It seems to me the half life 2 machinima scene has really evolved of late. The cinematography in films like this one is truly professional, with all the tricks and techniques you see in big budget movies. Stories are evolving, people are trying new things, new accents. It's a great era for machinima.

I have to say you're right, but i do think that the intro to a serious series doesn't need any action yet, because we barely know what it is about. It could be a series with the characters plain talking, or a journey of some sort, or a spy series. Whatever though. I like actiony films too, and i just wanted to try and defend a machinima series that might be good outside of my usual liking. Whatever.

Actually, the main goal of the Half Life franchise is to innovate and expand the storytelling capabilities of first person games. This includes actors, drama, faceposing, empathy, and such things like that. Drama is perfectly possible in Half Life but not in a shooting focused game like Halo. This video is not a good example of Half Life drama. Vae Victis is a good example and though it does have shooting, it's also a good example of personality, character and drama using Half Life 2.

Ok, you did say you skimmed it to see if it had gunshots, so obviously you wanted to see shooting, or a fight scene of some kind. I like some drama, not only action.
