She is incredible, the musicians are incredible, the song is incredible. This is one of the most profound interpretations of a song I have ever heard in my life.
N2itv2-It is the new milenium. We no longer wear Afros. The music and soul is no longer exclusively ours. People, some as ignorant, albeit downright racists, such as yourself, have decided to (quite successfully so) cash in on our so called, as you put it, "Afro People's" music. And as for the "them" you are so eloquently ascribed to people of color, you yourself are probably of color, but only in this country can you pass. My prayers are with you, God Bless us all, everyone.
"The tempo here is much too rushed and while a marvelous rendition, lacks the depth, breath and introspection palpable. . . ." OMG!!!! The whatever, the whatever. . . is what makes Afro peoples and music and music innovation by them So Off The Hook! Thank God!!!
Chill and be glad after you've attempted to dissect the beauty!!!! We've all got jobs, I guess.
The tempo here is much too rushed and while a marvelous rendition, lacks the depth, breath and introspection palpable on the Blue Light 'til Dawn cd. Cassandra still reigns supreme.
Cassandra Wilson not only makes this Jazz ballad standard her own but delivers the definitive version imho.
Wilson's unique phrasing and emotional truth [& the arrangement] takes this ballad to a whole knew depth of saddness. I have seen her perform this live & the crowd was in a trance watching, listening to this woman bare her soul. Transendental.
This is the definitive version of this piece... the arrangement is so unique and the chord changes are from Mars, yet this is breathtaking. Cassandra makes it her own.........
Who wrote the song? Incredible!

This is MOVING. It has almost got a flamenco flavor with the acoustic finger-style and then the violin comes in and throws into another realm.
