  • I have the utmost respect for anyone who's ever completed a smolov. I've never tried it myself, and it looks like a lifting cycle that the devil himself wouldn't want to try.

  • @krakistophales I also have the respect for everyone doing Smolov. I always follow with interest when someone starts it, even for the toughest guys it is not a guaranteed success. Weights that looks impossible at the beginning becomes possible once you are into the program. Mostly I've done a lot of smolov base meso cycles, the complete program for back squats I've completed twice. It is bloody hard, that's for sure. Hardest thing I've done..

  • Much respect that you Squat that much with that intensity and with no gear at all. Are those by the way weightlifting shoes? And how comfortable are they when Squatting? I am planning on buying those as I am currently Squatting with no shoes but I want something to stand on during competition etc. =P

    Either I buy those or some Converse shoes, what do you recommend?

  • I have a spot actually. I can crash into the rack if it goes wrong. But no human spotter, as I train mostly alone. :)

  • There has been no success. The loose grip is a personal preference for some of my training cycles.

  • It's man-kind against IRON - I am with you my brother. Looks like 3rd rep on set 10 was better then 3rd rep on sets 7,8, or 9. I get the same feeling on the last set sometimes, and when I do I even do one extra rep sometimes to prove that I own the weight. How long did this workout take? How long was the average break? Looks like your breaks are long enough to recover, which is great.

  • With that attitude, you are going to become a very strong squatter! :) I like your videos. You own the weights very often. :) I can't answer any of your questions because I don't time it. I just do it. But it takes quite some time, and the breaks are pretty long. My only goal is to complete the workout, so I rest till I feel ready to take on the next set. The last set is often a good set, because then there is no limits, then I just push with all I have, because there is no more to do after.

  • I think there will be 5 or 6 days of rest before attempting 1RM lift.

  • I like the pause at the bottom of your squat. It's let cheating. Kind of how on pull ups some people add a lil swing at the bottom to give them momentim for the next rep and so on. Without a bounce or a border line bounce at the bottonm of your squat your basicly driving up from a dead stop...which is good.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, this style of squatting is harder than the normal style. I use it in training cycles from time to time. I don't usually do this style for maximum attempts. With this style I lift approx 10% less weight.

  • Yes, I train alone. So internet comments are a good source of motivation. When I am tired, then I think of that I want to make another good video. I don't want to let you all down. I put pressure on myself so to speak. If I fail everybody would know. Hehe... It is important to find methods that work for motivation! :)

  • Well, it is kind of a lifestyle. I was much more fanatic when I started training, and I had the same drive and effort at that time. But I was very weak, so nobody noticed. Now I've trained for almost 10 years, and I am stronger, so of course it is fun to have some recognition. But remember this is a hobby, and nothing that I can make a living from. :) But we only live once, so it is fun to see how strong I can become. I put down the hard work required, and then we will see in the end! :)

  • when you can do raw pause squats with a high bar placement for 10 sets 3 reps you will probably feel like a hulking monster. Mindboggling kraftsport mindBOGGLING!

  • That is a good question. I think it just developed and I did not care to correct it. I think it is okay when I have a narrow stance on the bar.

  • smolov is: introductory microcycle, base meso cycle, switching period, intense meso cycle. I've just completed the base meso cycle. google smolov to find the entire layout. thanks!
