haha what you can do with a few phalanxes is make a V shape at the mouth of the bridge. you can fill up the V with people and kill more than with a strict phalanx at the mouth. If have like a phalanx based army hell just make a corridor of spears, they never get past the first two unit rows of the corridor and they die fast

is there any psibility in rtw to conquer a bridge against such a phalanx? I mean... if you use another phalanx, it will be completly useless, because all the units don't stand in formation when they cross the bridge...

use archers or skirmishers to shoot them and when they are weakened send guys with really good defence to charge them and it should break through the formation.
