About how much salt would you add to those drumsticks? I always over-salt things and I don't want to ruin thanksgiving dinner :( Also I don't have a pot with a lid, can I just cover them with a piece of aluminum foil? thanks!
@schweetheartmonkee For two average-sized turkey legs, I would use about 3/4 teaspoon salt and rub it in all over the outside. Yes, you may cover this with aluminum foil while it bakes.
You are always looking awesome and gracious. Could I please have the link to your slow cooker turkey (hoping they're turkey pieces as well)? Very nicely done video. All your videos are. Thank you for sharing.
@nemoryer Thanks for your lovely comment. Here is the link to my crock pot turkey. It is a turkey breast, but you may use the recipe for any parts of the turkey:
@bettyskitchen YAH! It was fabulous! I used whole legs(thighs)+an onion. I should've stick to 350°, but I deceide to make it 325 for 1H or so then 375° for 25 min yet it didn't get the nice brown colour. The onion produces more water?
I don't have a roasting pan,so iused my big steel pan + glass lid but it leaves less space on top of the meat.Tasted great anyway.
Next time taking the lid off for the last 10-15min or so would be good, wouldn't it? Perhaps, browning the legs 1st thing would do.
@philacoudre Yes, I think you might want to take the lid off toward the end of cooking, so that you will have a nice, brown top. Thanks for your lovely comment!
Thanks for the great video. I just bought some turkey legs from store and I was wondering how they should look once they are done and how long to cook them. YOur video was very helpful. Nice job. By the way my turkey legs were delicioussss:-)
I have never cooked turkey legs for less than 2 hours. How did it cook so fast in 1 hour? Online recipe I found called for 1 hour covered, then take out the cover and bake for another hour.
@nemoryer I used the instructions on the package, and they were completely done. When I am cooking chicken or turkey that I purchase packaged like this, I have found that it is best to just follow the instructions on the package, because they have been tested thoroughly.
I was wondering why you didn't add any other seasoning like onions, garlic, pepper, green pepper etc. It would definitely add a whole lot more flavor than just salt? Ids there a reason you didn't add other ingredients?
@SABBYRINA12345 i bet it's a homemade soda though... it's easy: half&half of sparkling water + juice (any fresh pressed / not from concentrate would do)
Betty - the turkey legs look wonderful - my favorite part of the turkey. Happy Memorial Day to you and Rick... When's your next vacation? Love the recipes... Kathie from Ruby Princess
@misskthie Hi Kathie! Happy Memorial Day to you and yours! I haven't planned my next vacation yet--I'm thinking about Alaska! I'm glad you are enjoying my recipes--they probably seem very Southern to you! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Anita Bryant ( I know many under 30 do not even know who she is ) she once said orange juice is not just for breakfast any more. I say Betty turkey is not just for thank giving! great recipe! thank you! I love them grilled too!!
guess I had to leave a comment before it would play... sheeshh... anyways another great video! I was watching the video and thinking, I wonder if that would be enough turkey meat for 1 or 2 turkey pot pies???... I just love home made pot pies since watching your video and making my own! Nice looking healthy meal, as always loving your video's thanks for sharing!
odd, youtube says 0:00/0:00 and it is just a black screen for me... guess I will try back later on for this one when Youtube decides to behave! It says 940 people have viewed it so it must be me... I tried several times...
It's working for me now--must be some YT glitch! I thought of you when I made these turkey legs; I know that some venders at fairs grill them, wrapped in bacon!
wrapped in bacon? Oh my! I haven't even seen a turkey leg at the fair not to mention in bacon! I need to get down south and see some good food with my own eyes!
I guess the bacon and turkey cook at about the same time? Do they use tooth pics to hold it on or does it just stay there by itself? I was gonna BBQ this weekend... I have lots of bacon... Oh I am even going to town soon so I can pick up some legs!
@kyh7501 My recipes are a mixture of the foods I grew up with, plus many recipes that I have created over the years, and some that people have given to me. I also have recipes of my version of some famous foods--like the Hot Brown Sandwich from the Brown Hotel in Louisvile, KY (where they gave me the recipe), and some recipes that I replicate on my own--like Chocolate Cobbler from Murray's Restaurant in Lexington, KY.
@kyh7501 It's just a hobby; I've cooked for the family since I was 12, and I started collecting and creating recipes back then. So, I have about 50 years of experience in cooking! My career of teaching math at the university did not allow me to do as much as I would have liked with my hobby, but I retired 5 years ago, and now I have the time to demonstrate my recipes on YouTube!
I greatly understand the appeal of small-town life.
Somtimes we like to go vaction at a tiny little island town off of the coast of Florida, with a population of about 1,000.
There are no chain stores, no tail-gaters, no idiots texing while they're driving, very little litter, you can buy lobster straight from the person who caught it, and you can actually see STARS at night!
Another great budget minded recipe, Betty! Very excited to see this, and often you find a single turkey leg, so this is a great idea for cooking for 1. Loved it!
I'm so making this for the weekend. Nice weather, the green beans and the roasted chicken outside on my balcony while i have a perfect view of the setting sun. Some good wine. Oh yeah! LOL
I must try this again...I used to make turkey legs all the time because it was an economical meal but then I reached a certain level of affluence and forgot about them. It's a shame because it was such a delicious meal and I totally have forgotten how good it was.
