It was grotesquely inappropriate for you to film these people during a service. You have absolutely zero decency as a person. These folks risk being martyrs to their faith by showing up. How would you feel if some Catholics schlepped into a service of you faith. If you have a faith, if any of these people were harmed as a result of this film, their blood will be on your hands.
It looks like they were so confused at your presence, ivan, that they forgot to do the sign of the cross, or even genuflect to the tabernacle before leaving their pews. Where are the robes for the priest? Why was there no procession? Seriously, this does not resemble a mass in the least sense, except there happens to be a picture of the Virgin Mary up there, and something resembling an altar. I've traveled to several different countries in the world, and the mass is the same everywhere.
God loves you. Jesus died for your sins. He was buried and rose again so that you can have eternal life in heaven just by simply believing in Jesus. John 6:47. He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
i dont dwell on religious matters anymore since i was 12. I realized it leads to nowhere, i was always a bit precocious. The way to survive in this world. See what
@bigfoot799I dont see how thats possible, did Jesus have his apostles put non-believers in concentration camps, did Jesus raise an army to oppose those whom wanted to have him crucified?, did Jesus indulge in luxuries while everyone else suffered? no no and no
The pope is not imperialistic nor fascist. The pope is the follow up of Saint Peter and how dare you call the pope fascist if you don't have any proof for your accusations. It's time religious freedom returns to North Korea and that it's people can embrace this religion as they wish. North Korea should stop isolating itself from the rest of the world.
I wonder why te Catholic chuirch has churches all over but just about NO other religion left to worship in. I think tjhe Catholics have a closeness with the North Korean Government !
@turtle4aire ------>I think tjhe Catholics have a closeness with the North Korean Government ! ------>Catholics played a pivotal part against the Japanese aiding the KPA guerillas under Kim Il Sung., so Catholics generally enjoy a good degree of religious freedom. If u r group (religious / social etc) is associated w/ being "revolutionary" then u get good perks in DPRK.
@xxxdieselyyy One Catholic Church, One Protestant Church and one Orthodox Church are open in North Korea all in the Capital. That is NOT religious freedom, the last Roman Catholic Bishop of North Korea, if still alive, would be around 110 years old, but he has not been heard from since the 1950's. Both turtle4aire and xxxdieselyyy have no idea of the truth, and they are letting their anti-Catholic bigotry darken their intelligence.
the mass murdering Kim Dynasty has been stealing money from their starving North Korean slaves at gun point to build of themselves are neither Catholics nor
Christians and will burn in Hell on the
Day of Judgment with their false god Kim which like Saddam Hussein's Day of
Judgment will one day come no matter
how many flattering lies the tyrant may
terrify cowards to coddle his own self-delusions of omnipotence with.
Freedom for Catholics in DPRK?? Are you kidding me? There is not a single resident priest in whole NK (Vatican would have to know). All the priests that once were in the country were exiled, imprisoned or executed, Catholic organizations were seized by the state. People have no access to the sacraments, no possibility of overt catechesis or faith-sharing, and can't even engage in simple gestures such as the sign of the cross in public without fear of surveillance.
Fuck You to all Pro Popes in here for rating me lol you know who you are. This Mass is only a show to the world that religion exists in DPRK, an Atheistic state like North Korea can't afford to let faith rule on the lives of the people.
There has not been a living Roman Catholic Priest in North Korea since at least the 1960's. On very rare occassions foreign Roman Catholic priests that are parts of cultural or educational tours are permitted to celebrate the Liturgy. But the one I was able to speak with thought the congregation was primarily for "show." Religious freedom is an illusion in North Korea.

Having no imperialistic and fascist pope in a Church mass like this is a great relief.
I think the camera man is a good Russian, North Koreans are very friendly to Russian people, I think they will not try to offend their comrade so it's alright.
How did you get to this church? My understanding is those outside the country cannot travel anyplace with an escort and cannot go anywhere without the escorts permission.
@residentfan2 -----My understanding is those outside the country cannot travel anyplace with an escort and cannot go anywhere without the escorts permission. ----->That depends on what passport u hold and what relations u r country has w/ DPRK and how u got invited in.
Obviously North Korea has "little" freedom of religion, the government is always suspicious of foreign people connected to religion. Oh who needs the Pope? The Papal institution is a hundred year corrupt and imperialistic system, no to Papism please.
this is the only church in N korea and people going there are the peoples wh no more ave anything to lost goin to a sunday celebration . the other N korean catholics did not go because if you go to the mass in n korea you are fired from your job or your children cannot go to school.
there is still no priest in N korea because of it is forbiden:the governement is officially against religions;
these peoples are very courageous to go to the celebration in absence of a priest in this church.
@ivanzakharchenko According to the testimony of every defector ever, they CAN be put in a labor camp for attending church. What you saw was a facade put on for your benefit.
These guys are trying to worship God in a country which doesn't approve of worshipping God. They can't exactly have a Tridentine High Mass now can they?
from the beginning when I was educated in South Korea...about Anti-Communist and killing Kim Jung IL.I know I was born in cournty where fed up by war and propaganda.
so I talk to real north korean people since I have family back in north korea.
yes there is religious freedom in North Korea
and It seems like many like JUCHE of KIM IL SUNG..
it say about individual's freedom and happiness comes from that individual.
Now then I know that there is freedom of religion in DPRK. I used to be brainwash by CNN into believing that people in DPRK who are faithful to their religion are shot. Thanks.
Thanks for posting this...I thought that religion was forbidden in DPRK. Can you please explain why this church is allowed to exist and who these people are? Are a limited number of trustworthy citizens allowed to be Catholics? I'm very curious.
The DPRK constitution promises freedom of religion for its citizens. To prove this the authorities built one temple of each main religions in Pyongyang by 1989. It was the year of the International youth festival and the churches were aimed to demonstrate the freedom. I'd say the religion is not banned, but also not encouraged in NK.
