@tallyguineapig Well most people that don't eat meat have to supplement with certain amino acids etc. Which is fine, but we are much healthier when we eat some form of meat. It's true that we don't need much of it, (most people eat far too much) but some chicken every now and then is necessary i think. Othwerwise, i totally agree that it's unfare for an animal to not have a chance at a normal life!

Lets get something straight. There is NOTHING wrong with horse slaughter. However the methods people are using are what is wrong! I'm not against horse slaughter just because people like to ride them. As long as they slaughter them in a humane way, I say go ahead. Fact is, meat is meat. I have 2 of my own horses and 2 blocks away is a horse slaughter house. I used to have 3 but my one got out and the animal control took her to the house. We went there and tried to get her back but they wouldn't let us. A week later after they had killed her. Me and my friend rode both of my horses there and broke a lock and let some horses out. My mom called some people and came and got a few. Now we have some wild horses. They never found us. I think its pretty stupid to kill horses.

I love horses and spend 65 hours a week with them. But it's necessary.

It is possible to calculate how many 'vacancies' exist... i mean, good homes where horse can live happily till it's natural death... each year some of these happy horses pass away naturally... how many? - this is the figure! This is the number of horses that may be allowed to enter this world each year - and NO ONE MORE!
If slaughter houses were banned it would prevent stolen horses from being killed. It would also prevent owners from trying to hide their abuse by ushering them in to be killed and evidence to be destroyed. Also wether or not it is or is not illegal has no basis of the fact that people abuse and neglect their animals everyday and it would force most to take the time to rehome rather than dumping them off cause they are unwanted. Slaughter houses provid escape to humans for unwanted animals.

If you end horse slaughter the horses will become overpopulated, totally neglected and left in sheds to starve or transported for days on end to another country where animal welfare standards could be lower. I no people that rescue horses from being dogged they are life savers they grab as many horses and ponies all breeds (but most of them are unknown) hights and ages they save them and sell them to new loving homes they have saved so many ponies lives and i got my horse from a person that bought her of them my girl was going to be dogged but now she is living the dream as a 3 yr old rising 4 quarter horse paint mare

Most of the horses i saved were from the slauhgter hoharlie was use and some were from abusing farmers that were bought. Charlie was saved from a slaughter house. He has 67 scars on his head from abusing farmers hitting him across the head with a hammer. The farmer was arrested for all the animals he have abused

For animal exploitation to be justified:
1. Calculate whether the life of animals as been exploited is worse, equal or better to their natural life.
2. If it is equal or better it is justified. But if it is worse then one must show that the benefit humans get out of this exploitation cancels out their suffering.
3. If there are more ethical ways for humans to gain benefit they ought to turn to them rather than exploiting animals.
Under this, most forms of animal exploitation is unethical

i love animals but i have nothing against killing of animals its part of life, never tried horse meat but i would if i had a chance, alot of the pics in the video of are starved horses that is more moraly wrong than putting them down and using the meat, yes some slaughter houses are cruel and humaine killing doesn't always go as planned but most people do their best to make it painless

I have 2 of my own horses and 2 blocks away is a horse slaughter house. I used to have 3 but my one got out and the animal control took her to the house. We went there and tried to get her back but they wouldn't let us. A week later after they had killed her. Me and my friend rode both of my horses there and broke a lock and let some horses out. My mom called some people and came and got a few. Now we have some wild horses. They never found us. I think its pretty stupid to kill horses.

I heard they stab them in mexico. I 've owned alot of horses and I can imagine how long it would take to stab them to death with that small knife. I can't imagine the pain and fear these poor animals endure. Ever heard of a gun? I'm against it to begin with but if it absolutley must be done then atleast do it without pain and fear. The true crime is overbreading. As one of the top comment says- without slaughter, what would happen to those horses? Some kids would say set them free. Well, they'd breed themselves silly, use up all their resources and eventually starve out. Yes, slaughter conditions should be improved, and a lot of places actually have been making improvemets or steps toward it. I'm actually for horse slaughter, and against over breeding. I love horses and spend 65 hours a week with them. But it's necessary.

It is possible to calculate how many 'vacancies' exist... i mean, good homes where horse can live happily till it's natural death... each year some of these happy horses pass away naturally... how many? - this is the figure! If slaughter houses were banned it would prevent stolen horses from being killed. It would also prevent owners from trying to hide their abuse by ushering them in to be killed and evidence to be destroyed. Also wether or not it is or is not illegal has no basis of the fact that people abuse and neglect their animals everyday and it would force most to take the time to rehome rather than dumping them off cause they are unwanted. Slaughter houses provid escape to humans for unwanted animals.

If you end horse slaughter the horses will become overpopulated, totally neglected and left in sheds to starve or transported for days on end to another country where animal welfare standards could be lower. If it is not kept legal, it will go underground with no welfare regulations, horses will definitely suffer then! Which would you prefer?? No point complaining about how terrible it is

@MrsBuggy444 I agree. There are VERY humane ways to slaughter a horse. I personally think captive bolt pistols aren't a bad idea. If I were to be killed, it'd either be lethal injection (which is poisonous if someone eats my meat [like you would a cow]) or captive bolt pistol used correctly.
Some people are against it. But would you rather the horses be starving to death in some muddy excuse for a field, or roaming the streets of Dallas Texas waiting to be hit by a car and kill everyone inside?

I know this might sound a bit mad, but... I don't think making horse slaughter illegal will solve the problem. If horse slaughter was banned, what do you think will happen to all the abounded horses? Reality; most will starve to death 'cause the owners will leave them. But I agree, the slaughter conditions should be improved A LOT!
