  • I love your hair unfortunately my hair is not your texture

  • Do you have pictures of your transition?

  • I'm from Tupelo,Ms! Are you on an insurance commercial?!

  • My family is from West Point, MS ^_^

  • OMG! I was on your Foki and I saw that you are from West Point! I'm in Tupelo! We right beside each other! haah....but anyways I REALLY wish I could have your hair! I hope to get their soon though :) You inspired me!

  • Im surprised you didn't get any compliments the twists looked gorgeous! I WISH my hair would cooperate like that when I put twists in!

  • ur hair. is. so. beautiful.

  • Do you have to cut all your hair to transition.

  • Great video! I really liked your "plan it out" tip. I didn't have a plan, I was pregnant and cranky, lol. I did my big chop and had, literally 1" of stretched fro. People's comments spanned, "Why? What did you do?? Wow, that's brave." It got rough in there. However, I fell in love with MY hair!!! I now have 8" of healthy stretched fro three years later. I appreciate your video and i'm excited for your secondary growth journey, too!

  • Your hair is sooo gorgeous!!

  • I want my hair to look like yours in 5 years

  • You should cornrow the shaved side less embarrassment in the wind x love your videos :)

  • I cut my hair last month, and everyone was like: "why did you cut your hair?, or oh you cut your hair...." I was like wow no positive feedback.. but I didn't care I liked it. But now I'm like why did I cut it!!!??

  • @kayl3rsx3 i was getting the same response and for like 4 months,i would hide my hair with wigs and wraps =( but now im in my 10th month, and my hair is close too shoulder length, and all i've been using was oils, keep ur hair constantly oiled, but not too oiled, when it starts 2 get longer, twist and braid it,i guarantee if u DONT use heat AT ALL its gonna grow super fast!!no chemicals or heat have touched my hair and i love how it feels!!no more nappy roots, its kinky but NOT nappy!!

  • @kayl3rsx3 same with me too! Except I get the silent stare. lol! You will get used to it...I love my do now!

  • How long have you been natural?

  • is that your natural curl pattern or is that a braid out or a twist out.

  • I saw your big chop pics a long time ago and I was like she had to have transitioned longer than 2 yrs!!! Then I went natural!!!!!!!! I transitioned 1yr, cut it, then wore protective styles had 2 trims and a year later my hair is about that long!!!! Didnt know hair grew this fast!!!!

  • Wow you waited after two years. I currently transitioning for 10 months and I am scared. I surpose to go to a professional to cut my permed ends and I hope that the professional dont cut more than what she surpose to. I just can not take the two different textures any more because I can not wear my hair out. Plus I want my hair to be healthy after a good cut.

  • My sister had relaxed hair and just shaved it of haha. I asked her if she had thought about it but she was like. My hair is not healthy so i'll shave it of. I wish I could be so brave........

  • thanks for posting this video i recently mini chop=meaning i still have relaxed ends!!so it's encouraging hearing from ladies like that have been there done that. Like you said I'm learning to disregard other people's comments about my hair b/c i like it and that's ALL that matters! thanks again

  • How old were you when you did your big chop and how long did it take to get you to your current length

  • Oh great. I am originally from MS too and moved to the city too!!!!

  • wish you were here in l.a. bb.

  • You have gorgeous hair, my God.

  • I dont know what to do.

I so badly wants long and beautiful hair. my hair has been relaxed, but it has been years since, 4 if not more years.. im 21 and my hair is around shoulder lenght.. I have lost all faith in my hair, I dont think it will ever grow passed that :(

  • @Maribuu transition for a year or so your still young and young ppl usually pull off short cuts. whats the point of relaxing if its gunna snap off? i encourage you, just do like some weekly deep conditioning at home and moisturize daily and do some protective styles. If you decide to transition you should cut the relaxed ends once ur natural hair hits a little past ur current length so youll think to yourself wow its growing!

  • Wow thats A LOT of hair

  • I feel you. I was feeling the same when i did my big chop. Keep up the good work!

  • I live in Mississippi!!!

  • @damita1966 Me too! And I just moved from one city to another in MS for a job too. What a coincidence. lol

  • i agree with going into not expecting compliments and support from others. you have to do it for yourself

  • when i big chopped i felt saved really free and when i twissted it i loved them and i was so confident with it that was shocking cause i never would of gone out with my hair like that i was strutting i didnt care wot people said cause it was my hair mine who cares when ure confident with it then people respect that cause ure doingh u and u dont care trust me and try to enjoy every stage

  • ilove your hair length. i have like like 6 inch to go

  • Your hair is absolutely stunning

  • beautiful hair...have you ever had it all shaved to the scalp?

it would look fantastic on you! ;D

  • I love this video. I just keep watching it...

  • I did my big chop over 10yrs ago, and I did it again 4 yrs. I'll trying to get myself mentally to do the big chop again. I actually like my hair short.

  • I have a quick question, I heard keeping your hair braided a lot can thin it out, and I try and keep sew-ins just because it is the easiest way to deal with my transitioning hair. With these sew-ins I use little to no heat at all on my real hair. Do you think getting them constantly will cause my hair to become thinner or less healthy? And is there any care for my hair you suggest I do with sew-ins? Thanks in advance.

  • Your look and hair reminds me of Cocoa from the TV series Fame. Cute!

  • Your hair is gorgeous in all stages. Your coworkers were nutts to not compliment your hair look. Oh well. When you showed the hair growing out (from previously shaved style), I could see that short hair would be very pretty on you, too. Thanks for sharing.

  • I don't wear make up and my ears aren't pierced.... :(

  • do you ever style the shorter hair? could you post pic/vids if you do? thx i LOVE your hair #hairstalker

  • so how long have you been natural ???

  • You still have a lot of length on the side. Maybe you can cornrow it into a design for those windy days...doubling as a protective style ;-)

  • I love the two pics of your friend! The transformation was GREAT! Love it! Werck!

  • from ur shaved sides, you would have been really pretty with a short cut. your bone structure allows for it. anywhos! love ur vids!

  • i just want my hair to be things long again, im currently transitioning and I've been getting relaxers since 6th grade and my hair has gotten so short since. I remember having hair running all down my back as a child lol. Cant wait for it to grow

  • omg your hair is sooo amazing.. im so jealous

  • Dang, girl. I bet you use up the whole bottle of giovanni conditioner in one setting. My hair ain't even half as long as yours and I use up half the bottle at one time. That stuff is good but definitely doesn't stretch.

  • Hey Chime! Update your fotki, I need some hairspiration, my ends are being difficult right now :( Plus, I`m getting some breakage.

  • I accidentally Big Chopped a few days ago. I was five months into my transition and felt like I wanted shorter hair so it'd be easier to style, but I don't know anything about cutting hair and the next thing I knew it was all gone! I intended to transition for a minimum of a year, so I never thought I'd have hair this short. It's sort of scary to big chop this way, but you're right that styling and outfit/earrings help you to feel pretty if you're unsure about the very first results!

  • I really feel you on all the advice. You and my other natural sisters are providing so much help and support. I didn't have these resources when I went natural 10 years ago and simply gave up when I got tired of the super low to tea back and fourth, as once I had 8 inches I didn't know how to deal. I mean I was walking around looking s bit of a mess (you can't pick my hair out it waves and dips and goes friZy, limp straight in a minute). So I went went back to the creamy crack. I'm 4 months int

  • I wasnt gonna "Big Chop" nothin i just let my relaxer grow out and trimmed the ends as I went.

  • you have lovely hair

  • how long have you been natural since you cut your relaxed ends off

  • i used to leave in jackson ms

  • I know you worked really hard to get your hair long. Or maybe not, but I think you'd look so cute with a TWA. I just say that because you showed your new growth on the side shaved thing. So cute.

  • @5:25 Especially in Mississippi

  • You truly are my hair crush! I always tell everyone about you on my hairlista page!

  • Thank you so much! I am planning to BC in 2 months and this advice was much needed

  • Great video :-) Your side hair is growing really good.

  • I really enjoyed this. I did a big chop 5 years ago, and then went back to relaxing. I'm thinking of going natural again soon. Thanks, Chime for sharing! :)

  • great video and i love your hair i just did my big chop and 1 year of transitioning and when i first cut it i was like your friend but when i styled it they couldnt tell me nothing lol hhj cant wait to see the progress of your side growing back!!!

  • do you regret shaving the side? great vid

  • You should braid it or flat twist the sides! SUPPER CUTE!!!

  • Is this a braid out?

  • So there is a long streak of purple light on the left side of your head and for a minute or two I thought you had colored just a one long chunk of your hair!! I was like, "This girl's sense of style is awesome!" And then when I realized you didn't color your hair I was like, "awwww". hahaha You ever thought about coloring your hair?

  • Your hair was long even after you cut the straight ends off. You hair has grown a lot WOW!!! So pretty.

  • Nice keep keepin it real

  • Congrats on your move and new job!!! Go girl! You are a huge inspiration for me on my healthy hair journey, thank you for sharing your story!

  • I transitioned for 19 months and when I cut off the relaxed ends I felt soooo liberated like u said, I rocked a w&g the 1st day. I really didn't and still don't care what others think about my hair, you surely said everything that is sooo true about how one feels when they part with the relaxed ends, you said exactly what I always tell others that are transitioning. Your hair looked great in those twist after ur BC, still looks good.

  • everything you said I surely agree

  • As soon I see your hair, I like the vid before I even watch it...LOL

  • love your videos, your my hair idol! >.<

    lol

  • you look like jessica white

  • wow. your hair looked GREAT when you did your first twists!!!

  • I'm on my 16th month of my 2 year (I think, that how long I'm going to go) transition. Every wash I'm thinking "I can't wait to cut off these straight ends!!" but I will wait. :-)

  • What beautiful styles. I would love to see a video of how you would create both looks on your current hair. Thanks so much for your video and for sharing your story. The beauty of your hair is definitely an inspiration.

  • You could comb twist the shorter side to have a neater look while growing it out.

  • your hair beautiful , i am so glad to keep going in my natural hair journey, i am now 1 year in 1 month natural , loving my curlys , my hair is thick like yours in i have to say this give me so much uplifting to see how long it can get if i keep taking good care of it :)

  • WOW.

my hair is thick...natural...and doesnt stay straight.

i'm arm pit length kinda and it just look sooo bulky on the ends.

but, your hair IS HELLA THICK... AND BEAUTIFUL.

    you give me hope! lol...

  • why did you move new job??

  • Yep!!

  • France/Spain is watching you ;)

I can't understand your collegue, like narrow minded, just used to straght hair like brain washed by the society. Whatever.

I'm really astonished about what your saying about the difference of texture of your hair with two textures and with your hair after the big chop. I though transitionning could help to managed the kinky texture.

Does the difference between relaxed and natural hair is so visible ? Even with hair put in twist ? (Hope to be understand ^^)

  • you should get the short part braided into different flyy braid styles. that would be hot.

  • I totally hear you on the whole mental transformation. Prior to going natural, I used to get comments all the time about looking like a model and once I started wearing my hair natural all the went out the door lol. I've been natural now for 9 months and I love the change, and positive comments are back!!!

  • in the photo you look like Vanessa William.

  • Hi Chime, since you asked could you do a video talking about the hair from the other women in your familiy? Do they also have long, thick hair? Do you have diferent hair types? That would be great! Thanks

  • The hair on the side will grow back in no time. It was a cute style though. It had an edge to it. I love your hair and personality. How often do you brush your hair? I was interested because I have read that natural hair should not be brushed as much because it causes damage to the hair. If you can get back I will appreciate it.

  • You looked like Vanessa Williams[ from Melrose Place ] in that photo.

  • Your hair looks just like my cousin's naturally. It was that long when she was like 7 but when she got older she cut it

  • I think that there is a mental as well as a physical big chop. The mental big chop entails mentally & spiritually letting go of the old and embracing the new, and it's usually done over a period of time. I think that if physical big chop precedes the mental big chop, the physical big chop can be very difficult to traumatic. But if the mental big chop precedes the physical big chop, then the physical big chop will be joyful. Sounds like your physical big chop, like mine, was joyful.

  • @maximuslyricus I completely agree! I actually talked about that but I had to edit it down a lot (it was origanlly 17 minutes long). A mental transformation is a must!!

  • i'm currently transitioning, i'm 32 weeks post relaxer, and omg the responses of people are incredible-in a bad way, but fortunately i'm confident within myself to smile and keep it moving. i have fallen in LOVE with my hair, 4c, and there is no turning back. thanks for the vid and God bless! smooches!

  • he chime you should document ur hair growth on our shaved side thats growing out

  • You called your sde cut weired Lady i like it.

  • During your transition stages for over 2 years did you wear extensions-weave or braids?

  • I loooooooooooooooove your hair! Just beautiful!

  • how did you cut your relaxed ends off? did you put your hair in twists 1st? im not sure how i would cut my ends off.

  • chime

  • hey chime when r u going flatiron your hair?

  • Hey Chime! I just wanted to know if you have a plan on when your going to flat iron your hair. I am not trying to rush you or anything but I would be so happy if you did!! You have flawless hair Chime!! :)

  • I'm currently transition for 18 mnths now... everytime I get tempted to relax my hair I watch anyone of your vids... my hands been itching me to cut also...

  • How much hair did you cut off during your BC. Did you go from waist length to APL?

  • @RealChic4eva No. My hair was a little pass my shoulders in the front/top and about bra strap length in the back before I cut it. After I did the big chop it fell a little past collar bone length.

  • @HairCrush this answer gives me hope!!!!! That is the length that I am at currently and it sooo hard to look into the future and see myself at bra strap! I still worry about if I will ever get there but there's hope!

  • thank your this video but im curious and forgive me if you answered this question already...what did u used to grow your hair so long and beautiful?

  • you just have to stand there and move your hair around, you dont even have to tlk, and i will watch your entire video :) LUV your hair

  • U should totally cornrow the shaved part, it would look awesome and it would be low maintanence, in my opinion

  • Im glad to hear this video, I big chopped the 17th of this month & I only transitioned for 3 months and 3 weeks & I have some of the same feelings that you do

  • Thanks for posting the Big Chop. I am struggling with taking off my full lace and wearing my natural hair which is long but I had some excessive thinning in the middle of my head. But looking at this video you helped me get the courage to wear it out. You rock Chime! Enjoy your new move.

  • You have such a bright spirit!! thank you SO much for not being stuck up even tho u have the BEST hair. Makes us feel we don't have to envy you with a passion, and that we are all special. make sense? haha

  • @aerbear24 lol Thank you so much! That makes me feel good! Everyone should know that their hair is special and beautiful even if it is not waist length. Length isn't what makes our hair special. It's the different kinks, coils, waves, coils and naps! Yay for naps! lol

  • LMFAO@"girl, its gone be sad."

  • your hair grows soooo fast!

  • love your hair

  • YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL

  • your hair is soooo gorgeous

  • How long was your hair when you did the BC . ? -Bp.<3

  • Hey chime, sharonda here! Can't wait for mardi gras!

  • @tinydm12 Girl me either!!! I've been telling my bf and friends they better get ready!! I plan on losing my mind in Nawleans and returning to Jackson without it lol

  • @HairCrush I live in New Orleans! Maybe we can meet up when you come here!

  • Girl if I would've had that much hair after my BC no body would've been able to get to me!! It was really long, and it was cute! As for your shaved side, yay for regrowth, can't wait to see how it progresses and have you thought about putting in cornrows or flat twists on that side that's growign back? If you put those in, it will look styled when the wind blows! : )

  • I'm actually from your hometown and I know exactly the reaction you're talking about. I got the same one in 2005.

  • LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!

  • Your so pretty and down to earth :)

  • HOLY MOLY! You really did cut that part of your hair :D Its cool seeing the drastic length difference. How do you get your longer hair to curl up like that? The loose curl is super cute and I want to try it

  • wise words!

  • You are just too adorable. I'm glad we get to see your shaved side grow from scratch. :-)

  • wow idk how you actually transitioned for so long lol, i did my chop going on 2 months ago and i transitioned for about 3 months n hated dealing with the 2 textures. .....but i love your hair its beautiful and i have a llllllllllooooooooonnnnnnnggggg way to go before it reaches ur length lol but i cant wait :)

  • First off the people where you work at is crazy because your hair was gorgeous when you bc'd! It still is! Did you blow it out and twist it or does your hair just grow like weeds? lol. I transitioned for 2yrs and 4mo and my hair was no where near that length when i bc'd and it still isn't (I bc'd 6/12/11)

  • Awesome video and points made. I remember going to work after I did my big chop and negativity hit me from all angles. There were only 2 people at my job that was happy for me. What they said or how they looked at me didn't matter because u had built positive fence around me and I had a "humble confidence" that was out if this world! Funny that after my hair started to grow back how the females who had all of these negative comments to make, all of s sudden loved my hair and wanted to go natura

  • Your hair is gorgeous! Are you able to do wash and go styles? That would be an interesting tutorial.

  • Hi Chime, do you think that when your side grows out much longer or to the length that you want would you cut the rest to make it even?

  • can't you just grow your hair out by wearing it braided or close to its natural texture like a rod set?

  • what's that clicking sound thats in all your videos?

  • Yay ur back hope you got everything straight! Anyway I love the side u would look cute with short hair too love it! BTW I totally understand the liberation once u cut it you're free lol weird but true

  • Your hair is gorgeous...they were just hating on you when you bc'd.

  • Transitioning and doing a BC is a very emotional journey. Some people will never understand that. But as cliche' as it sounds, every emotion you talked about, are the same ones I've experienced. But I 'm glad I did it. Thanks for sharing :)

  • WOW ur hair was rly pretty right away..I was looking like ur friend lol

  • Your hair is sooooo pretty!! Have you always had long hair?

  • thanks for the video update! i remember seeing a feature with you shortly after you BCed and i was like--wow id be lucky if my hair could get as long as you had it then; but seeing it now it has def flourished since then! if you do keep track of your undercut could you post pics up on fotki? luckily for you you can hide it until its back so maybe it wont be so bad :^>

  • "Came to life" was the perfect description for chopping :). Though it's been 2 months since I chopped, this vid was really helpful. I'm still getting used to my hair and what it likes and doesn't like.

  • Your hair is beautiful hon and don't laugh..But when I saw the texture on your undercut I go excited because that's how my natural hair looks :D I am 5 months into my transition after being natural for 10 months from a BC :/ I really wish I had just started transitioning from then instead of doing the BC .. I really wasn't ready for it. But I am loving my transition most of the times. Lol

  • I did my big chop 08/26/11, yay!! I transitioned for a year, but it was actually very hard for me because I was hiding it under wigs and did not take the best care of my hair. My hair has never been as short as it is now. I love it, but not yet comfortable enough to wear it natural at work, so I still wear wigs. It's kinda weird, but I know my co-workers just will not get it. Is it wrong to hide it from my co-workers? Besides, i'm still learning how to take care of it and styles that work.

  • i have been transitioning for 8 1/2 months now and i plan to transition for also about 2 years but still i am really scare that i might not be about to bring myself to do the big chop!! do u have any advice on how to deal with that? thanks

  • I totally agree with you! I big chopped last month after 7 months of transitioning and i was cheesing and laughing while cutting my relaxed ends. My hhj started with focusing on healthy, chemical free hair, but amazingly something more beautiful happened--I learned to be ok with me and completely accept myself kinks and all and not give a lovely what anyone else thinks... I love it! I'm SO cool with ME! My goal---an afro that covers my eyes, one that i have to pickup to see! LOL:)

  • Thanks for making this vid...I'm 25 months into my transition and I'm quite inspired by you and your journey : )

  • You're so beautiful and positive! Love your videos.

  • Your hair was cute! Them co-workers don't know what they talking about! LOL

  • "Hey yall its Chime" lol So cute!! love your videos!!!!!!

  • why don't you just braid down the short peice it will look like a nice style

  • @TawanaNicole Yay!!! I get excited over silly stuff too! lol

  • We've missed you! Don't stay gone so long next time.......;o) joking! Anywho, great video as usual, I agree with the last person's comment you should definitely braid your undercut! your gorgeous outside and in! Peace and blessings......:o)

  • Do you think a cute way to grow out your undercut would be to cornrow it sometimes? Like in different designs? I was even thinking you could do little mini braids on it to make it hang down or something. Idk I always want to undercut my hair like you did but then I'm like "ugh I gotta figure out a cute way to grow it back out though" lol.

  • @yoruhime88 Yes! I was thinking the same thing. When it gets long enough I'm going to cornrow it and wear it as a style. I think it will be cute. I think you should do it! I loved it! Sometimes I think about going back to the barber shop...

  • do you know of any tracks that are this texture? my hair is natural but i just want some more length :) I'm moving to the city too! How do you like it?

  • @ithastobecatchy A friend of mine uses the marley braid weave and she does the crochet braid technique. To get a wavy/curly look, you can braid the hair and dip it in hot water before installing it or you can use pipe cleaners as rods. It looks really goood....really natural.

  • @HairCrush thanks!

  • When did you start using natural products? I'm very very new to this experince and I'm thinking about going natural.

  • About halfway through my transition period. Check out Wal-Mart's natural beauty section as well as Target's. Try different things until you find what you like.

  • I dont think im going to BC at all, just gradually cut. I can never even tell where my new growth is anyway :/

  • YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL IN THOSE PIC'S!!!!! :) I love it.... I would have complimented you all day at work!

  • @gitanaeyes1 RIGHT!!! Her hair was super cute, and it was still really long

  • I did my big chop yesterday..I am still in shock that I did it but I am happy that I did it..

  • @kaceasor85 Congrats girl!! I like to call it "The Big Chop Shock" lol It will go away eventually and you will begin to enjoy your journey! Good luck!

  • @kaceasor85 - congratulations!!
