I once had trash bag self detonate with maybe a cubic foot of good mix in it, I was leaning over the top of it but had safety glasses and ear plugs. It completely shredded my new shirt (a nice one too) and blew me on my ass. My torso and arms had whip marks everywhere but eyes and ears were fine. I save the reminants of shirt. Really it was all the beer I consumed prior that let me be so reckless.

I have made and detonated hundreds of these things in all sorts of containers and sizes. Its not hard to get a near ideal O2/Acet mix. When they say 10 inch i assume they mean diameter. No chance that it can do that much damage. I'm guessing it was a plastic garbage bag, that would be the right size and much more prone to self detonate from static electric spark. Difficult for ballons to self detonate because the don't have rinkles to generate and discharge spark. Use ballons if available.

A single match is a more effective incendiary than a balloon that only burns for a few milliseconds, and is impossible to transport safely.

dumbpeopleRlucky still has a point. The worst that could happen with such an item is one hell of a headache and mabey a bit of a burn. But You would have to litterly be standing on the thing. reason being is that when in just a balloon, all you get is a really big shock wave. There's no compression for it to do any real distructive damage. the car ended up the way it was because it acted as a compressor. The driver walked away shaken but more or less unharmed.
