it could have been something as simle as too much shimmy if someone did the instal wrong. but that sucks either way, what size did u have in it, 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10?
I munched a spider gear in my '84 Mustang just pulling away from a traffic light - not going fast at all. If I just gave it a little gas some of those busted gears would get trapped just right and the car would lurch and drive until I got off the gas. Then I'd have to repeat the process. I knew I was making it worse, but I also knew that I wanted to replace the open rearend with a limited-slip anyway. So I let it eat shrapnel for the couple of miles home and put in a LS the next weekend.

must have been putting down some power to break a 8.8
