@skueecky: It's possible to do some caculus to find out. But this 42 minutes doesn't quite apply to earth because earth isn't of uniform density, and it would be difficult to eliminate all friction and air resistance. You could limit the effects of friction and air resistance, but the variable density of the earth plays an unavoidable role. It only works on a simplified uniform earth. Google "ralph howard a question whose answer is 42" to see a paper with calculations.
