The biggest pile of absolute bollocks in the history of Edinburgh, all its done is put half of leith walks shops out of business n made the council absolutely skint, they never even asked us if we wanted them, just went ahead n did it anyways, unbelievable!!
Well there are fors and against in everything aren't there?
Loads boo one-way systems being turned back to two way traffic after being one-way for so many years but do one-way systems solve the traffic problems?
This is what happened where I live but the last few years the one-way system was in tact the traffic was kaoss.
The Jocks cannot be trusted to organise anything. Look at their parliament building, and now this fiasco. If the English grant them independence, they will crash and burn just like Ireland & come Tam O'Shanter-in-hand back to London.
ONLY SHEEP USE buses and trams, promote safer cycling, I can get from the meadows to Telford in 20mins during rush hour, I over take countless cars and buses every day, I'm not super fit, i only started cycling a few months ago but wow i have saved a lot of time and money. ZERO EMISSION'S, FREE PARKING, PERFECT PUNCTUALITY, ALMOST NO RUNNING COST, FCUKING SOLD!!!!! GET ON YOUR BIKE
I'm from Sheffield. After the amazingly expensive white elephant that is the Supertram we have, you would have thought they would realise this a bad idea.
We had to endure years of incredible roadworks causing massive delays. We had a nice rise in our council tax to pay for it. We also had deaths and serious injuries from motorists who weren't used to driving on slippery steel rails down the middle of the roads.
they should have spent the money on proper cycle lanes like they have in Europe, making it easier and safer to cycle. At the moment you have to cycle in the bus lane. I can't believe they're going ahead with this. Shame.
At first i thought the trams were a good idea now i know the routes and how flooded the roads are going to be id rather they scrapped them.. They are running buses, trams and knowing Edinburgh i don't think many people will leave their cars at home to sit on a tram to work. best thing they could've done was build a subway system!! don't worry ill do your jobs for you.. mugs!!
Disney's had magnetic monorail trains on elevated tracks for decades, driverless and immaculate. We are so parochial and pea-brained we think we're the best wee diddy country in the world. Sadly, another huge cash cow for all the muckers of the council chiefs who line their own pockets with backhanders and give vastly overpriced support contracts to their friends - corruption gone mad. It wouldn't happen in a banana republic.
@aliwhitwell - What actually happened was the Council's Transport Committe were persuaded by the then Transport Manager that buses were far cheaper and better then trams (WRONG !). Of course you have to remember the trams by that time were completely worn out after WW2, and would have needed £massive to be rebuilt, money the Corporation did not have. If they however did find the money back then, things could have been so different today......
£50 million to replace the no. 22 bus?? and the official version is the buses will run along side the trams. Now work it out you guys with the education. Tram takes max of 250 passengers bus 52 (single decker because of low bridges en route so they send 2 every 10 minutes) Population of Edinburgh 750,000. Trams and buses, lets say 10 hours a day!!!! Answers on a postcard please????????????
i like the trams it is a good idea i agree with what they are saying edinburgh needs trams yes it taking a long time to get the depot build and the tracks but it will be good when it is done they will not give off fumes when the drop off passengers at the stops unlike buses
You pose stupid questions that need no answers. Its the Nats in power both at Holyrood and at Edinburgh council level you need to be asking. Not the U Tube viewers.
Thanks for your reply to my questions. IMHO they are people who may work for the trams and be able to answer my questions. These people are U Tube viewers. All the political parties in Edinburgh share culpa for allowing the trams to be built
You will find that only the Nats can be blamed for this going ahead. If you had read their manifesto prior to coming into office over two years ago, you will have no doubt seen that they were committed to scrapping the trams. Like most of the lying trash within their manifesto, this was ditched as their sums can never add up to their rhetoric. Its called whoring your soul for power. Wee fat Eck is the life embodiment of this fact.
I can only say again that your barking up the wrong tree. How the hell are U Tube viewers going to be able to answer political party policy questions? Also, you say all the political parties in Edinburgh?
What part of what I just posted to you did you miss? The whole essence of the SNPs manifesto was that once in power they WERE supposed to ditch the trams! Do you need this spelt out for you? In Braille maybe? Or do you really have any idea of what your trying to say?
I do not need you to repeat your post. I have grasped what your point is. I think that there is no need for sarcasim. Ihave replied to your post in a polite manner and will not accept your rude replies. I suggest that we agree to differ on the trams and leave it there
I can agree to differ on the obvious fact that you are not Scottish, not living in Edinburgh and have no real idea of politics in the Scottish environment. That much and more is clear. Not sarcasm. Just pointed facts. I speak from being an Edinburgh resident and living here all my life. The distinction should not escape even you.
You really should brush up on facts before spouting off on aspects of life you patently have no knowledge of. Happy to leave it there. Thanks.
I do live in Edinburgh and was born in Edinburgh and have an interest in politics, In my original post I only asked some questions about the trams. If no one on U tube can answer the questions then that i okay.
I still think that you replies to my posts are arrogant and extremely rude.
I have a right to ask questions and if you do not know the answers then dont post rude replies
You seem to be real stupid then or real slow on the uptake. Did you miss the part about leaving it there too? I gave you the answers you moron. Go ask your MSP! Its what they are paid for by you and me! Once again, this is the wrong forum, so stop being a dip-shit. Also save me your airs and graces on arrogance and rudeness as so far you have the monopoly.

My friend, you should look at the facts. its only ONE line, serving less than 20% of the city`s population. If it aint going to break even the poor residents of Edinburgh will pay for it through their Council Tax.
Remember its ONLY 1 line, and has ONLY 3 stops in Leith Walk, and ONLY 1 on Princes Street. Of cousre we have the God dam right to moan! Itsa waste of MONEY,a nd when it goes tits up. I ll be saying. "I TOLD YOU SO"!
Everyone that I know and have met think this whole tram thing is stupid. From people who live in Edinburgh, to people outside of Edinburgh and even tourists from the other side of the world.
I live on the outskirts and sitting on a bus to the centre sucks. anything to make that more comfortable and faster n favour off. also, only one wheelchair is allowed on 1 bus at a time and only 1 in 5 buses accept wheelchairs. trams will make the city more accessible for all.
They hold 3 - 5 times bus load (250people) and with limited stops will be fast. 3 stops on leith walk? what are current buses...4?. Studies worldwide have shown development cost will generate 10 fold business revenue as it opens up the city to outside towns. North Edinburgh will be regenerated as people see it a viable option due to the fast tram to the city centre and west.
oh you think i am pro-car! even though i am too young to drive and too skint to ever hope to drive, i rely on the buses. trams are very noisy . princes street is four lanes wide and it has all the buses for about 1 million people from the city itself and the outlying towns. if it serves all those people now but with the trams the number of road lanes for those buses will be 2 which halves the capacity but still has to serve that one million people.
this is the most expensive replacement possible for the 22 bus, after these are built about half of the buses using princes street will have to be cut and half of edinburgh does not live on the tram line
"It is a modern transport system, far better than buses." Eh?? Are you off your mind? Has anyone told you there will ONLY be 3 tramstops along Leith Walk, and ONLY 1 Tram stop on the whole of Princes Street. This modern transport system is a waste of money!
On the contrary. Edinborough's property values will skyrocket. As one becomes older and/or if someone you care about should have mobility issues in the present or in the future, tram travel will be a godsend. To say nothing of the economic benefits to area businesses.
I think its not before time we got this system, Im a bus driver but I have no qualms about the trams. To be fair, most people I speak to about this are against it, Yes, we have other spending priorities, but this should not be about the now its about the future and giving to the citizens of Edinburgh a transoprt network they can be proud of and can build upon and expand.
