  • All about the tools :)

  • Larry I just placed my 5th order with you today, I just wanted to say thanks for the awesome products and good prices, your company has always been good to me. I was looking through the catalog last night and I saw a Picture of you and your wife. It made me proud to see two white americans that own such a great buisness. Thank you and God bless the USA!!!

  • the utmost inaccuracy... yup thats what he said

  • Truing doesn't improve accuracy as much as it increases consistency, which is the main goal. Your barrel/trigger and form will be the most important part in accuracy.

  • When hunting African game on a hunt of a lifetime, I would never employ the use of a PUSH FEED action like the Remington 700.

Mauser style CONTROLLED FEED actions such as the Winchester 70, Ruger 77, Interarms, Charles Daly, Springfield '03 A3, etc. are much more reliable.

  • If you have a Remy 700 (or any good bolt gun) that needs blueprinted then its a factory defect! They are all machined to really tight tolerances... how can you improve on .5 to .75 MOA? Any more accurate and the shooter won't notice any difference....

  • @XHustonProductionsX not true, and machine can be improved on with blueprinting

  • This is probably a dumb question, but can I use my existing barrel after truing or does it need to be modified along with the action OR do I have to re-barrel the action once it's trued? Would it be worth the effort to true just the bolt lugs and bolt face?

  • Who replies to all the comments...? It surely cannot be Larry Potterfeild, can it?! :o

  • then you need to build a round for that rifle to get the most out of it...

  • Some say Larry Potterfield is the part of Chuck Norris that loves people. It's been rumored that if you speak badly of women, children, or the shooting sports, he will turn into Chuck Norris before your eyes, but no one has lived to confirm that rumor.

  • Well made video, but truing actions will not make enough improvement in accuracy to be worth my time.

Put a Shilen select match stainless steel barrel on the most un true action, shoot concentric ammo with good bullets on a windless day, and get one hole accuracy.

True an action, and get no change.

  • @tnekkc use a chrome moly barrel they are better, the throats down erode as much and they clean better :)

  • I wish I had Larry's shop :)

  • I own a Rem SPS tactical. I handload and the only mod is a Timney trigger. With a Leu. 4.5x14 and my Lapua or Sierra MK loads it will shoot one ragged hole at a hundred easily. I would love to do this to my rifle, but I don't think I could do my part to see a diff. in accuarcy. It is already more accurate than I can shoot.

  • @2253glen Most of this is for benchrest rifles at 1000 yards ... for the typical hunting rifle ... you probably won't see a dimes worth of difference especially if your rifle already shoots pretty well to begin with. On the other hand, if your rifle is spraying bullets ... then this might be the solution or a good quality barrel.

  • @2253glen well, I think Travis Haley said something about you're the only thing limiting yourself if you think like that

  • This is the weirdest music I've ever heard in a gun video.

  • I could see this making the whole system more efficient but how would this translate to more accuracy? Wouldn't the bullet travel down the barrel just as well?

  • @caseye11is I believe the object here is to get the bullet to start into the bbl. as perfectly true to the center line as possible. The straighter is starts down the bbl. the less microscopic wobble it has in flight and will have the best chance to be more accurate.

  • @caseye11is As I understand it, if all critical surfaces in the action are not 100% squared with the center line, this translates to small stresses and torques that affect the whipping/vibration of the barrel as a shot is fired. With everything square and in-line, these stresses are mitigated and the harmonic motion of the barrel is mitigated as the rifle is fired.

  • 1:16 lol, sounds like he is saying,"upmost inaccuracy"

  • Holy crap boss you went way too fast!

  • @MultiSr16 Some respect man .

  • I shop at Midway all the time yet I had no idea you did these gunsmithing videos. This is going to help me tremendously!

    Thanks a bunch!!

  • Learn to single point the receiver threads.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner Can you explain?

  • With all this expertise, the right tools and so forth - it's still only NEARLY perfect, I must laugh.

  • R U drunk?

  • Larry, how would a person learn gunsmithing ? What would be your suggestions. You make things so interesting plus your such a great teacher.

  • @harleyghost I just sent you a personal message with some great gunsmithing and gunsmithing school information. Hope it helps!

  • @MidwayUSA Hey larry, i would also like to learn about gunsmithing. Would you care to send me a message with some gunsmithing school informations?

  • @MidwayUSA Could i get the same information larry?

  • @MidwayUSA Would it be possible to send me the same information? I've been interested in gunsmithing for a while, but I've never been exactly sure where to start learning through a hands-on approach. Thanks!

  • @MidwayUSA any chance you can forward the same information?

  • @MidwayUSA Hello there, can I get the same message sent to my inbox as well please?

  • @MidwayUSA could i have a copy of the email, ive been very interested.. im a welder and metal worker and i love and enjoy guns and this has been something thats been on my mind.

  • @MidwayUSA larry can you please refer me to a good gunsmithing school?

  • @harleyghost hi there :) i see Midway usa sent u some info on gunsmithing, could you please give it to me too? :3

  • Uhhhh, just send your rifle to Midway cuz I doubt we all have tools like that badmofo has.

  • will this fix a sticky bolt?

  • @futureusmc100 what rifle of yours has a sticky bolt?

  • @7zobzombie remmington 700 .243

  • Hi Larry: I love the tool you used to square the bolt face. Do you have any plans to offer a similar tool for Mausers? You offer a good service to us shooters and i'm a loyal customer, keep up the good work! :)

  • its so easy when you have thousands of dollars worth of high end gunsmithing tools the proper vices and jigs. How about you show servicing techniques that normal people can do without having to buy thousands of dollars worth of tools, Lary

  • @kdo54 something like truing the action of a bolt action rifle requires high-end tools. Until everyone can afford a quality lathe, I don't expect some of the more complicated gunsmithing projects being within reach of people with little money.

  • I need to do this with my Mauser.

  • : )

  • @MrAnimeGuru

Disgrace the other post, I somehow got in my head that lapping lugs involves fileing the bolt lugs.

  • @MrAnimeGuru

I know about the wipe effect if you close the bolt normal style, but right now I'm confused about the lapping compound. So does the lapping material mark the spots where the boltlugs are not in contact or does the lapping material just fill those areas and your good to go?

  • The M700 is a safari rifle ?

  • @Jordenkl

It comes chambered in many calibers. You can buy it in larger cartridges like .338 Lapua, .458 Winchester Magnum and .375 Holland&Holland. You can easily use the rifle for Safari hunting if you have the right round

Remington also sells the rifle in a "Model 700 Safari" version.

  • @Gezab Never knew it's custom also for 375 HH , good to know

  • At the part 1:04 where larry uses lapping compound doesn't he have to file the bolt lugs to achive the even contact? At the video he just put's the lapping combound to the lugs, jiggle the bolt and then he is finnished. I tought the lapping compound shows where the contact area is not even, and that is the are you should file. I'm not doubting larrys expertice on gunsmithing, but I think the video is missing a crucial step.

  • what will ya take in trade?

  • Great stuff Larry!

  • In all honesty most of the trueing of the lug areas should be done on a lathe, but this works just as good.

  • THE MASTER CRAFTSMAN!

  • I've heard of blueprinting, but never really knew what was involved. Awesome video.

  • I feel like i know nothing...

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles I know, I feel the same way...
