In general, your advice is spot on. However, everyone's situation is at least a bit different. In particular, there are situations where coming out to parents first is a good option - where you know for certain your parents will immediately be fine with it. I'd modify your advice to suggest that people come out first to whomever they feel will be most accepting, regardless of who it is.

My quick coming out story was in a small town i told a very close friend and once that happened it spread like wild fire in 3 days everybody knew i was gay their was only 2 people that did not judge me and that was a deputy sheriff and one of my teachers both were guys because the next day they both told me they were also gay but never told anyone but after hearing a 12 year old kid come out they did 2 so i didnt only help myself but i helped 2 other people
