this was a great show when it first came out. I really liked the way the host spoke to his audience in a normal tone of voice and played the acoustic guitar. This original theme song was my favorite as well. The latter one was lame.

I am 39 and I remember this theme but not the newer one. If I ever have a Brownie Unit again I will teach them this song (am a leader with Girl Guides of Canada.) I wish they would re-run the show as with what's going on in the world it would be very timely.  I think if people saw the world through the eyes of children the ones most affected by war and disaster we would think about the way we handle these things.

Yeah, this is the version of the theme song that's in my memories. I loved this show, and I even had a pen-pal! She was a wonderful girl from Malaysia, whose written English was light-years better than mine. I wish I could have met her, because she was so nice in her letters.

Oh my God! Thank you for posting this! This program was so special to me when I was a child. It taught me so much about diversity and life in other cultures. Too bad this generation does not have a similar show opening up their minds. This is my favorite version of the show's song. Never liked the new one. I wish the video matched the show's intro, but hey, at least I got to hear the song as it was. This alone is fantastic!

I'm 43 and what I'm about to say might sound scripted or even a little goofy, but watching this show as a kid in the 70's made me want to travel to far away lands and even work overseas when I grew up. That's exactly what I did.

The song is from the original opening back in 1974-75., but this video is not. It seems to be a home movie shot at some pre-school.

@frtw4428 The song came off a vinyl record. Radio station copy (not for sale). The video mixed to it was a birthday party for a one year old in malibu back in 1995. Tape to tape edit. Sound was speaker to mike. Very crude. I was living in an analog world!

thank you for posting this ... it brought tears to hear this song as I remembered how cool I found this show that was so into making kids know of other kids of the world and how they lived ... I use to watch the show in Spanish in Puerto Rico; it is the reason I become an exchange student with AFS. If the show is ever broadcasted again, I hope they use the classical song.
