  • Good thing they tore it down! I mean look at those seats; they're right on top of the field. With a noisy crowd so close, how is a visiting batter supposed to concentrate? It just wouldn't be fair. And also look at the upper deck, why would common people be allowed to sit so close? It's better to move the everyday seats and common people out and back so that the more important purchasers of corporate luxury boxes may have the best views. What good is a ballpark in a neighborhood? =P

  • Oh God, my heart literally dropped when I saw the disrepair of the old stadium. The peeling paint represents just such a sad demise to a place that meant so much at one point in time. I know all buildings and stadiums fall to the ravages of time but that stadium saw so many wonderful sporting and social moments that . . . well, it hurts.

  • Boy did I drink a lot of Baileys Irish Creme on cold opening days in Tiger Stadium. Good memories of days gone by

  • They did do a nice job with Comerica Park...but Tiger Stadium will always have my heart. Another piece of my childhood memories that are just that...memories.

  • I always got a chilling feeling when we would drive down I75 and I seen the stadium. It's a feeling I don't get with Comerica. Its that excitement in the pit of your stomach where as I feel the new park is a Carnival.

It's sad to see the old girl looking like that.

  • It's quite sad - the mystique of Tiger Stadium is far beyond that of Fenway Park. A working man's town for ions. A city established in 1701. This demolition adds to the ebb of Detroit. This should be baseball's Hall of Fame. Tiger Stadium was witness to the BEST hitting (per batting average) teams

in baseball history via the Tigers. Sure it got its name in the early 60's but there is just so much that goes with this stadium without saying. I'm glad to see others are in disgust about this.

  • Its amazing that the 3rd oldest stadium is now Dodger stadium built in 1962. Fenway and Wrigley wont be around much longer. But LONG LIVE NAVIN!!!!

  • they'll still be around

  • how the hell did u get in there

  • By picking up Tiger Stadium Memorabilia Auction stuff at the Stadium. A lady let me and my son go the field and take one last look.

  • That must of been awesome!!!

  • You are the luckiest man alive !!! I would be in tears to stand on that spot.

  • This is one of the dumbest moves on Detroits part, destroying history in the making

Why not destroy half of the houses that are empty and trashed to make shopping malls instead of tiger stadium

What idiot makes these stupid decisions

  • @Brado777 the bureaucrats do, as long as they can get money for it, they are in it for the long haul, they don't care who it hurts, that's what it has come down to these days, bureaucracy and money, as I said before, they don't give a darn as to who it hurts or what effect it has on others lives as long as there is money to be made.

  • Very sad that it's now getting torn down as as a cubs fan I am lucky we still have our old park, but it won't be around forever either. It's sad that there are not too many of these old parks left.

  • Truly unique park for the offense loving fan. All those balls slammed into the upper deck, or Cecil onto the roof, Reggie into the transformer.

Detroit has killed one of its own.

  • The could have renovated it, but greed got in the way of history. Now we're stuck with a gaudy modern ballpark...

  • This is the true meaning of motorcity breakdown here's a building that has a history written all over it and now all they wanna do is knock it down and make a shopping mall out of it frist the big three move to let the nips build the cars and now this a mall were baby clothes can be sold for welfare checks and shoes for drug dealers. Throw ty cobb and the history out the window What did this city ever come too!!!

  • It's a wreck now. Just knock it down to put it out of its misery.

  • Although I am life-long Boston Red Sox fan, Tiger Stadium was always one of my favorite ballparks. It's a shame to see this grand old park in such disrepair.

  • I believe Tiger Stadium and Fenway opened the same year. I hope this shows you how fortunate you are to still have your park. Take advantage of it while its still standing, because one day it will be gone and you'll be wishing you could step foot into it just one more time! Hopefully I'll get to see Fenway someday soon....

  • i think fenway should remodel and add more seats if possible

  • That just Sad I want there when I was a kid with my dad all the time. It just sad how she is like it now I wish I can go in there for a last time :(

  • I wish I never clicked on this video... to see her in such rough shape.

Please forgive me if I start to cry...

  • I used to love going there with my dad. There wasnt really a bad seat. Some of the greatest players ever to play once stood there. Not just Tigers greats but some of the best players of every major league team. The Gov of Mich, Mayor of Detroit are both too ignorant to realize it's significance to Deroit, Michigan and the rest of baseball fans throughout the nation, as their small thinking would rather have it torn down and made a parking lot as opposed to a national and historic museum, sad.

  • Thanks for the visit- sad and I am sure a bit erie.

Too bad you didnt have a bat and ball and try to pull one into the upper deck in right!

    That would be priceless.

A great stadium and I hope somehow Detroit keeps it...too bad Tigers dont play a few there.

  • Is there an update on whether or not they are trying to save this one time baseball palace or is the City Of Detroit letting this grand structure rot and tear it down?

  • The city of Detroit are still looking at what to do with the place. They said they would know some time this year.(2008)

  • that is sad. how did you get in?

  • By picking up Tiger Stadium Memorabilia Auction stuff at the Stadium. A lady let me and my son go the field and take one last look.

  • that is really cool, i would love to do that.

  • They really need to do something to this stadium to keep it a part of history and not tearing it down.
