the point of a box is to regulate air pressure and would have a lot more bass. or you could just put sound deadner and fiberglass through out the trunk and get close to the same effect as a box. without a box and the way its set up you turning your trunk into a box, but your losing air pressure.

It's a sweet set up, but alot of people r correct. I have two tens with a power 1000 running my whole system in a 95 M3CSL, and have embarrassed certain individs with a ridiculous amount of subs. One guy had 4-15's & 2-8's as mid bass. Gotta love the old school Rockford equip.! Keep at it!

@Fewstanator dynamat (or the equivalent) works as a sound dampener, so sound doesnt leave in the the form of rattles or holes in interior design, it brings alot more sound into the car. its one of the most overlooked upgrades

You know, thinking about it, the whole trunk acts sort of like a sealed enclosure... I thought this would be a ghetto setup when I first saw 8 woofers without a box in a trunk, but this probably has a great frequency response.

My girlfriend has a stock stereo system with an upgraded HU, the bass from the 6 x 9s is almost as loud as a woofer! Trunks do act like enclosures when done properly!
