  • actually could you just list off all the things you used to make this fly for me please?

  • Hi ShirtRIPPA83,

I'm sorry I took a day or so to get back to you, just let you know that I have listed all the materials used on the Daddy/Snatcher. I do knot the legs when I need them but I do buy them already knotted as well...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi davie, I really really like this pattern here and want to tie some. The trout go CRAZY over crane flies here in Idaho. However, the volume seems to be messed up here on this computer, so I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of hook/hook size you used, and did you tie knots in the individual strands of the pheasant tail to get that segmented look?

    Thanks for your time Davie

  • Hi, great fly, I live on the Clutha River in South Otago, New Zealand. At present we have a great number of Red dragon flies males and Yellow females mating and laying on the surface film at the rivers edge. Could I use this fly or do you recommend another.

    Respectfully yours,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

If you think it would represent the species of dragon fly then by all means try it but maybe the detached bodied Daddy I have here on youtube would be another pattern to try as it has the shape and size that will work..

Let me know how you get on...

    All the best Davie

  • This is great, so not the american way. I like.. Gran Peg♥

  • Hi davie, what sort of fly should I use if trout are rising for caenis flies? I have been told that when trout begin to take them, you may as well go home!! Thanks paul

  • Hi McBeever2k9,

When I worked at a fishery the fly I used most was a size 16 hare's ear sugar lump buzzer..The problem with a caenis hatch is that the fish feed very close to the surface and their window of sight is very small so you have to get your fly right in front of it's nose for it to make that mistake and take your fly. I just concentrated on one feeding fish until I got it, I could at least cast to it more than twenty times to get it to take the fly..

    All the best Davie

  • David great fly as always. If you get time could you possibly post a video of a dragon fly nymph?

    It would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

  • did you have an assistant for you holding the thread while you were wrapping the pheasant tail???i could have sworn i saw three hands on the film at once lol

  • Hi Davie

That is a great looking fly. When would you use the fly and how would you fish it??

    Thanks for the Great Vids

    Chance

  • Hi Chance,

This style of fly is very popular with loch fishers when fished in a team of two to three flies, this one would be more on the top dropper when fished like this. It can also be a very good dry or emeger fished on it's own..

    All the best Davie

  • one of the most beautiful flys i have ever seen, and perfect tyed as always!! thank u and greetings from austria

  • Hi Davie,

    very nice fly.

Would you use this when the Natural is on the water, when it skims across?

    Tight Lines,

    ~David

  • Hi WEESTRAWZ,

Yes I would and even if there wasn't any on the water it would work for many flies....

    All the best Davie
