Since our legal system is based on the English Common Law, mastery of that language is critical to be a good attorney. I just need to address some questions that might arise from non-Malaysians . 1) People in Malaysia are not dumb, just that we have a government that does not reward merit but rather they reward people of a certain race (Malays). What I do rmbr though, is how impressed I was by his command of the English language. I think lawyers/judges like him were the norm rather than the exception back then...sadly, the situation is reversed now. Sometime what is so obvious is not known until its spelt out eg. if this doctor had not testified outside her home country, then her testimony has never been accepted as an expert evidence outside her home country.
