  • My bad, they believe it was a BROWN Hyena, not Striped. lol But either way, they believe it was a Hyena.

  • I guess other people already looked into this very exclusively and came to the conclusion that it was a (Striped I believe?) Hyena that had been shipped in privately by the guy who then shot the beast and becamefamous for it. He taught it to kill, more or less like a military dog, and then got a huge reward for killing the beast with a silver bullet. Pretty clever if you ask me.

  • Animals hunt for food. They are saving as much energy as they can - so if it was normal animal with some family and hungry - it is supposed to eat/bring loot back home.

  • i honestly think the creature was either a serial killer, or some sort exotic animal, because it it was a local creature there would be more of them in order to sustain itself

  • it was already proven to be a hyena and a man. if you want to know the story its on history channel. (no it isnt monster quest) and it is possible for it to be a hyena so for future reference dont tell me hyenas arent native i know that. they were shipped there back then. thank you goodbye. :)

  • Hmm... Very intriguing XD.

  • Cryptozoology novel see video book trailer

  • It was probably a large dog trained to kill people. . . .

  • It could have been Amphicyon (Bear-Dog) it was about as big as a small horse and it had a wolf-like appearance but had huge claws like a bear. Or it could have been hyeanodon or some other "Extinct" Beast

  • o3o why did she have a lance with her?

  • All dogs wolves, bears, fox, etc were all part of the same family, it could be a large well fed wolf, remember the people were only about 4-5ft tall then, and would attack on their own. And dont forget, folk law and stories change or are exaggurated,

  • actually it killed only 102 people. the first was 14 year old jeanne boulet, who was killed on june 30th 1764. the attacks ended after the beliked beast was shot on june 19th 1767 at 10:15 o´clock.

  • well it isn't in london. so it can't be a werewolf. :3

  • The statue looks similar to a Hyenodon.

  • An animal not a murderer it was just eating.

  • 'Darlings' means he is talking to the audience/viewers. What is up with you DarthDarksilver?

  • The old geezer is kinda ridiculous...

  • God, this show is terrible.

  • it was a werewolf XD

  • It's a red panda! like sifu from Kung Fu panda

  • what's wrong with him saying darlings????

  • It's the Arenotelicon - a creature so obscure its name cannot be found in any modern dictionary. Even Tolkien never defined it.

  • @Pilaf1984 yeah a werewolf isnt like that

  • god this bastard fucking creapy

  • This guy is soo fuking corny,

  • What so bad about him saying Darlings??? i'm from Tasmania and why would that creep you out.......Darling?

  • its scary

  • i love the story of the Beast of Gevaudan, i'd love to know exactly what it was

  • well thats true that some of us who like this type of stuff but i can bet u if they make a investigation of animals that exist and they can prove or evidence something more people will watch this if u take a look always the never get evidence or proves that this things ever exist

  • he is really creepy and the music is too

  • i saw a show thet they said the guy that killed the creature took it to the king he orderd it to be put in a museum and people went to look at the skeloton and it was a hyena

  • @Icy2429 IS THAT TRUE?

pmsl im being told by mr darwin lookalike its a friigin beast....yeh a hyena would fit the bill because if you had never seen one before then all of a sudden theres this snarling drooling hyena behind you ofcourse it would look like a beast,it could even of been a wild HOG...but as far as these storytellermedia people are concerned at least they TRY to make it believable lol

  • @MrKlyber a hyena does sound plausible exept that I have a hard time believing that someone could train a hyena to eat only the entrails when hyenas on the sevanna even eat the teeth on a kill. dogs on the other hand eat the entrails first.

  • @PaleoRAS it could have been a surviving asian hyena

  • My darlings " ? I'm an Aussie and even i'm cracking up :D My darlings " lol

  • that guy is so creepy, I love it!

  • I doubt the beast was a cat or hyena. In the show The real Wolfman the detectives immediately dismissed it as a spotted hyena. However, spotted hyenas aren't terribly big, have small tails and don't have white bellies. Most likely it was a wolf/dog hybrid trained by a madman to hunt and slaughter everybody it saw.

  • @Psythr666

My suspicions exactly (did I spell it right?) ; most likely it was a really big hybrid canine that got loose and went feral.

  • where did the girl get a lance to fight off the beast? Was she carrying one because of the beast or something.

  • That old guy kinda creeps me out :S

  • I think it was likely a murderer killing using a monster, it makes no sense if it was a man in a wolfskin, people would've noticed, and it's very unlikely it was a bear, too big and much too slow

  • like hound of the baskervilles? lol

  • i dont like him calling me 'darling'. -.-'

  • "My darlings"??!

  • Sounds like an Andrewsarchus, they looked like wolves, were the size of a cow, and out competed Terror Birds, but they died out 36 millions years ago when weather patterns changed.

  • the stuffed body of a hyena from the 18th century is in the warehouse or safe room of the natural history museum of france. their are actually 3 bodies, 2 are spotted hyenas and 1 is a striped hyena. they were imported from north africa as pets. and hyenas can weigh over 200 pounds

  • why does the presentator talk sooo laim

  • "big as a cow and claws?" can't be a bear, could it? do they get bears around their areas?

  • nevermind lol

  • They found out it ws a trained spotted hyena

  • hyena`s cant b tamed

  • @cheeseomatic5 : According to Wikipedia, spotted hyenas are in fact easy to tame and to train. I was surprised too!

  • not evrything on wikipedia is true

  • the hyenas have 34 theeths(pardon bad english) and the "wolves" killed had 40 and something....

  • Is it possible La Bete was a hyena crossbreed?

  • That is only a theory, as is every take on La Bete. It is very likely we will never know what La Bete truly was; all we can do is examine the evidence it left behind and infer possibilites.

  • apparently only 60 deaths can be proven

  • what's with the techno background? O.o

  • Thanks so much for sharing this.. I'm hooked!

  • red fur and a long tail with a white stripe on its chest, sounds alittle like knuckles from the sonic universe

  • @SonkleyFiz indeed XD

  • isn't there a movie about this beast? I think it's called "Brotherhood of the wolf"or something like that

  • Yep. One of my favorite movies, lol.

  • yeah it is.... wickedly awesome

  • Yeah there was, and it sucked! It does the true story no justice.

  • clearly this is my xgf's vagina

  • ...I haven't seen this show in years ever since they took it off the air on Animal Planet...it was my favorite cryptozoology show...im glad i found it again :)

  • its like monsterquest they never find anything!!!!!!

  • @kyleintheair

well if they did it would be be a couple hundred years old so I'd HOPE it wasn't around for them to find

  • *gasp * im his darling?!

  • wat kind of murderer dresses up in a fucking animal costume and kills people like wtf

  • the kind that never get caught! lol i'm that good. >: ))

  • i think its that old guy he sure looks guilty

  • This guy never fails to crack me up, Lol. What a crock of BS.

  • Best narrator EVER.

  • Oh, man I miss this show.

  • Scary

  • in france we're pretty much sure that la bete du gevaudan was a yene

  • what's a yene?

  • I don't know how you call it in english, it's a big african animal that hunts in group

  • um...i'm not sure that hyenas hunt in packs, then again i don't know much about hyenas.

  • i believe they do. but smallish packs. they are still canines.

  • its a mistake => hyena

  • hyena.

  • The discription he gives sounds alot like a Cave Lion (extinct), not a wolf... It even had a tuft at the end of it's tail which lions have.

He never actually even says whether or not she mentioned it being wolf-like...

    -Tomm

  • in this book i read, it said that the monster was a giant turtle lawl

  • the narrator is shit

  • Thatz true i often heard the story.

And there was a film about that in cinema.

    Called: Packt der Wölfe

  • wtf is with that spider thing in the intro

  • it has to be an animal coz u cant just escape a seriel killer i mean they will run and catch u !

  • I think a wolf looking animal like that would have a bigger chance of catching someone than a human murderer.

  • I miss this show

  • so the thing is dead?

  • Yeah,id say its dead

  • hah haaaaa yeah LIGER..... but there is actually significant proof about this and they actually caught one giant wolf and stuffed it

  • were'd you see the giant stuffed wolf???

  • anyone actually know a show that shows actual fricken legendary monsters or aliens or timetravellers anything god dam!

  • I don't mind this show, it's simply entertainment. But that narrator they have gets on my nerves. He speaks like he is starring in a Vincent Price movie.

  • w/e a lion or tiger ?

  • liger

  • oh I see a combination in between the tiger and the lion, most interesting how its double the size of his parents,

  • yes haha

  • apperently because they don't occur naturally they lack the gene that tells them to stop growing

  • Yes, apparently this is only possible by artificial insemination in laboratory, I think man playing God is not very moral, but thou is very interesting, and this interest fuels mankind to do such things, I wonder how far will man go....

  • it just sounds like a lion

  • thes fucking shows suck they NEVER find ANYTHING

  • a little harsh but so true

  • when he uses the word "Darlings", it absolutely creeps the shit out of me. I think he's going to rape us all :''(

  • i know

  • @DarthDarksilver OLHELL NOT ALL OF US

  • @DarthDarksilver i dont think so, but youre right whit the creeps! *shudder*

  • THIS IS SO WONDERFULLY STUPID XD

  • I think it was Gary Glitter.

  • i don't get it this show was awesome.

WHERE THE HELL DID IT GO!!!

  • I did some research about prehistoric animals from France, and I found a species of Hyaenodon lived in France, and Hyaenodon ranges from 60cm long, to about 3 metres, putting it in the size range, so, the creature could possibly be a surviving Hyaenodon...

  • i think it was a pig...

  • its sonic the werehog XD

  • PAEDO!!!!

  • That old guy is such a paedo

  • Some of us don't care if it's real or not, just enjoy the story. Don't ruin it for those of us who like this type of stuff.

  • yeah i only watch this stuff for the story ifs fun to watch

  • Charming...little fella aint he?

  • Could it have been ape or bear? Bears are big as cow and have claws as large as a man's hand? Or mad wolf or dog who trained to attack?

  • nah this beast has been around for centuries and its of the wolf nature, two have been killed one being a large grey wolf assumed to be it and another supposedly killed not sure on the details

  • definably not a ape. You could bee right bout the bear, but remember, bears don't have the long tail the beast had. And the local people would be familiar with what a bear was and looked like. I personally don't know what to make of it.

  • that old guy looks like my art teacher. anyway i love this show. along with destination truth and ghost hunters

  • You, my friend, have good taste in televised entertainment

  • yup i know. lolz

  • Is this where beauty and the beast come from?

  • awesome show + corny music= fuck yeah!

  • To me this is a more adult version of of Mystery Hunters

  • ah i remember that on discover chanell be4 cinemagic. i remember goin home from school and watching it

  • dood the old guy looks like my dad

  • He said with fur at the end of the tail. It could have been a species of a jungle lion. I mean come on, this is a 250 year old mystery?? Logging, poaching and invasion of habitats aren't even widespread back those days.

  • The beasts are possibly crosses between a Wolf & a Dog. Interbreeding mutates genes creating offspring larger than either both of its parents(like the Liger). + wolves are afraid of humans now, but genes from the dog may counter the fear & get the beasts to approach humans.

  • i've read a lot about the beast, none of these explaination really satisfy me. It killed way to many people to be the work of a wolf or serial killer in a wolf suit. I believe it was a wolf/dogs-possibly trained by human masters to kill- but tthe killing stopped after specific animals were shot. Wolves were the real victims though,a lot of people though it was a wolf, and many were shot, but the killings continued until(As I've stated) a specific animal(s) were shot. maybe they were just wild?

  • it's hyeanodon !!!! or andrewsarchus... andrewsarchus lived in asia not in france and they say "claws size of an human hand" and andrewsarchus's an hoofed animal so i think is an hyeanodon!!!

  • animal x is the shizzit, i love watching animal mysteries. thanks for the upload!

  • It's a mesonychid. Google it (images) you'll see what I mean.

  • You mean an ancient creauter is still alive?

  • It was, since the Beast is dead now.

  • If it ate entrails, it would be a shit eater.

Shit eaters quickly become shit heads that soon run for public office.

  • It were not a wolf.

  • you know it just might be a werewolf :| cuz there arent any records of Phycopaths in france

  • rasist? racist!

    u call this racist?

    *LOL*

  • all u need is arnie...the governator...he killed the predator...

  • you think it was a werewolf?

  • don't french wolves eat baguettes, crepes and that kind of stuff?

  • LAWL. No, only the French humans. =)

  • A mesonychid. Ask any cryptozoologist.

  • That's interesting.

  • Ok.. it was as BIG AS A COW covered with RED FUR...

  • sounds like a fox-wolf with a tatse for people to me

  • In my opinion, this is the most interesting mystery in cryptozoology.

  • I agree.

  • No, that would be mothman.

  • and in cause of doing revenge to the "devil species woman" he had the iedea of the trained dog he had. a special race of wolf like species. very rare in france and this time. so the idea was born and he just had to training the animal and had his weapon against the bad womens...

  • there was a man who owned a wolf like dog species and trainied it to attack. he didn´t gave the animal any food for days and captured the beast in captivity. in evening (mostly) he let it run and because of the training, where he used human blood the beast learn to eat human meat. and so the beast run for humans. and all this because this man were angry about womens. because he never found a girl friend. every woman laugh him and injured his feelings. so he become a woman hater.

  • There were two beasts, though.

  • it could be a droameosaurid dinosaurs/ raptors because they had feathers, and raptor feather would have looked just like mammal hair the the face would have looked like that of a wolf, don't belive watch "when dinosaurs roamed america" it's on now, just be sure that it has the initials "DC"

  • A) Dinosaurs are extinct

    B) As far as I know, there are no dromeosaur species native to France. Velociraptors lived in Mongolia, whereas deinonychus, Utahraptor and Dromeosaurus lived in North America

  • A) Dinosaurs are not completely extinct, crocodiles made it somehow. So, Velociraptor+continental drift= hello Europe!

  • A) Crocodiles are not dinosaurs. B) A necropsy was performed on the animal before it decomposed and was buried; it was not a reptile or a giant bird, it was a red furred canid. If a giant turkey with killer claws attacked the populace, they would have described it as a killer bird, and not a big canid.

  • Pyroraptor lived in France

  • thank you

  • Your welcome

  • @ceitiosaurus

Only dromeosaurs alive today are birds. I doubt a bird would dress up in a wolf costume and chase people around.

  • @Psythr666 I'm talking about a regular dromaeosaurid dinosaur like a velociraptor, utahraptor, or pyroraptor. If a relic population survived and if people mistook them for werewolves because their bipedal wolf-like appearance!

  • @ceitiosaurus

There is no evidence of surviving bipedal dromeosaurs, even though the fossil record is flawed. The only raptor native to France was Pyroraptor Olympius, but those where the size of a small dog. A pack could take down an Iguanodon, but the biggest thing a single raptor could take down was probably a small sheep or goat. Humans aren't exactly tasty on the wild menu, you know? ( not cannibal, but sharks hate human flesh.)

  • I remember when I saw this episode on TV here in Norway . They found out that it maybe was a hybrid of Wolf and dog who was trained to kill of some rich people . They thought it was a wolf first, but it couldn't be that . After that, they found out more about the hyene, but, no . I love that episode . < 3

  • This is not to say that wolves haven't bitten anyone. Habituated wolves have bitten people. It's the killing people part that I take with a great deal of skepticism. They do kill dogs and other domestic animals, but they are largely paranoid when it comes to people. And judging from the behavior of wolves in the New World, before persecution, wolves were not afraid of people. But they weren't predators of people. They were curious animals that were easily dispatched with knives.

  • We cannot see into the past.

  • Including you.

The best we can do is see the records.

  • I doubt it was a wolf. Wolf attacks, unless from rabid animals, are urban legends and frabications. Two exceptions: wolves in India killed some children recently and the garbage wolves in Canada that killed that guy. But in general, most wolf attacks are nothing more than urban legends, attacks from rabid individuals, or from wolf hybrids with domestic dogs. The historical record can't be trusted either, because these people also believed in werewolves.
