It ISN'T the first time, Mario has a power up. He actually had it in one game but hardly anyone knows about it which is a shame cause it's awesome.

The GBA version of Super Mario Bros 3 has the option to play levels from e-cards (most of them are Japan only, but I found a complete save file on youtube) and there are I think 33 e-levels. They had crazy stuff, like the Boomerang (you could steal from Boomerang Bros) or well, everything else Mario ever used

Just something I read but you might be interested in it, apparently if you get something like 1,100 1-Ups you can play as Mario/Luigi without the hat, and you can also play as Mini Mario/Luigi with the hat. Nothing game breaking, just something to look forward to if you don't lose your 1-Ups often. =D

i am loving this walkthrough it really helps alot, you should make a walkthrough of sonic generations 3ds, ive cleared the xbox one, 100% with all missions cleared and red rings, and hard mode, and all S's, this looks like a new challenge to me :)
