  • Where have I been all these years?!

  • Lawrence Tibbett was my 3rd cousin. I never met him though.

  • I got this song in my head this evening and have been playing every possible rendition I can find, even The Cramps punk band LOL. Good job as always Raymond.

  • @GrannyTenderstone Thanks for watching. It's a catchy song.

  • According to the World Book encyclopedia Clement Wood wrote the lyrics to Short'nin' Bread.

  • @stevesedberry Yes, you are right. Jacques Wolfe set it to music. Thanks for the information. I've added it to the information panel above.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. We had cornbread with dinner tonight. My dad started talking about a "Cornbread" song. I googled "cornbread songs" and even tried it here on YouTube. The more I hummed the tune in my head the more I realized it was "shortening bread" I should look up. Well, after almost 3 hours of looking, I finally found the song for my dad. I was going nuts looking for this song. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I showed this to my dad and we enjoyed your video. :)

  • @angelbunz Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

  • Man you get into it

    Awesome tune

    awesome dancing

  • @thehuntercreed I hope you danced to it too!

  • @raymondcrooke I didnt, but I did about 4 hours of cleaning up and had this stuck in my head for the whole time, so great!

  • I used to run around the house singing this song as a little kid due to the Disney cartoon about the opera singing whale

  • @Sklavier I must have missed that one!

  • @cody1800212 Thanks for subscribing.

  • Ha! Love it. We sang this in fourth grade...1950's. It was the classes favorite song.

  • Great job! This is one of my favorite kids songs and my 18 mo. old loves watching your video. She dances to it:)

  • I'm pleased to hear she has good taste in music!

  • @sbosket

i stumbled upon this video several months ago and my 9 month old son watches every morning! you should see his little face light up!

  • Im gonna have this song stuck in my head all day in school......THANK YOU! :D

  • Well, I hope you can still concentrate on your lessons!

  • Ever hear this version?... Who says mamas little baby loves shortnin', shortnin' bread? Who says mamas little baby loves shortnin' bread? That's some lie some American white man said. Mamas little baby don't like no shortnin' bread. Mamas little baby likes truffles, mamas little baby likes caviar, mamas little baby likes all the fine things in life. Mamas little baby likes African gold mines yeah African gold mines, mamas little baby likes African diamond mines!

  • No. Where did that one come from?

  • Charles Mingus 'Cumbia & Jazz Fusion'1978

  • @raymondcrooke look for "Charles Mingus - Shortnin' Bread" here on the tube

  • That's a cute song... i guess i should buy that kind of bread... must be good if someone wrote a song about it. :)

  • I don't think you buy it. You're supposed to make it!

  • Thank you for that great song!!

  • You're welcome.

  • That was awesome. Great job!

  • Thank you.

  • Hilarious at 0:57 when you kinda lunge at the camera.

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • great song buddy. sounds great, i would like to hear more irish traditionel covers from you. you are great man. thanks for showing,. love it. you are the godfather of traditionel songs man. great. 50000 stars, cheers CHris

  • Thanks. Any particular Irish songs you would like me to do?

  • Raymond...NOBODY could watch that and remain in a grouchy mood. Your performances are cheerful!!

  • Well some of them are. I like the miserable songs too! Thanks for watching.

  • If I went to the city near here and started singing that , theyd run me out of town, the politacal corect thing yu know. lol black people think it has ratial undertones that go back to southern slavery. Most whites just don't think about it much though. LOL

  • That's a pity. It was sung by some great black performers, such as Fats Waller and Paul Robeson. Political correctness would do away with a lot of wonderful folk songs if we let it.

  • yea silly ain't it?

  • sounds great Raymond, sorry you are having technical problems. keep in mind the next time youtube makes a change your old vids my start playing again. lol. good luck.

  • I suspect that once this happens to the videos they will never go back to the way they were. I'm pretty sure this kind of "decay" can't be reversed. But I'll leave them up for some time just in case!

  • Hello

    Raymond...

One of my all-time favorite traditional ditties...so it was indeed a most welcome and pleasing return viewing.

Performed with great enthusiasm and energy, you've certainly offered up this chestnut in the very best light.

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • Thanks Max, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Looks like I'm going to have to do a lot of reposts due to these technical problems I'm having.
