the thing is OHM was genius in it's own way, but not in a way the chili peppers were. it's not approached in a way that appeals most people who really dug BSSM
@popomczowzow they were different people when they wrote bssm. they were in a darker state when they wrote ohm. but i think that ohm appeals more to people who dug bssm, than californication, or their later albums do. its still, hard, fast, and funky, which their later albums lack.
of course !! everyone says that but i dont think so . for me was a great cd , and nothing else matters.- was a few problems in the band but . who the fuk dont have any problem ??? i have the original cd in home and for me its a pleasure. long live peppers!!!!!
i dont really like how they smash up the drums at the end. I mean its a cool thing to do but it kinda seems like theyr copying nirvana, seeing as this is the only time ive seen them do it, and its the grunge era.
How can you not like this? Anthony Kiedis puts just as much effort in (maybe even more) as Axl Rose, and this band has escalated to new heights in recent times. They've proven to be more "solid" than nearly anyone else, and not to mention that with Flea and Anthony they are the BOMB DIGGITY.
hey guys, my name is josh, and im a 16 year old bassist. i would really appreciate it if you guys checked out my bands videos on my page and left feedback. we've been playing for about 3 years together. thanks!
I thought OHM was a good album. It may have been a different turn but it was still good. It would have been great to see Dave do another album with them. I don't know why there are so many Dave haters. Each guitarist brings there own unique style to the table and I think the last time the chili peppers ever rocked it's hardest was with Dave.
i met Dave, i was an extra on tv show & he didn't have to make eye contact, or flash me the r n r sign, but he did, & seemed very nice. and sexier in person! also shorter.
i dont understand y some people hate ohm? its an awesome album mostly made by flea even for some of the lyrics like transcending. i say anyone who hates ohm knows nothing about rhcp's music, then claims to say they like jf and hs. rhcp is not just a guitar.
for me Freaky Styley is an awesome funk rock record....but One hot minute includes the spiritual power coming from that psycodelic guitar...nice recording...but now they have a really stablished setlist...i think
wow. dave navarro playing an old chili peppers song. he didnt butcher it nearly as much as i thought he would. it was actually pretty damn good, props to dave
And people say they were bad with Navarro? Are you kidding me? This is full of life and originality! Well, it's not the normal Freaky Styley-type, but it's awesome!
An excellent video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Awesome to hear Dave Navarro playing a song like Nevermind!
I have heard all of the Chili Peppers albums, and I love RHCP. But you have to hand it to Dave for his hand in their best album (as a whole), One Hot Minute!
This is coming from someone who also likes Jane's Addiction, so some of you might feel differently.
Anyway, this is probably one of the best video's I've seen of the peppers.
Dave did a good job, I agree. However, I still think John Frusciante is a better guitarist overall, and Dave Navarro's style changed the overall sound too much.
Personally, my fave album by the Peppers is BSSM, but OHM is still a very good album.
BSSM is definitely second, and i can't stand much of their newer work because i don't really like the cookie-cutter alt-rock stuff (except Californication). But as a child of the funk, Freaky Styley is my favorite. George Clinton is un-fucking-beatable as a producer.
Freaky Styley is a great album. George Clinton did a fantastic job. Guitarist Hillel was probably at his best with Freaky Style. Love the guitar, drums, and raw funk. In my opinion Californication was the chili peppers last "good" album. And by "good," not great. Most of their newer stuff I don't like. But they still can put out some good songs.
It's weird because it seems like the Chili Peppers try to Deny their first album (self-titled) and One Hot Minute... When they were a couple of their best.
The important thing about One Hot Minute, is that it was really unique, and the critics loved it! I bought the album when it came out, but I was only in middle school. It's a great album, and it grows on you.
I agree with you how its unique. But the crititcs hated it, I love it, that albums awesome but the crritics hated it.
The two albums you mentioned were the only two Chilis albums that the critics hated. They dont play One Hot Minute anymore becuase John didnt want to play any of Navaros stuff, and why they dont play the first one,I dont know. Maybe its becuase it didnt get much succses like their other albums.
No man, I take it the story is that One Hot Minute was accepted well by critics, but not so much by the fans. I actually remember when the album was brand new, the first time I heard about the record was through a very good review... It probably was in Rolling Stone magazine.
Anyway, One Hot Minute did very well, it just didn't sell as many copies as Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
@k0stil yeah, but you've failed to mention the huge role frusciante plays in songwriting. he wrote almost all of the music for BSSM
it would have been a totally differrent album. maybe parts of some of the songs would have been on there still, but they would have been approached and expanded upon in a completely different way
His name wes Hillel Slovak. He was an original member of the band. He recorded the guitar in the second and third Red Hot Chili Peppers' albums (Freaky Stiley - 1985 and The Uplift Mofo Party Plan - 1987).

BSSM has incredible guitar work by Frusciante. Outside of that album, along with Mothers Milk, his solo albums demonstrate more of his talents.

OHM is my least faovrite to be honest and BSSM is my favorite. NAvarro changed the band too much. OHM sounds too dark.

I loved when they had Dave, especially when they played the old stuff with him. It sounded great.
And the energy here... oh baby
BistroMcSex 1 year ago
@dontbro
people dont like one hot minute cuz it was with navarro and not with frusciante.
actually flea wrote most of the album.
he wrote transcending (the music and the lyrics)
and he wrote my friends main riff on guitar.
and by the way, flea said that almost all rhcp songs have bass basics (flea writes a bass line and everybody else just adds music on it)
so one hot minute would be almost the same music if there was frusciante.
just another style.
and people would love it.
