"Rat Man" is actually Doug Rattmann, a former emplyee for Aperture Science. He was the last surviving employee and tried to help Chell escape in Portal 1. Without his help, Chell couldn't have killed GLaDOS and made it to the surface at the end of Portal 1. However, Rat Man hadn't counted on a Party Escort to drag Chell back to her Cryo-Chamber. Because of GLaDOS's death, all Cryo-Chambers were offline. He was shot by a turret, but managed to get them back online before he died. Then came P2.

I am pretty sure Half life 2: Episode 3 will be set in Portal. At the end of Episode 2 you see the guys find the giant ship and in Portal 2 there is an easter egg that you can find, which is the hanger for that ship. So, maybe you find Ratman in Half life 2: Episode 3. Just a theory.

In test chamber 17 in chapter 3, there is a broken glass window. Make a light bridge up there and you should be able to shoot a portal to get in. Also the section of the wall where you get into the den will close up when you leave it.
