I am not condoning any action here, however I can see the point on both sides. The guy in the truck is obviously more than a little irritated at some people using this road like it is their personal race track, however these 2 were not, they did not reduce the speed to the recommended one, however they were not endangering anyone. These may not be the bikes he is angry about, but they were a convenient target.
The other thing that makes me wonder exacly what the posted speed is, is that both vehicles that this rider meets are travelling under 40mph. If the posted speed was 55 as stated, then why are they both going at least 15mph under? Just wondering.

While I believe the driver of the truck was definitely in the wrong, and the bikers were right to not get confrontational with him, I question the legal speed the poster states for this road and that they were "safely" evading the truck. I admit that some of the "recommended" speeds posted under certain road signd can be a little rediculous, at 8:38 of this video there is a curvy road/s-bends ahead sign and under it the suggested speed of 35mph. The speed indicated stays around 55-60mph.
If someone chased me down on my bike for something as petty as passing them in a no passing zone then got out with a crow bar to confront me... lets just say a lot of bikers I know carry for reasons like this. People need to calm their road rage, it's going to get someone killed some day when the other person feels like they didn't do anything wrong and their life is threatened. There are better and calmer ways to deal with issues then to chase someone down.

The first pass @6:25 is a long straight of road, easy to pass and you can see far that no one is coming on the other lane. @9:54 pass isn't really a "blind hill", camera is clearly placed lower than riders head, rider sees road easily..

It also looks like I'm going faster because the camera I use is the ContourHD with a 135* lens. The lens angle makes things look like they are going faster and closer than they really are. The GoPro does the same but it has a larger angle which distorts it even more.
I get the telemetry from using the "Trackmaster" app on my phone. I use an external 5hz GPS receiver for more resolution. I also developed an Excel file that transforms the raw data into a plotable graph. Then I use a program that takes the data and animates it. That app now can do this on its own but I still prefer my method. I have a write up on it that I can message you a link to if you want to know more. Awhile back the app developer actually put a vid of move on his s which was cool.

From what I read, he plead guilty to 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment (1-5 year sentence per charge). 1 count of menacing (up to 90 days) and 1 count of reckless driving (fine). He has been in custody since his arrest in June.

No doubt what the pickup driver did was wrong, but why do you state the speed limit is 55 when there are clearly 30 MPH signs everywhere? You exceed the speed limit by 25+ on most of these corners which is a mandatory court appearance in most states. I have a 350Z and can't claim that I obey the speed limit 100% of the time but I would NEVER pass on a double yellow, just plain dangerous to yourself and others. If you continue to do this someone will get hurt, hopefully you don't kill any kids.
@shtyp3 Those 30mph signs in the turns are not speed limit signs. They are suggested speed signs for that particular curve. Just because it's suggested does not mean that you are required to go that speed. A motorcycle can safely go faster through those turns (as could a car with a suspension setup). The speed limit on that entire road (including the curves) is 55. So no, I was not exceeding the limit by 25+ in the curves.

@shtyp3 You can't try and compare your Z to any modern day superbike. Unless you put a LOT of money into it, the bike will win every time. Passing on a double yellow is safe on a bike if you've got the skill. It might not be smart, but it's safe on a straight. As far as bikes being a danger to people in vehicles, that's almost never the case. The rider ends up dead and the people in the vehicle walk away. We take the risk as riders. Cars just need to get out of the way.
@BlikeNave From what I heard he recently plead not guilty to charges that would have resulted in several years in jail. His trial has been scheduled for I think November some time. I'll post any results I hear about when the time comes.

Rider instigated the event by passing on a double yellow. The truck driver blew it way out of proportion but please, to the rider, you should know better. You aren't the victim here, you were reckless. That doesn't excuse the actions of the truck driver in any way, but use a bit more common sense before you end up getting killed.
The bikers may not have needed to go faster, but the pickup would have had to drastically increase it's speed just to keep up with the bikes. Not to mention hitting those kinds of curves at 55 mph in a pickup with an ATV in the back is incredibly reckless.

@danmu There are 2 ways to do this while using the Trackmaster App on your Android phone. 1.) The app has been updated to automatically export the data now in the correct formatted needed. 2.) Here is a link to a How-To write up I created. It uses an Excel file that I created from scratch and takes you step by step through the process. Both ways will accomplish what you want:
Huh? I don't get it. what is this suppose to show? I didn't see any speed limit signs, there was one yellow warning sign that said 30 MPH where you are doing 60 MPH (8:01) you slowed down for the truck but still passed on a double yellow. the side window footage is out of sync long after you pass the truck. The side window footage shows a whole bunch of vehicles parked on the side of the road where you have none so assuming the original was on a wknd with people all over, etc
@dumpfile The speed limit is 55mph. Don't know about all states, but some states certain circumstances allow you to pass if there is a double yellow. Each time either of the windows encounter another vehicle the footage gets out of sync. That's why I sped up or slowed the main video according to resync to the small frame. The original playback speed always stayed at 100%. The purpose of this was to show people that the biker wasn't acting like the road was a racetrack...proven via GPS comparison

A few weeks ago a guy tried to squirt past me on a hog in the break down lane, then a week later a guy on a Bimmer was acting like an idiot trying to race. While I believe the driver of the truck was definitely in the wrong, and the bikers were right to not get confrontational with him, I question the legal speed the poster states for this road and that they were "safely" evading the truck. I admit that some of the "recommended" speeds posted under certain road signd can be a little rediculous, at 8:38 of this video there is a curvy road/s-bends ahead sign and under it the suggested speed of 35mph. The speed indicated stays around 55-60mph.

If someone chased me down on my bike for something as petty as passing them in a no passing zone then got out with a crow bar to confront me... lets just say a lot of bikers I know carry for reasons like this. People need to calm their road rage, it's going to get someone killed some day when the other person feels like they didn't do anything wrong and their life is threatened. It also looks like I'm going faster because the camera I use is the ContourHD with a 135* lens. The lens angle makes things look like they are going faster and closer than they really are. The GoPro does the same but it has a larger angle which distorts it even more.

I get the telemetry from using the "Trackmaster" app on my phone. I use an external 5hz GPS receiver for more resolution. I also developed an Excel file that transforms the raw data into a plotable graph. Then I use a program that takes the data and animates it. That app now can do this on its own but I still prefer my method. I have a write up on it that I can message you a link to if you want to know more. Awhile back the app developer actually put a vid of move on his s which was cool.

From what I read, he plead guilty to 2 counts of Wanton Endangerment (1-5 year sentence per charge). 1 count of menacing (up to 90 days) and 1 count of reckless driving (fine). He has been in custody since his arrest in June.
His sentencing is scheduled for 12/15/2011.

No doubt what the pickup driver did was wrong, but why do you state the speed limit is 55 when there are clearly 30 MPH signs everywhere? You exceed the speed limit by 25+ on most of these corners which is a mandatory court appearance in most states. I have a 350Z and can't claim that I obey the speed limit 100% of the time but I would NEVER pass on a double yellow, just plain dangerous to yourself and others. If you continue to do this someone will get hurt, hopefully you don't kill any kids.

@shtyp3 Those 30mph signs in the turns are not speed limit signs. They are suggested speed signs for that particular curve. Just because it's suggested does not mean that you are required to go that speed. A motorcycle can safely go faster through those turns (as could a car with a suspension setup). The speed limit on that entire road (including the curves) is 55. So no, I was not exceeding the limit by 25+ in the curves.

Passing on a double yellow is safe on a bike if you've got the skill. It might not be smart, but it's safe on a straight. As far as bikes being a danger to people in vehicles, that's almost never the case. The rider ends up dead and the people in the vehicle walk away. We take the risk as riders. We have to be more "aware" of our surroundings than you do, because we are smaller and harder to see. There are maniacs on 4 wheels, maniacs on 2 wheels, and maniacs on 18 wheels. I don't think everyone is going to end up dead that rides, and I wear my gear to protect me... I'm very well aware that its not going to protect me from everything, but at least its something... The camera is a great thing so your not blamed, since its always seems that the riders fault no matter what!!

Rider instigated the event by passing on a double yellow. The truck driver blew it way out of proportion but please, to the rider, you should know better. You aren't the victim here, you were reckless. That doesn't excuse the actions of the truck driver in any way, but use a bit more common sense before you end up getting killed.

The bikers may not have needed to go faster, but the pickup would have had to drastically increase it's speed just to keep up with the bikes. Not to mention hitting those kinds of curves at 55 mph in a pickup with an ATV in the back is incredibly reckless.

Guys, as I mentioned on other posts related to this incident, far from me to defend driver's attitude and/or his outright criminal acts, but one cane see from this video why residents of that community would hate the speeding tourists.
The sound of a motorcycle doing 55-60 in the third gear passing your home could be not only very, very bothersome but outright intimidating.
I guarantee that on that particular road happen few crashes due to speeding/racing cars or motorcycles.

The pick up drivers name is Gary Hudson, he was or is in the military too and is now in custody and facing wanton endangerment in the first degree and other charges. In face of his family, friends, military, etc he is a disgrace and bet he feels like a total douchbag lol!

@danmu There are 2 ways to do this while using the Trackmaster App on your Android phone. 1.) The app has been updated to automatically export the data now in the correct formatted needed. 2.) Here is a link to a How-To write up I created. It uses an Excel file that I created from scratch and takes you step by step through the process. Both ways will accomplish what you want:

Huh? I don't get it. what is this suppose to show? I didn't see any speed limit signs, there was one yellow warning sign that said 30 MPH where you are doing 60 MPH (8:01) you slowed down for the truck but still passed on a double yellow. the side window footage is out of sync long after you pass the truck. The side window footage shows a whole bunch of vehicles parked on the side of the road where you have none so assuming the original was on a wknd with people all over, etc

@dumpfile The speed limit is 55mph. Don't know about all states, but some states certain circumstances allow you to pass if there is a double yellow. Each time either of the windows encounter another vehicle the footage gets out of sync. That's why I sped up or slowed the main video according to resync to the small frame. The original playback speed always stayed at 100%. The purpose of this was to show people that the biker wasn't acting like the road was a racetrack...proven via GPS comparison

@Dunc BS. Passing on a solid yellow is illegal in KY and to boot the bikers were hot dogging it. I see it all the time. A few weeks ago a guy tried to squirt past me on a hog in the break down lane, then a week later a guy on a Bimmer was acting like an idiot trying to race. There are a lot of responsible riders out there, but for you tool bags who act like morons on the streets, please realize you are giving the good riders a bad name. If you want to race, take it to the track.

@dumpfile Also, the small frame was recorded during one weekend. The main video was shot the following weekend. I think the original video was on a Saturday and the main video was recorded the following Saturday.
