DON FUCKING KING #1 for me.Without a doubt. Tyson's not even the tip of the iceberg among the list of fighters he's destroyed andblood-sucked their hard-earned money from.
How the Hell can DON KING not be one of the big reasons why? Judas,he was one of the reasons all the men that were with Tyson on the way up,were no longer there by the time of the Douglas fight; he conviced Mike to get rid of them all.
if you ask me tyson lost because he was not trainned to be an (all around) fighter what does that mean you may ask? an all around fighter posses all the skills 1. have all the punches 2 have defensive tactics when called for 3 dig down deep and fight toe to toe ferociosly when called for lets examine tyson had all the punches because he knocked douglas down with a uppercut so he was deficient in defense and courage to go 15 rounds
Douglas's mom died right, but if Tyson fought the current champ tomorrow and won....Tyson fans would say his daughter's death (rip) drove him on to victory. If he lost, they'de say the event made him lack luster, and THATS why he lost. Not because he has punched a million times.noooooooo. LOL
geeze why wasnt don king named a reason for tyson's rapid decline? you could tell that slowly mike's skills were diminishing as the 80s ended and he took on a new group of trainers
How unlucky was Tyson putting Buster down so close to the bell. Tyson needs to train properly he never had the skills to win without being trained like a robot. Shows wot a useless manager Don king is having a team like that
Why did it say he has failed to win 8 times in his last 21 fights. That's not true. He lost 5 times and had 2 no contests. The numbers don't add up. Can anyone help me out?
that is certain!! if there was another 15 seconds to fight, tyson would chew douglas up in 8 round. nobody talks about how powerful that uppercut was.
i suppose you know how douglas was feeling after taking an uppercut like that. im not a tyson apologist, in fact i think he was never great, he just had the potential to be great. he was crap against douglas and he deserved to lose but it was a 14 second count, and douglas was knocked out before tyson was. thats my opinion!
We can look at how both fighters reacted to the uppercut. Douglas is sitting there resting and listening to the referee, while Tyson is stumbling around for his mouthpiece.
Opinion has nothing to do with it, because guess what, ten seconds isn't the significant number. In the rules, a ten count is what means you're out. So until referees are fitted with Swiss movements, getting up at 9 in 9 seconds is the same as getting up at 9 in 3 minutes.
no one ever talks about despite tyson not being in his best form that night physically mentally and technically he took a lot of damage from the 6 foot 5 81 inch reach buster douglas and only got knocked out in the 10 round despite taking a beating the whole fight he still had the strength to knock buster down and the referee counted slow but nobody ever talks about the heart it took to do that what this 5 10 heavyweight was able to do against bigger men was unique and makes him the best simple
That was different. First of all, Lewis had already been beaten, and didn't have the aura of invincibility Tyson had. Second, everyone knew Lewis was ill-prepared for the fight, whereas Tyson was in the same shape as usual. Finally, Buster Douglas was a quick payday in the middle of the upcoming Tyson-Holyfield match, while Rahman was seen as a real fight.
Good insight. Buster fought a great fight and basically had his way w/ Tyson for 10 rounds, but Tyson demonstrated heart in fighting back. Overall, a great fight.
man i fucking hate humans sometimes they used to suck tysons balls then they get on a show like this and diss him say he was overrated and bs like that fuck all you weak bitches tysons at his best is the greatest heavyweight of all time
Tyson lost to every great fighter he ever faced and stuggled against most silled big men.
Example, In his prime '86-87 he went the distance 4 times with bigger taller fighters with longer reaches, Mitch Green, James Smith, James Tillis and Tony Tucker.
Even Against Holmes who had been retired for 3years and was washed up with no legs surrvived Mike's early barrages but his age and lack of recent ring time caught up with him.
All of Tyson's highlights are against no names or old men.
whatever man i bet tyson opponents would give ali and his opponents problems tyson still knocked out a larry holmes that was able to later on beat ray mercer and go the distance with holyfield regardless what u and other tyson haters think mike tyson is the most spectacular exciting most skilled heavyweight champion that every lived i wish he grew up in an earlier era he would have been greater cuz its alot more distractions in the world then it was in ali time or joe louis time
As far as the "long count goes." The ref was on top of the Douglas fall immediately. He might have been 1 second off. Anyhow, Douglas stood, confidently at 9 and clear headed. He whipped Tyson's ass from the first Bell till the last, admit it, admire it, accept it. Douglas was the best man that night. Tyson was never the same. The best he could do was bite off ears when he was getting his ass handed to him. So, that is the story of your hero. He was great at 19-24 fighting tomato cans. Then k'od.
whos your hero, lennox lewis? he got embarassed worse than tyson did against rahman but was able to rematch and knock him out. the same thing wouldve happened here except there wasnt a rematch. bumass
yeah and for all you "long count lubs" look how quick the ref is down and couting. He didn't even note if Douglas was in a neutral corner. Whine, whine, whine, would you like some cheese with it? Your boy got his ass kicked. Tyson loses, admit, admire it, accept it. That is the way it was and is. Douglas was the better man that night. He was the shit and Tyson was a sitting duck. It was all over that night. Sorry Tyson fans....keep-living in your fantasy world.
@baleheads Pff; excuses Buster Douglas mother died a few weeks earlier. Think that's a LOT worse. Tyson was making money like no other athlete in history and all the pussy that comes with it. Man, fuck that bitch, pay her off and move on. When your a champion you have to deal with that shit like a man, not like a drama queen.
do you have more of these top 5 reasons you cant blame episodes?

How is reason #2 not a form of "Blaming Mike Tyson?" Overconfidence seems like a valid thing to blame him for (Not that that doesn't make sense).
PS: Reason #1 is ALWAYS "The Other Guy was Better." Yawn.

Douglas was saved by the bell.
If Tyson could directly continue after the KO, it would be another story.

The Tyson apologists keep holding on to this, but they forget that the ref counted just the same for Tyson.
And Douglas was listening to the count. If the ref counted faster, he would've gotten up sooner.
