Though, I dislike the "fly-by-wire" that all newer airbus planes got. Boeing is also introducing the fly-by-wire to the 787 and 747-8 now. It kinda let's the plane steer more than the pilot.
Someone commented that both Boeing and Airbus make great aircraft. Generally, I agree with that. However, I give boeing the edge for giving the pilot complete final control over everything the aircraft does in an emergency situation. More manual control in an emergency makes a difference. And a pilot that is trained to fly the plain that way in an emergency makes a difference. Look what happened with the AF flight in 2009.
@aspiringdrummer17 I think that was his point, Had the airbus cockpit philosophy been less 'automated' maybe training procedures would have emphasized much more on the pilot's aviating skills and perhaps the pilot would have reacted better in a stall situation.... I'm say perhaps cos we'll never know RIP to all of them
Boeing builds a great product. My favorite Airplane is the Boeing 747. I have being flying in that since 1978, my last flight was last year 2010. Keep on building Boeing, you guys are great.
i used to like the b787, but infact that the seat width are became smaller and the final cabin doesnt looks really like my expectations from the boeing interior mockup i just think that A350 gonna be better
@theratfarmer All planes wings flex. You don't want rigid wings or their breaking point will be far to low and under stress will break easily or will develop fatigue cracks. Have you ever been in a glider? There wings can flex to around 60 degrees. Now that's scary! but well within their operational limits.
For those of us who complain about the delays and loss of money on the 787, (and yes, I'm guilty), I wonder how long it took the 747 to go public? Let's also remember that this is a much bigger plane, and it would be a true tragedy if we rushed deployment of the787, and Boeing can't leave anything to chance. With a plane this big, Boeing can't suffer the loss of even one plane to a crash. Let's be patient and hope they can deploy these planes with no stone unturned.
We are planing to make a special edition comparing Boeing and Airbus aicrafts, not all of them, but the main ones. Thumbs up if you want us to make one! Give us some aircraft suggestions! It might sound stupid, but is good to make a comparison, make a conclusion and compare their technical specs. What you guys think?
People complain about the delays Boeing has but on the bright side the planes dont fall out of the sky like another huge airline company whom shall not be named! :-)
Very spacious, if functional looking interior and great idea with the dimming windows. Hopefully the final product will have those few extra luxuries as it seems a bit basic right now. Should be a great airliner and addition to the Boeing family.
Alright Boeing, although I do think you're superior to all other aircraft manufacturers, you need to put screens on that aircraft. Flying gets quite boring at cruising altitude.
Can someone tell me why the crew has a rest area? How how long do they intend to fly? And why is it a crawl space and high up? Sure I don't know anything about this particular aircraft but I can say this in the event of an emergency that would be a tight spot to be in.
They have a rest are so they can rest. The 787 is supposed to replace the 767 on international flights sometime requiring more than one set of pilots. So two fly while the other two rest.
Both will probably be good planes. But A350 has some major advantages. For one it uses slightly more composite then the 787, making it lighter/more fuel efficient. The 787 however uses it`s composite in certain places that make it dangerous if the composite turn out to become weaker over many flights. This also had to be strengthened!!! during 787 test Flights so everyone is worried. The A350 offers slightly wider seats and also has lower operating cost then 787! Again a Big advantage for A350.
@EuroSon99 You are lying now. Actually the 787 uses more composites and is, by far, more fuel efficient than anything by Airbus. The 787 is the most technologically advanced airliner today, and that's a fact. Do your homework before commenting next time. :)
@Northax, "Do your homework before commenting next time"
Sorry but your mistaken. The A350 Uses 53% composites(19% Al/Al-Li, 14% titanium, 6% steel and 8% miscellaneous). This compares to the 787, which consists of 50% composites (20% aluminium, 15% titanium, 10% steel and 5% balance). The claim of it being far more advanced are also untrue. For Example: 787's development costs are 10 Billion Dollars (2007). The A350 are 12 billion Euro`s: Almost 17 Billion Dollars(2010). This reflects in tech.
The seating and walking path is certainly cramped. Looks like Airbus with their new A350 Extra Wide Body has taken a good bet by offering more space for passengers and flight attendants. Add to that the massive delays and problems in the 787 program so far and it`s not strange to see the A350 Sales so quickly catching up. ANY more delays for 787 and the A350 will surpass it before it`s even airborne. And with the terrible sales of the 747-8, it`s not strange Boeing has been overtaken by Airbus.
@RainbowManification You misread my comment. My comment is about the A350. The A350 is not yet ready to do test flights. It is not yet airborne. Everyone interested in planes knows the 787 is being test flown hence my comment about it`s problems. So the debate recently was about the test flight`s for the A350 (that have not yet started) could potentially be finished before the 787 is even officially launched (for the first costumer). Not likely but yet a growing possibility with more 787 delays.
@Brad1711, Yes but at 0.30 you can see the seats. Also check the actual background information, the A350 offers a bit more space for each passengers and flight attendants.
Once again: Just Read the information on the A350. This plane has a certain diameter. And the 787 has a certain diameter. These diameters can not be changed. These diameters allow for a certain most productive seat placement. In that configuration (most used) the A350 offers a little more space. You are really lazy to read some info aren`t you.
@EuroSon99 Once again... airlines configure their own interiors. You'll find some 744s with 250 seats, and you'll find some with 600 seats. Both airplanes are the same size. It's totally dependent on the airline and what they choose to do with it.
@LufthansaDAIGO It's called "America has the best technology in the world, and everyone is ignorant in underestimating us so much." ;)
Boeing 787 = most technologically advanced airliner in history, and Boeing is at least 5 years ahead of Airbus, even admitted by someone who works for Airbus! :-)
What an amazing flight deck, looks like a freakin' spaceship ! 'It's a great thing that Boeing didn't go for those side stick controls (unlike Airbus)
@bumbleyou im not a hater .. but Boeing is not delivering its planes on time. 4 years late in delivery of the dreamliner to the polish fleet.. 4 years! Imagine the amount of money lost by the airline. Why would they set the delivery date to 2008 when the planes were far from ready at the time... Now the delivery date has been pushed to 2ndQ of 2012.... no comment about this bullshit standard the company has set.
@Agomongo1235 Really? It's been 6 months since you posted this comment and the 787 is still plagued with problems. No issues over in France though, interesting.
Hrmmm, I thought this was the plane of the future? This looks pretty un-fun. I remember seeing concept art for this plane and being really excited about the possibility of enjoying flying again. Sounds pretty noisy - when compared to the a380. I wonder if the production models will be more silent. The smell of new plastic in there must be awesome :)
@CrazeKillen the only fail is RR trent 900 and i said that because i had the oportunity to fly with the emirates A380 from dubai to beijing and it was the most wonderful flight i have ever had.
After being a part of this freaking NIGHTMARE of a plane from the time the 1st part arrived in Everett, Wa I personally will NEVER fly on this joke of an airplane. I would change my flight plans if they pulled one of these up to the tarmac!!! I know mechanics who are building this plane who said they would refuse to fly on it.... I HATE this plane...So much the general public does not know...
@Brad1711 call it what you want. if they pulled one of those pieces of crap up for boarding, i would be asking for a different flight!!! This plane SUCKS!!!
i guess most of the ppl know, boeing builds space shuttles, and they use the same material for the planes, the material is called " tintanium alloy " the hardest and softest man-build material in the world, when you have accident and you need screw's to fix your bone doctors use titanium alloy, it's really expensive but it works.
( forgot to mention that, yes, they use plastic too ).
@kekecom It the 21st century. Boeing need to swallow their pride and switch to the side stick. I don't think the yoke will still be popular in the next 10 or 20 years. it too old fashion. i still like Boeing ,but i am seduce by Airbus. A380 and de Beluga Rocks
@dks11000 Having flown both types, I'd take a normal control column over a sidestick any day. A properly placed stick (i.e. in between my knees) is good for aerobatic stuff, but not much else.
@Brad1711 But with a side stick you'll have much more space for you legs. Also the table can be useful for the dinner plate. The yoke is too old fashion for a modern aircraft. Just my opinion >>>
Airbus has proven on multiple occasions (most recently with the A380 incident) that an aircraft does in fact need a pilot and not just a button-pusher.
If it is not an Airbus , I am going to take the bus.

@smanos03 lol! 787 has about 850 orders. A380 has 234 last I looked.

@TheElectroRama It'd be nice if Airbuses didn't nearly lose a wing as well as half their systems when an engine explodes.

@samslover See. I like how you're not being vague at all in your post, but you give real reasons as to why you feel the way you do. Very impressive.

@samslover please explain bro, how were you involved and what should we know?
bombinxile 1 year ago
@samslover Who uses the word Tarmac? Nobody that I know that's actually in industry...
Brad1711 1 year ago
@Brad1711 call it what you want. if they pulled one of those pieces of crap up for boarding, i would be asking for a different flight!!! This plane SUCKS!!!

@samslover Why?

i guess most of the ppl know, boeing builds space shuttles, and they use the same material for the planes, the material is called " tintanium alloy " the hardest and softest man-build material in the world, when you have accident and you need screw's to fix your bone doctors use titanium alloy, it's really expensive but it works.

A380 and de Beluga Rocks
dks11000 1 year ago
@dks11000 Having flown both types, I'd take a normal control column over a sidestick any day. A properly placed stick (i.e. in between my knees) is good for aerobatic stuff, but not much else.
Brad1711 1 year ago
@Brad1711 But with a side stick you'll have much more space for you legs. Also the table can be useful for the dinner plate. The yoke is too old fashion for a modern aircraft. Just my opinion >>>
dks11000 1 year ago
@dks11000 What's your level of experience?
Airbus has proven on multiple occasions (most recently with the A380 incident) that an aircraft does in fact need a pilot and not just a button-pusher.
Brad1711 1 year ago
@dks11000 One reason?
Brad1711 1 year ago
Why do you think that there is any more "plastic" than usual ? Aircraft need to be light
(ad strong, of course)

I don't care where I fly to or how expensive the tickets might be, as long as I get to fly on the 787.
