  • ... if it's come to this it's time to get help.

  • Blue Bottle coffee is like warm piss.

  • His shirt is really dirty.

  • These your doing it all wrong videos are pissing me off. Maybe we like doing it that way, stop fucking patronizing us.

  • @x3ParadiseAndDreams EXACTLY. There are guidelines to simplify any process, but to say something is wrong is merely one's opinion. If people like drip coffee out of a machine with grocery store coffee then more power to them. Can it be better? Of course, but some like simple and cheap. Besides, Blue Bottle doesn't know which pot to piss in and it shows in the cup. Crappiest cup I've had on West Coast by far!

  • try doing this before a lecture you cunt

  • Also he talks about washing the cone, but he washes only the bottom part and then fills it up with water without having washed it completely.. he tells us to do something he doesn't even do, that's pretencious as fuck.

  • This method is only for coffee coffee connoisseurs. Most people do not know what good coffee is until the get all the necessary equipment. This method is meant for people who appreciate origin flavors of black coffee. If you dice your coffee with milk and sugar just go with instant. This method is for people who actually enjoy various natural flavors of coffee rather than to kick start them in the morning.

Fail: K cups, instant, preground (even lavazza) coffee, peculator (drip machine)

  • @TheRealButtcheddaa Yeah dude I didn't say anything about that. I only said he tells us to do something he doesn't do. lol

  • the simplest way to make good coffee is turkish style. you'll get passable results even with cheap supermarket blends

  • k-cups

  • wtf? i dont even drink coffee dack janiels wakes me up quicker....

  • I was just in Williamsburg and tried their coffee (Blue Bottle Coffee)... Amazing. They know what theyre talking about.

  • I can never show my folks this video. They would kill me.

  • this is actually quicker, most coffee machines take like an hour....

  • He didn't mention how fine a grind you need, and that you MUST use a burr grinder. Also neglected to mention how much water to how much ground coffee.

Good info, but only half of it is here.

  • Holy shit! If I was that ambitious I wouldn't need coffee in the first place

  • Or just use instant.

  • wrong way: "look at it... black as tar..."

right way: also black as tar.

  • Neckbeard hispter.

  • Chill with all the hipster stuff... There are WAY worse things to be than a hipster they don't hurt anybody :P

Some people want to relax with a nicely home made cup and want to know how to do that. Before watching this, my coffee kept tasting weird but I picked up a few tips and it tastes a lot better!

  • I would need a cup of coffee before doing all of this shit first thing in the morning.

  • "I like Trader Joe's filters"

    You WOULD. Hipster...

  • @artmaniac1365 If you looked up "hipster" in the dictionary, you'd see a picture of this guy. Messy hair, thick rimmed glasses, unshaven ironic beard, shops at Trader Joe's.

  • Why not just use a French press if you want your coffee fancy? It takes a lot less time, and you still look like a pretentious ass!

  • I AM old!!! The last time I enjoyed making a really good cup of coffee was in 1964 with an electric percolator! It also makes the entire house smell good! So, you have free aromatherapy in addition to your coffee. Wait, I forgot the biscuits, gravy, bacon/ sausage and eggs. Fig preserves! Hello breakfast!!

  • @Catwink41 PS: Papoo brought a flip coffee pot from Greece in 1920. It still makes better coffee than any I have had anywhere. The new ones seem to be terribly expensive. Papoo brought the pot, Yia Yia brought jasmine cuttings! YAY!!

  • ლ(ಠ益ಠლ

  • Don't listen to the haters. This is an excellent guide and very helpful to someone who just converted to drippers. Thanks for posting!

  • some people enjoy the taste of coffee and also drink coffee in the middle of the day, or after dinner. Why is everyone commenting about making it in the morning?

  • DUDE...diner taste is nostalgia...theres nothing wrong with that...sometime tastes isnt always about being "right"..its about having the way you like it...some of the food we ate as a child might not be all that impressive or its from a little food stalls...but sometimes those are amazing memories that we crave...dumbass with all these pretentious shit...

  • This channel, "Chow", is the most pretentious group of assholes ever.

  • 45 minutes later...

  • this man is a cofee head

  • 01:06 the hipster in you totally came out xD

  • this guy is a total tool.

  • LOL @the bottom of his shirt :p

  • i wake up, i make coffee , TEH WRONG WAY, and head out, if i to it TEH RIGH WAY, i will be late, THANX CHOW

  • is there a problem with liking coffee black?

  • I don't care if I use a coffee pot, i put a ton a creamer in there to cover the taste anyway.

  • this guy needs to read Get In the Kitchen Bit@hes.... and he'll learn how to at least act cool, whey showing how to make coffee

  • If it takes that long to make the right kind of coffee then fuck it, i'd rather have my dirty tap watered stale bean black as night coffee and to make it my low quality half assed coffee maker that i named bob

  • They both look black as tarr its black coffee no ones gunnna buy this crap just to make a small cup of freaken coffee i can go up the street to dunkin donuts and get a donut and coffee taste the same

  • How about i run to a 7 11 or something and grab a coffee... now that would take me 2 to 4 extra minutes not this.

  • i think u would need coffee just to make coffee the right way!

  • Wow. Why is everyone such a hater? This is someone teaching you to make a better cup of coffee and all you can do is bitch. I work early and do this every morning. It doesn't take that long at all!

  • If you're an employed American that's a 2 to 4 extra minutes you don't have.

  • Okay, at a certain age (yours), it's really important not to sport a 5 year old's overgrown haircut, and it's important to practice good grooming of the facial hair (create borders). Wow, so annoying, nobody wants to look at that.

  • @domesticjoyable how old are you? finding current fashions and (I'm extrapolating here) music to be bad or unpleasant is a sign you're too damn old.

  • at 0:39 the coffee looks verry delicious thump up if you wanna drink them too

  • Ahaha the bottom of his shirt is all dirty :p

  • Very nice!

  • I have no complaint with my drip coffee maker. If you don't like the taste why not have a cup of tea instead.

  • if this guy is obsessed with coffee.. why does it look like he just woke up?

  • @blindxstr That's the caffeine resistance that's buildung out over the years of coffee obsession. Perhaps.

  • @blindxstr

Because he may be obsessed with coffee, but he's not obsessed with looking sharp.

  • thanks for the informative video! i don't have time to make coffee this way every day, but when i do, i savor it and enjoy it all the more ^^

  • It all looks very nice but for over 30 years for me..its good ol Chock full o Nuts , Peet's , or Cafe Bustelo... I DO give the paper filter a rinse though...I saw them doing it in Brazil which has among the BEST coffee I have ever had !!

  • get yours at coffee logic

  • seriously tho what average person and note the average person now adays cant really afford ALL these luxuaries has these? and why would you spend so much and take so much time for a cup of joe? PLUS i mean come on a cup of coffee is a cup of coffee we just want to wake up and get through the day..which means waking up by a drink not the labor of making a drink

  • @dredded91 and note I AM 12

  • @dredded91 that's his job, son, don't bitch so much about it, it really only takes a few minutes more if you prep shit beforehand, you'll get a much better cup of coffee and that's what he intended to show you -_- if you have such a problem with a bit more stuff to do, buy a fucking machine (or rather, let your parents buy one)...

  • I'm sure that coffee tastes great and is super fresh but honestly unless I want to get up 20 minutes earlier every day it's pointless. I make coffee to help me wake up so having it all set and ready drink by the time I'm showered is better than doing all of that. And I think saying that would 2 to 4 minutes is a huge exaggeration considering this video was 2 1/2 minutes long and had cuts throughout the whole thing.

  • @jeshaw3242 2 to 4 minutes longer, as in, 2 to 4 minutes IN ADDITION to the time it takes to run a pot through the drip machine

  • I love homemade coffee, but my machine lay dormant until coffeeloverstipsandtricks (.) com plugged me in!

  • mmmmmmmmmmmm fuck that

    french press

  • honestly just use a French Press...

  • I drink that shit for the fucking (and bitter) coffein.

If the it is not bitter and no coffein in it, i would never be so foolish to drink some bean-water-juice.

  • You're a quite nice guy to be in this channel, dude.

  • Wow, this is really interesting! Thanks for the video!

  • Petty, you lost all that lovely crema

  • I love the people commenting on this video. No one takes time to appreciate the finer things in life. If you spend extra time on a basic activity, it can become a luxury rather than the same old shit.

  • @gamemeister27 you know, you are very right!! japanese zen pratitioners believe that every routinary activity is an opportunity for Zen meditation and can be turned into a challenge to make it better every time. Zen meditation consists on emphasizing on attention to achieve satori (enlightment). They have rituals developed over centuries to achieve the best quality out of, for example making tea, having a meal, sweeping and mopping the floor, etc. It makes sence.

  • @eldruidacosmico Maybe if I practiced liked I preached I would live longer, ADD tends to get in the way of that though.

  • @gamemeister27 I agree people think of others who spend so much time on one thing to perfect it lame and other things I think this place is missing a lot of this kind of attention myself... Like Breaking Bad. Please I employ people to watch that one episode maybe then they'll see just how much difference the right temp and chemical balance it takes to make things so much better in this world. All it takes is ones time and patience and you have yourself the best cup of Joe you will ever taste.

  • Fuck that. My drip shit works fine, i dont have time in the mornings

  • i guess I've been so use to that stale coffee taste its all i want now ;)

  • I found this very helpful. I hope they do one on making toast as well.

  • So when you have to wake up everyday at 5 or 6 am for work, you expect people to go through that process just to make a damn cup of coffee?

  • After you watched this

    you probably hate this person

  • well I think its best if u don't drink coffee like I don't that way u have a time for a quickie in the morning :D

  • thanks arno - i was doing it wrong.

  • " HOW TO MAKE COFFEE LIKE A PRETENTIOUS DOUCHE" - CHOW

  • wow, i'm glad the gay fag can afford all this. us poor people can't afford half the shit he said you need to have. poor little baby can't stand poor mans coffee, fucking fag can take it up the ass

  • Stirring around with spoon will give all the undesirable, strange taste. To get a nice clean coffee taste, you are supposed to pour moderate amount of water in spiral shape and not overload it. I would never waste any of my coffee with this. If you don't have enogh time to make a good cup of coffee, what else do you have time to do?

  • Comment removed

  • I like how he describes the bad coffee as "black as tar" but his cup of coffee is darker than even mine come out.

  • I've always preferred this method. I does taste better. BUT: I cheat. First off...I only do this to make myself a single mug of coffee. I buy little (3-5 mug) packs of pre-ground coffee, and I boil the water IN THE LIQUID MEASURING CUP, in the microwave. While boiling, I rinse the paper under the sink.

FAR much less time than the methods in the video. (no offense, Mr. Holschuh.) I will say, though: Grinding your own beans is great, if you have the time.

  • my solution=not drink cofe at all as i do!

  • Yes, "automatic" usually is bad! Wrong temperatures, plastic parts usually don't work well with coffee. Better do drip coffee in a shortlife disposable plastic filter cone, make sure the plastic is some crap made in China! After some months throw it away and buy a new one. Anyway, less plastic is better!

One problem in making coffee in most countries is how the beans are roasted. In USA they usally do it extremelly wrong. Roaster should let the air circulate so toxins get out!

    Espresso FTW!

  • what the hell is this guy doing:|? its like kids playing in a sandbox or sth...turkish coffee or espresso ftw imo :)

  • it stopped at 0:04 and he looked like a retard.

  • Right!!! DING

  • Dude, wash your shirt! What the heck did you do? That is disgusting and not professional

  • @MarkusAlex he's probably been working all day.

  • OMG 1:08

    that face is HIDEOUS

  • 2 to 4 extra minutes my ass.

  • this is an excellent video, well done

  • Um Chow , You're doing it all wrong!

  • lol

  • rinsing the filter does help a bit

  • 2 to 4 extra minutes my ass that will take you an xtra 45

  • i know, me too.

  • actually i like pressing my coffee. essentially, you do everything the same, except instead of letting the coffee drip, you squeeze it through the filter after a minute or so of being soaked in the water. only makes one cup at a time if you have a small press, and it uses a lot more beans, but the coffee tastes incredible.

  • a good comparison for drinking old stale coffee... its like eating stale bread that's been remoistened in the sink.

  • As an organic chemist myself, you dont, just enthusiastic, and tbh if you are that enthusiastic about coffee you wouldnt be drinking drip coffee at all.

  • thank god for you. I have tried explainging this to friends and they still insist that it is "fine2 some even dain to drink instant *shudder*

  • 40 grams is around 3 tbsp for 9 oz of water, equating to 2 tbsp per 6 oz though, which is what some other people recommend though. Anyway, I bought one of those devices after seeing this, cheap, easy, works well and transportable, ticks all my boxes.

  • To repeat CantankerousDave, 5 tbsp for 10 z is 3 times what most people recommend. Further 5 tbsp is 70 grams not 40.

  • i love me a nice cup of folgers and a cigarette in the morning

  • Oh great, Do this in the morning, when your eyes are barely open. I use this machine for tea. Coffee is made by an espresso machine. :)

  • How to make coffee like a pretensious douche!

  • here in Central America, we use alot of grain coffee, much better than that powder, once u take it once, u take it always.

  • great video, I'll try this. I've seen those drip holders but had no idea how to work them. stiring the coffee makes sense.

  • using hot plate or something is definitely wrong, I agree.. but why do we stir during dripping? cuz once your filter got wet, it doesn't drip well...

  • man i agree that sucks i like to go old school and use storebaught coffee and a drip coffee maker like albob12345

  • ok well just to ask where do you get the coffee from?

if its trader joes get the one i forgot the name but it has a pecan i think its called the bird

you can ground it there if you didnt know

  • People who go to Starbucks are socially retarded.

  • Ya know what JLP228 lets disagree on that subject matter. I go to starbucks for quick crappy coffee, AKA creamy caffeine. I'm not retarded just sleepy...

  • Eww filter coffee. Give me a freshly ground espresso or latte in the morning. Especially since it is so cheep to buy a coffee machine.

  • wow i love how he says "this is black as tar" and then at the end of the video he shows some of his coffee and that looks more like tar.

  • delicious-looking tar, though.

  • wow, i tried this for mothers day, and totally ruined it with this method.

  • whose got time to do all that...

  • Wow! I'll definitely have to try this!!! =D

  • There are actually good quality machines out there that does a fine job. Yes, you have to pay a bit, but they are way better than those little toy things that they sell on gas stations.

  • Does it take so much just for a simple coffee?

  • obviously this is not for everyone. most people just treat coffee as a way to get caffeine into their system, which is fine. they wont go through the trouble. but for some people who appreciate coffee as a fine beverage, this is the best way. i personally use a chemex pot and always buy freshly roasted beans, but i wouldnt expect others to go to the lengths i do for a cup of joe.

  • Very hot water, okay

    Filtered water, okay

    fresh coffee beans...

    stir, stir, stir

and dont forget to rinse off that Trader Joe's paper flavor.

Okay, MAKE SURE YOU WAKE UP EXTRA TWENTY MINUTES TO MAKE THAT ONE CUP OF COFFEE.

    THE END~!

  • Comment removed

  • I agree, but that it takes 2-4 minutes longer not twenty :]

  • i like diner coffee, so what if it has that strong rich taste. im a man and do manly things :P

  • That showed me that I'm doing only half-right until today - damn, I sold my coffee machine in 2007 cause I brew only drip coffee since then. It's much more delicious!

  • Amazing recipe

  • The water temperature should be 197 - 205 degree, because otherwise it wont produce the right flavours.

  • lol

  • Goooood stuff. That is helpful. Thanks =)

  • still as black as tar!!!

  • very true.

  • guessin it tastes betta though

  • yea i know!

hahaha, idk no if it taste good tho!

  • 0:09

    THAT IS WAT SHE SAID!!!!!

  • You're only missing a "HOW TO MAKE HASHISH" episode... :)

  • If you buy a water heater then you save a lot of time.

  • I wonder if I could get my wife to make coffie this way from now on?........ She said if I wanted it that way to get up erlier and do it my self : (

  • "It totally changes your day" - It's pretty sad if a cup of coffee can "totally" influence your day.

    Get a life dude

  • Yeah. Instead of trying to improve coffee, he should criticize YouTube videos. ;)

  • Improve coffee: YES, totally agree!!

Make silly claims that a cup of coffee will "Totally transform your day": NO, Fucking pathetic

If you think it will transform your day then your life probably isn't worth living.

  • When I have a really good cup of coffee in the morning, I tend to have a more positive outlook/attitude. When I have a bad cup of coffee, I tend to have a negative outlook/attitude.

I haven't tried this yet, but if it makes a considerable difference, I can see what he means by transforming your day.

  • you're obviously not a coffee addict

  • Actually I am, (I use 2lbs of lavazza red, super fine, in my Alessi coban every week) You seem to be missing my point:

If you think a cup of coffee will transform your day then your life probably isn't worth living.

  • he's just making use of hyperbole to express a better degree of quality in daily living. i think it's sadder and more pathetic that people believe some invisible father in the sky will transform their lives, but that's one opinion, which i don't go around pushing on people by saying their lives "aren't worth living" that's so stupid and callous.

  • haha, i knew you were a religious type- so predictable. i would make some argument back, if i cared more, and i didn't feel so sorry for you because the world has outgrown your kind. if you weren't a pathetic relic from a brutal and unreasonable human history, consoling yourself with superstition and self-righteousness. good luck with the afterlife, and the coffee too.

  • aha! and i win. thanks, freak, i feel great!

  • lol, this is the worst piece of pseudo logic I've ever read.

  • i WANT SOME O_O

  • ... and you are already late for work :D

I really doubt that, this wil take 2-4 minutes ... but in the weekend ... :D
