Well if u read the Manga and before that the Novel, Tetsuo was abandoned by his parents, then he was raped in the orphanage, and then people bullied him, put his self esteem to the floor, and he still tried to be the best he could be and didn't get emo. Then Kaneda wasn't as a good friend as he thinks he is, he makes Tetsuo believe he is a burden specially when Kaneda made the gang and became leader. People including Kaneda made him feel like a weak unwanted burden. Thats his real story.

no kaneda didnt make him feel weak, kaneda was his best friend like a brother.Tetsuo is shown as a black sheep in the gang and he quietly suffers from a deeply rooted inferiority complex. he desires Kaneda's motorcycle (a symbol of status and power) and seeks to prove himself supremely powerful, without need of protection.. kaneda teases tetsuo but ultimately shows him affection. Yamagata is the one who put tetsuo down and derides him all the time that's why tetsuo kills him

If you read the NOvel 1979, and the manga .. and closely watch the anime,. yes Kaneda did ignore and though little of him, which can affect a person mentally on how they feel. He had depression and only the obviious ways he could feel stronger (cycle). Kaneda shows him affection when it is too late, as he realized what he did, and what he should of done. Either way Tetsuo was fucked up in the head since a kid.. so yeah.
