I´m preparing a non-profit exhibition about 3/11 - the earthquake and tsunami that hit the east coastline of Japan almost one year ago.
My main focus is the damages of the city, Onagawa. I saw your video, "New Tsunami Video: Onagawa engulfed by high water - Japan Earthquake 2011 [stabilized]", and I would like to ask you, if I can show this video during my exhibition?
I feel so bad for your people , this can happen anyplace - now we know this , the video speaks to the world , I pray for the people - please move away from radiation , buy imported food and drinks , If I lived in the area , I think I might become a Drunk for my mind would not be right - so so sad :( QC
at 1:52 secs there is a person on a roof?? in the middle of the raging torrent!!! I would find it hard to believe they could have survived,,,,BUT miracles do happen,,,,and they certainly needed a miracle!!!!! Bless them.....
stop eating raw fish and do horrible, immoral things to animals, just go vegetarian, and these disasters should have never come to you in the first place. You reap what you sow, Japan. It's the collective karma that counts.
@bta1987 That's a horrible and evil thing to say. Hundreds of thousands of people dying and in desperate need of help, towns and villages ripped apart, yet you have the nerve to say they all deserve it just because they eat fish? Should America be struck by earthquakes and tsunamis for eating meat? Some people of Japan may treat animals horribly but don't you dare try and make Japan seem like the only guilty country.
One reason for so many deaths is undoubtedly the lack of tall buildings of masonry and many low buildings of wood. If ever you are in a similar situation, do as the camera man, if there are no mountains nearby or very distant one, between the highest-resistant construction to find even if you have to break down the door with a kick, and climb the top floor.
There is another video of this town, also on YouTube, in which you can see the building this video was shot from, as well as the brick building next to it, several days later. It was shot by a member of a team doing a survey of damage.
I usually thumbs down reposting of videos but, in this case, you took your time to deshake the source and even give some aditional info. I miss the original video link though.
At 1:07 you see people running across the pedestrian overpass between the two parts of the brick building.
At 2:35, you see this same gap between the buildings now a raging torrent as the tsunami water goes blasting back into the ocean. The pedestrian bridge is gone; the gap is packed with huge pieces of buildings being smashed to pieces.
I think if I watched something like this happening I'd be in a daze of shock and disbelief for days afterwards. And grief.
Such incredible devastation. At least Japan is prepared for this, the out come could have been similar to the Indian Ocean earthquake of 04 if they were not.
Just got back from Onagawacho where this video was taken. The person taking the video had to be above at least 20m to survive, that's 60 feet or 6 stories. Absolutely amazing the destruction that occurred to this town.

This footage is unbelievable. You can see the water go over the roof of the four story building across the street.
