  • What an amazing piece this is! The brilliant suggestion of drum rolls, and bombs exploding, missiles flying is great. And the melodies have that rather Jewish qualities that some of the big Mahler march movements have. All in all, a fantastic little tone poem.

  • So not fair! The start is so deceptively easy! I was thinking I could play this, then Alkan happened.

  • Among many other things, Alkan was the master of the roll. This and his climactic roll sequence in Le Festin De Esope (which is as epic as the thick chords used by Rachmanninoff) are just amazing.
