  • "Red, I do believe you're talking out of your ass". I love this movie.

  • His facial expressions at 7.10 show what an amazing actor he is.

  • This is will probably always be one of my favourite movies :-)

  • My names is samuel , I,ve recently lost my father to to alcohol abuse for four years I watched my best friend go in an out of stoubers and a pure hell he was very sick a man alienated from his own home he died in mexico. for four years I watched him go out and in of soberness but he finally met hiss fate some nights I dream of him and only see the shell of a lost friend. Im 13, a man now but I have no one to talk to like in the past. I lost a home like Brook. Richard freedman 1958-2010

  • Sad suicidal old people that think the world doesn't give a shit about them is the only thing that can make me teary.

  • a MASTERPIECE !

  • Saddest part ever :(. this scene made me cry

  • The Shawshank Redemption + The Green Mile. That is an unstoppable motion picture powerhouse right there.

  • I love you James Whitmore!

  • Richard Honeck jail time was 1899-1963 born 1877-1976

  • I think they got this form that guy who got 68 years in jail and Richard Honeck 1899-1963

  • The best movie of all time.

  • my favourite scene of this movie. especially those whiles at the city and the suicide.

    masterpiece.

  • Amazing.

  • I normally like action or comedy movies but this movie is just amazing and this scene is just way to sad.

  • God, this is just one of the most sorrowful scene in cinema history...

  • saddest part of the movie

  • god

  • My favorite film of all time. The only film i have ever shed a tear over. And it was this scene that did it. How Forrest Gump beat this film for the Oscar i'll never know... i mean Forrest Gump was a good film by no means, but this film really reaches into your emotions.

  • " I've decided not to stay "

  • There's a lot of symbolism going on in this movie, but the goo thing is that Frank Darabont doesn't slam it down your throat. In the movie, Andy carves into the prison wall to make his escape from prison. When Brooks leaves Shawshank, he feels as if he's in a new kind of prison. Reality. Brooks carves into the wall to "make his escape". Maybe I'm analyzing it too much. Maybe I'm right. Either way, this is one piece of cinema that needs to be seen to be believed.

  • @SonicThunderBYG

Brooks also contemplated murdering someone shortly before he was released into his real world prison, but didn't. It's almost like the scene at the beginning with Andy in the car with his revolver.

    Good analysis.

  • I think you are totally correct. Its a fantastic film. Forrest Gump was a great film too, but how Forrest Gump beat this film for the Oscar... i'll never know.

  • This Eight minutes and six seconds could be it's own short film.

  • There could be a movie just about Brooks. This is definately one of my favorite movies, and one of the saddest movies in film history. Definately an incredible complement to an incredible book.

  • No better movie shows that once transported to a different world for so long, it's nearly impossible for a person to survive in "regular" society. Those who have lived their whole lives in this society can't emphasize with the person, and the person can't make sense of this society one way or another. Showing this feeling is the reason The Hurt Locker won movie of the year. This scene shows loneliness at its most personal and tragic level when there is absolutely no escape except death

  • great movie i like when narrating part freeman and whitmore. what i like about this part of the movie is that the whole movie stops for acouple min and it goes threw brooks life after hes free frm prison you just feel for brooks and wat hes goin threw

  • remenber red , . . Hope is a good thing may be the best of good things & no good thing ever dies ! . . . .

  • Damn, I wanna see this movie, just watching scenes of it, and this is one of the saddest

  • This part of the film makes me always think about the many elderly people who are so alone and have noone to help them, or even to care what is to become of them. After awhile, they give up. Just like Brooks.

  • The first time I saw this part was also the first time I had cried in years

  • This scene, which ends with Brooks suicide, has made "The Shawshank Redemption" my most favorite movie. It changed me at how to see movies. It changed me at how to see being imprisoned or being free. It changed me at how to see life or death. The scene did not just make me cry at a movie for the very first time, it changed me.

  • Greatest...Film...Ever

  • @ABCDEFGHIJKLMN01231 That's a bit of an understatement.

  • "I have trouble sleeping at night... I have bad dreams, like I'm falling. I wake up.. scared.. sometimes it takes me a awhile to remember where I am..."

"I don't like it here, I'm tired of being afraid all the time."

    "I've decided.. not to stay"

    Or something close to it...

  • i die inside but i cant seem to cry

    >:

  • so sad
