yes i watched a documentary thingy on south park and it use to take a long time but now its digital and quick. i use maya and its fast

  • @happymushroom100 i understand that, but south park is animated in 2d and maya is a 3d application

    i use it aswell

  • @acesonfire yes your right but in maya they use 3d planes (flat surfaces) and change the textures using the charter rig.

  • @happymushroom100 you are right, i must have misunderstood

  • what program is used for cartoons??

  • @bumtaksi boom toon animate is a good program

  • By the time you finally finish that damn movie you already have started to hate it.

  • @kasadija957

    It's funny, cause it's 100% true, hahaha.

  • can any one tell me a program for 2d animating i would like if it was free but i dont mind spending i money.

  • nvm i dont wanna make one now

  • nvm i dont wanna make one now

  • OMAGAWD just go trial Flash, Create a character, made a bunch of layers for his hands legs and all and then just start animating it with movement,, then when the animation is over, just add background and u're done, i know it sounds easy but it's not!

  • hmm...so what do I do if I want to create an animation by myself in a few hours?..

  • I wonder if this is gonna be a real movie !?

  • omg, there was active shade in those years!

  • Ugh I hate that 3D is takin over -__-

  • crt monitors wtf

  • That dudes incredible.

  • This is so helpful for my art coursework...I'm saved. <3

  • Does anyone know the title of the animation that they

    are making in this episode?

  • For some of you people out there that think this is EXTREMLY hard and think you CAN NOT do such a thing. It's not as hard as it looks rlly, with the right technology helpful team work and LOTS of extra time xD it can be EASIER but it will take a very long time to finish, taking your time makes perfection :D

  • 2:00 never see this program, anyone know the name?

  • @guga2artes Softimage 3D, now it is called Autodesk XSI

  • @codename7000 you do relize that this is old they use motion capture now

  • anyone know the name of the programm at2:00

  • Anyone know what this movie is called or where to see the final product?

  • We need to come up with faster ways to make animations this is just ridiculous. Why are people putting up with this?

  • amazing it tooks years to do it awesome

  • People shouldnt hate on CGI animation cus its not hand drawn, disney is trying hard to bring back this old type of animation, anyways I love any kinds of animation

  • many years work and only 24 min cartoon?? :S

  • People forget a lot of things when they say "this or that animation took x months" that is

    1.experience

    2.money/staff

    3.experience

    4.equipment

    5.experience

yes, experience can make something which would take your average art school passers several years to just a few months maybe even weeks. Let's take your typical anime studio for example. They are so used to what they are doing, they can(with several teams of course) do one episode EACH WEEK. Some anime do it in even very high quality

  • Shot I do that! It takes me at least a day to animate it though.

  • does this apply to anime as well?

  • @StandNaruto Well, it depends on what specific serie/movie are you talking about. Miyazaki's movies are all made only with drawings (old school ftw!). (no idea but it must be about...what? 15 frames for second?). There are some animes wich are done using CGI. But mostly, in what matter the images, i believe the computer is used only in minor things, like colour edition.

  • @dnbMPython 24 fps (Frames per second) :)

  • Voice recording (like dialogues) is pre-production & not post-production, right? its the opposite here...

  • @vjfky yes dialogues is pre, but they also do AVR which is basically dubbing the "Argh, Uffff" like sounds.and that is post production

  • what film is this?! is this best selling

  • tedious -___-

  • Yeah, I used to like animating, only 2D in Flash. Then it got tiresome REAL quick. I just can't produce anything longer than a minute, so I gave AS2 a go. Now I've got AS2 (Should really learn AS3) HTML CSS JavaScript under my belt, learning PHP, and can work on any of those codes for many many hours...

  • 0:55 what's that shadowing marker?

  • "Specially designed software" my ass. Why they can't just say 3D modelling program or audio designing program?

  • @temelizer The software they are using in the video is "Softimage 4", an antique version nowadays!

  • There must be a lot of money in this field.

  • i was gonna make my own anime series.... but it takes 1 year for a 45 minute episode? that sucks. this is my dream to do this!!!

  • @KingdomHearts1207 Well....the ugly truth is that you can't make an anime series on your own. Even top name anime titles are painstakingly drawn by hundreds of artists who are paid to draw the same way--and all work together just to make a single episode or season. this is why cartoons and anime are released as quickly as they are.

  • @unInnocentBystander i know they are made by hundreds, and now i think i gotta go to college first just to know how to do everything! but if i do that, i gotta wait until im 18! but then i was thinking, i could just get a normal job when im older, then i can get lotsa money to hire people to do that, but that'll still take years to make the anime! -_-

  • @KingdomHearts1207 To draw an Anime yourself would take longer then a year son. The only reason anime episodes can be released on timely manners is because their are literally hundreds of artists drawing the same way. Some draw the backgrounds, others the peripherals, and others for the characters and such. It probably takes about 3 weeks to make 1 episode out of like 150 animators when they finally have it all down. Even then I bet that's pushing it.

  • @malicios I know!!! and im a girl!!!!! and i know all that stuff!

  • this is soo painful!!!!!! Coding is still better :D

  • anybody know what the name of this cartoon they're making.

  • @fallenlino Idk but it looks extremely dumb.

  • Comment removed

  • I prefer them to draw frame by frame. but im sure that will soon disappear :(

  • lip syncing is hardly as bad as she makes it seem

  • @mycollegeshirt Why don't they just make a program that changes the mouth on the character accordingly to what sound is made? Then you just perfect it later ^^

  • fucking annoying voice

  • Woah! What is the name of those shadow shading markers! :O

I would want to buy one:P

  • @FXMasterEvolution They are grey markers that come in many brands. The ones I own are called Prismacolour. They come in percentages from 10% to 90%. They also come in cool grey, warm grey and French grey. (Other brands may have different ones.)

  • so that's how they make anime movies and cartoons..... DAMN! The Japanese really had to work hard! Now THAT is what I call hard labour. Because they were making all of this stuff like, every day!

  • @cmbdragon666

This is mostly showing computer animation. Japanese animators do frame by frame traditional animation, which is different and takes a lot more drawing skill rather than program knowledge. Both need to know a lot about movement but for everything done traditionally you can't get a computer to do in-betweens.

  • I wanna know if that animation actually exists XD Where can I find it? 8D

  • BEST JOB.....maybe.

  • lol fuck that job.

  • they should show how to create a (celulose acetate) Cel animation. Its more traditional and more easier than computer generated animation. and more orginial :) but this is cool though info though! thanks

  • Does it still take that long to do that? i mean holy crap how long did it take to make Finding Nemo and the movies we see today

  • @tuna2223 From what I heard. A 3d animated movie takes around 4+ years to finish... just about the same as traditional hand drawn animation. Its really amazing to know the amount of work to made them.

  • @tuna2223 it probably took finding nemo five years to make. They started making toy story 3 in 2004, when the incredibles came out.

  • HUGE TRAFFIC at 1:29

  • One year for a 24 minute film.... That's intense.

  • Damn it took years!!???? I thought it would be a month

  • @iiNaRcOtIkZz Hehe, a month would be like hmmmm... 1 Call Of Duty map :)

  • @iiNaRcOtIkZz it'll onley take a month for a big budget team. but a small group it's alot harder. people come and go or never have time. money is a issue then you have to stop everytime the computer breaks down or you need new updates...it's a pain. I love animation but if I dont have a big team I'm sticking with comic books for now

  • @iiNaRcOtIkZz well it depends how hard you work.and ironically im making a cartoon thats coming out tonight

  • what is the software they use

  • "he draws in pencil" GOOD JOB!

  • does anyone know if you can get the 'wire frame animation' software?

  • @MisyRae364 3ds max is the best, but you can use milkshape also, I use bolth

  • @mystic81006 are they a free download or do you have to buy the disk?

  • @MisyRae364 well, you can download trials for bolth of them, but you will still need to buy them in the end. milkshape is your best bet as its only $30, 3ds max can range from $3000, so It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

  • @mystic81006 very helpful! thank you!

  • @MisyRae364 there is a free 3D animation app called blender, start there. you should also check out demos for Cinema 4D, Maya, and 3DS Max. i use Cinema 4D as well as an app called ZBrush which is used to add finer details to your character models. to get started you should watch some software tutorials either here or at vimeo.com. goot luck!

  • @MisyRae364 look up "Autodesk Maya" although im not sure if thats the one they used in this video, but its what new animators are being taught to use. they learn to model and animate with it.

  • If 24 mins takes a whole year, how long does a 3d movie take if it's an hour and 30mins? Wow!!!! That's crazy!

  • It took 1 year to make a 24 minute film. There's a difference between a one-off film and a weekly aired series. A 3D cartoon show would take a month or so to complete -which would come with low-res graphics. That film you saw there wasn't a series and a lot of work went into it... as you could see in the final product. Extravagant lighting and detailed textures wouldn't be seen in a regular 3D serial, as seen in that film.

  • Haha! I thought they were making ZELDA characters at first!!!

  • I doubt it takes THAT long. Ive enjoyed and done research and ive never heard that it takes 1 whole year to take make a 24 minute show. Really? I know it takes awhile but that doesnt sound right. Maybe back then but now with the new technology i doubt it

  • @kaleighproductions For your kind information, The Academy Award Winning short this year " Logorama " took 6 yrs to complete & its around 20 minutes. so, its not the jst Technology , but Team work , Technical Problems ,Making Process etc also play a very important role in making of a film.

  • i want to be a animator

  • omg i have that pen!! XD

I hope i dont have to make a animation like that XD

  • cool

  • ...wasted effort on their part...

geez, why do networks ALWAYS pull stuff out on crappy animation... for mercy's sake, THE GIRL BARELY HAS A NOSE!!

  • !!!!! Well now we know why final fantasy take so long to come out. Looks like alot of work!

  • so wht show is it they made?

ive wondered that for a while

  • i want to do something like gintama or bleach or to be simple japan anime

  • are the animators in the video using xsi ?? that's a really old version of xsi the wire stucture is not used any more moust of the artist use polygons

  • so the naruto episode u see on ytv now was actually started about a year ago?

  • @smokenfly514 Naruto isn't a 3d animation, anime is essentially a bit more simple than this as they use still frames a lot of the time and just move the mouth around. Since anime series run on a strict schedual of when they air on tv, im guessing your average 21 minute episode takes about a week.

  • No it will take you like 1 year if you dont shut up

  • Are you kidding me? It takes upwards to weeks for an episode. They work on an anime at least a few months to a year before they actually start releasing any episodes.

  • you heard very wrong it can take months to do traditional animation like what you mentioned...

I work at an animation company, we've done 4 mins of animation in a week and a half.. but that wasnt the most fluid animation.. one of the projects we've worked on that required full animation (very fluid) took about 5-6 months to do 24 minutes including all of the voice overs, music and final compositing.

  • OMFG!!!!!!... that awsome!

  • thats how veggietales was made

  • Wow, amazing. I wonder how much they pay you for doing the drawings.

  • they mainly have to go through all these processes which will take months, but when they have the final they can just use the voices and everything else back, just change the background

  • 3ds max ftw

  • If they needed 1 year for a 24 minute film, that of course i don't know its name. Then how Nickelodeon was able to make the jimmy neutron series. I heard it took one month per episode.

  • Jimmy Neutron was made with low resolution models.

That animation looks as if it had many textures and models.

  • which programs are used here

  • What movie was that anyway???

  • Cool!

  • muy interesante, aunque actualmente con toon boom storyboard pro se ahorra varios procesos!!!

  • imagine how long it took to make transformers 2 !

  • ???

  • Omg. In that fact, I must be gay, but I am not. What abouy your crush?

  • *about

  • Just imagine how long it took Shrek!!!

  • one year??? no fucking way...

  • holy crap! 1 friggin year to make 24 minutes??!?

  • cool

  • see my animation

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know what program their using??

  • 3ds max - this program is better than what they use

  • Maya is the best, hands down.

  • As far as I remember, Max is good for modeling, while Maya is better for everything else.

  • Animation is something you gotta love to be able to do it. How long do you think it takes Pixar to make there movies? A good 4-5 years. I'm a 3D Character Modeler in the making getting ready to graduate this May, and from my experience you HAVE to love this stuff. It takes time, patience, and a lot of stress relievers to get through these projects, but they're a huge accomplishment once they're finished.

  • @YinCOH cars took about 3 or 4 years to make. i heard that they drew all of it on paper. not on the computer

  • that's one fast girl.

  • haha! For only 24 minutes, huh? It looks like a ton of fun (and work) though, I've applied for comp. animation at college.

Working on movies must be a pain though.

  • to much work for me!!! this was my dream

  • naah youll get used to it ^^

When you have it done you feel proud:)

  • wow I don't think im going for animation anymore. Thats to much work for one person and only 24 minutes? wow!! I rather not waist my life on that crap.

  • they get paid crazily for wasting their life for this crap..

  • the comment is for the person below.. sorry if i sounded offensive.. just wanted to point out that animators does get a lot of money for their hardwork..

  • Well now they have 3D computer modeling and animation... Much easier...

  • it's not that easier. don't forget that one other dimension has added and in addition to do the 2D animating it needs to make a interesting 3D world which is not easy.

  • im defo not gona be a animater..........

    poor guys

  • its my dream job!!yay omg tho its alot of work >:D sounds like much much fun!!

  • A full Year of WORK!!!!! AND 42,000 Drawings, Just for 20 Minutes of Animation?! I might think twice about getting into animation lol!

  • I love this! this is my dream job

  • @ghostie7790 mine too!!

  • @ghostie7790 :D SO IT MINE!<3

  • To much work.

  • 42 000 drawings!

  • Interesting, but this must be a really small animation studio....

  • i like american animation better than japanese

  • Why is animation in america so different than japanese?

  • So many reasons why, but one of them would be culture.

  • It's not. Both America and Japan do 3D and 2D animation. Perhaps you're thinking of 2D, when here they're talking about 3D. As far as I know, and if Saexon who commented before gave the right description of 2D Japanese animation, they're both the same, here and in Japan.

  • Why is the commentator always saying HE, in the beginning? and not They?

  • omg dont tell me ur 1 of those ppl who go crazy about like buissiness"man" or how ppl are usually refered to as a male not female...those kinda ppl annoy me if they talk about that stuff

  • I want one of those shadowy markers. =o

  • me too

  • @Xikaze Try Pantone or Copic , but theyre hella expensive :(

  • They never put a specialized to do the comentary.....idiots..... specialised software ...... oh my god

  • Wow. Old school Softimage 3D. I remember messing around that software years ago.

  • mama guevos

  • what software did they used?
