  • I just rediscovered these books not too long ago. And they are super creepy when you think about it. This is as well. They only hinted at the incest in the very beginning (the relationship between their parents) but did not continue it between the siblings. Why? More mass appeal maybe, but it's still a horrible thought.

  • i just finished reading the novel

  • I'm sorry but Chris & Cathy are a bit too old here.

When their dad was still alive, they were like 9 & 12, not 16 & 19.

  • I don't wanna sound critical, but this isn't as amazing as the books 3:

  • My sister and I loved this movie when we where little...in a weird of the wall witch in the wordrobe way.....havnt seen it in so long..I'm in my thirties...this is a classic

  • I just realized she was from Big Daddy! haha

  • Chris is hott!

  • Read that when i was at camp Woodcliff in Connecticut summer 1981. I adored it there but that book stills haunts me till this day. This book and the ones that followed...The Howard Shore score on the movie is brilliant

  • i love this movie even though it may be sad in ways ...:)

  • Wow, more kids these days need a grandma like that! Speak when spoken to should ALWAYS apply to kids in public!!!

  • That's just wrong. On so many levels.

  • This book was so fucking good!!!!!

  • I guess its just me but i love the movie way more than the book :c

  • love this movie .. Thanks :)

  • In my opinion, if you haven't read the book, this is a movie with a good plot. If you have read the book, you know this is the worse movie EVER. It doesn't even get close to the taboo topics of the story.

But make no mistake I could see myself liking this movie if I never read the book. I want a remake though. With the smut on tv now, incest shouldn't be hard to capture.

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616 I agree with you about the book, but this movie just enjoyable to watch either way.

  • this movie makes me uncomfortable

  • @luvcandycane8 evryone says that she sleeps with her dad n then sleeps with chris but ive read the book on my kindle, i dont get why that wasnt in my book unless they have a more apropiate version on amazon thats where u buy the books for ur kindle thanks for tellin me :)

  • @bella14xx re-read the freakin book and get your facts right!!!

  • play the movie

  • y u all sayin that chris n cahy have sex in book?? they didnt n cathy defo wernt sleeping with her dad

  • I Hate how they didn't make Cathy and Chris lovers. I think that's a huge part of the book and u connect with the characters so it's not that messed up. I want to become a director so I can remake this movie

  • @classyandfabulous94 thank goodness they didn't!! he raped her and they still made it out to be a love story@!

  • Use this tag (yt:crop=16:9) in your videos to get rid of "windowboxing" (the black border around your video)

  • Father: Josh Lucas -- Mother: Malin Akerman -- Chris: Jake Short -- Cathy: Darcy Rose Byrnes -- Carrie: Claire Geare -- Cory: Owen Bento

  • I honestly hate how OFF this movie is. Cathy was supposed to be 12 when he died. She looks 16. I would really like them to do a new adaptation of this book with better actors and production.

  • They can't do what they did in the book to a movie because it would be so bad noone would watch a brother and sister have sex and the baby they have after Kathy was married to someone else. And you cant marry your own brother.

  • @BABYDOLL2001981 People watched The Cement Garden. There was a fair bit of brother-sister action in there.

  • I think they should make this into a miniseries exactly like the book series. They should include everything that the book did and should have actors more appropriate. Maybe Charlize Theron as Corrine? Or Dakota Fanning as Cathy? What do you guys think?

  • @thealmondjoyful I agree, I loved this series, but Heaven was my favorite, that was make an amazing mini-series.

  • I love this movie and the novel. I have a proud collection of Virginia Andrews. She's THE BEST!

  • So.. Julie Plec sent me here.

  • i've read them all about 4 to 5 times. not garden of shadown tho ;p

  • @L0LxKELSEY I HIGHLY recommend reading that one, the entire story will make much more sense.

  • @MJ47106

this movie is NOTHING like the books. the books are 10x better.

they are quite graphic, but they are just AMAZING<3

  • Love******

  • God I live this movie. I must read the books. Apparently they are more theatrical and deep.

  • @MJ47106 the books are soooo much better, the movie doesn't do it justice.

  • What's up with Cory's hair? Looks like a fright wig or a fuzzy shower cap. It's TERRIBLE!

  • could you please upload the movie "Rain" (2006) also written by VC Andrews. Ive been looking everywhere and cant seem to find a copy. Pleaseeee

  • This is one of the most disturbing tales ever written.I've always loved the opening sequence of the house and grounds and that music gives me chills.Cheers for uploading haven't seen it for ages.

  • Their grandma is too good (ironic) she talks about God and Religion, when she is the evil

  • they are all jealous because there inbreed children were so beutiful

  • Cathy lookz way older thn 12

  • Theres more sex and action in the book.

  • The books farr better .

They should really make a remake of it .

  • @RachelJaredLeto I am with you....and if it is remade, done in the order of the books and according to the books and in the right order....including the prequal Garden Of Shadows

  • they should make a remake of this with nicole kidman playing Corrine.

  • @DragonFly122 good call for the part of Corrine.

  • @DragonFly122 And Hannah Endicott Dougalas should play Catherine. She has the angelic face of Catherine as described in the book. Except Hannah is a bit short.

  • What happened to "Come give me kisses if you love me?"

They could have at least put THAT in the movie!

  • omg, the book was far beyond more amazing than the movie, but the movie is also good

  • can i read somewhere this book pleeese?

  • @kooooopp buy it

  • I kinda do see the little ones being a little soggy in the area of discipline. I was raised very much the same way minus the nasty grandmum in black. Spoiled and indulgent I was not. I am now but that's another matter.

  • In the story corrine was suppose to be beautiful but here in this movie she just looks like every other women i see everyday. she looks really plain. she is not hideous but she's not beautiful either.

  • In case you didn't hear; Eventually this movie is going to be taken down because of the new anti-piracy bill that has passed. There was a hearing on it today. It's called SOPA, "Stop Online Piracy Act". Look it up on youtube and google to find out more about it. The people of hollywood did a video watch?v=5ElE2yXjO9M&feature=related

  • @bono16161 No it did not pass

  • @bono16161 dont worry ... it wont

  • What a whiney bunch of sappy kids... it's good the grandma kick their asses into shape! SINNERS! hsahahhaahaha

  • I vote for a remake movie!

  • Die Kinder sind ja viel zu groß. Beim Geburtstag von den Zwillingen war Chris erst 14 und Cathy 12. Die zwei schauen ja viel älter aus, so auch die Zwillinge viel zu alt aussehen!

  • Just finished the book and has left me thinking its a real shame the woman herself is not here for me and others to tell her what a wonderful writer she was

  • books way better.....like always.....

  • Me and my mom watch

  • @00barbieb really? no who else

  • @00barbieb yell me more

  • good movie!!!

  • I thought Cathy would have longer hair and they had no dogs

  • I thought Cathy would have longer hair

  • they actually arrived by train in the book, not bus

  • I love this movie. From another of Louise Fletcher's outstanding performances, to the brilliant musical score from Christopher young. This has everything you could want in a great film :)

  • I have to say I was glad when the Grandmother smashed the music box thing that the girl's father gave her. I HATED him giving her that. It's not right for a father to be so partial toward one child and not the others.

  • @littlebit19801 In the book, he doesn't just give her the music box. Every time he returns from one of his trips, he'll bring something for each of the kids (Of course, in the book, she never gets to take the music box with her because it's expensive and gets repossesed.)

  • @TheMickerdoodles I might have sounded harsh but I just dont like it when parents show favoritism.

  • When I was little I used to like pretending I was the grandmother.

  • i lolve the movie and i really want to read the book

  • My sister and I loved the book and when it became a movie we love the movie to.

  • i had to watch this for school...

  • Victoria Tennant was gorgeous!!! Perfect for the role imo. I have to agree w everyone else that the film doesn't live up to the books though.

  • readthe book... its sooooo much better than the movie! I read the series and was excited about the movie being released and was totally disappointed. Please read the books!

  • i need to read this book ... the movie was good, the books are ALWAYS better

  • @Danamwms I've already read the books, and they're so good I'm reading them again, and I'm only 14!

  • @Danamwms the book was so much much better i became obsessed

  • I watched this movie as a child and knew there was abuse involved. This is my second time watching the movie, but first time as an adult. I wonder what these mature eyes will pick up on.

  • Thanks! This movie is unavailable on Netflix :) i dont think it ever will be.

  • I saw this as a child, and always wondered what was this movie called. All I could remember is 4 siblings being abused in a large brown house, and their brother dying, and the ending when the children left. After watching this as a child I had reoccuring nightmares, about a wicked grandmother and an attic. I have been looking for the name of this movie for years. I'm so shocked right now! I thought I would never ever see this movie again,

  • The little boy who played Cory is PERFECT as is Nurse Ratchet as Olivia!

  • I agree Nicole Kidman would be a perfect Corrine

  • I never thought this actress was pretty enough to play Corrinne when I first read the book I used to picture Christie Brinkley as Corrine

  • @AaronRodgersIsHot I thought she was very attractive. She just doesn't have the striking blue eyes that Corrine is described as having in the books.

  • @Dashiell1970 Agree, the book says corrine is a beautiful stunner but in the film she is a pretty ugly troll who doesnt deserve beautiful stunning children!

  • @popsycalls I disagree. I don't understand why everyone thinks she's so ugly.

  • whats the music in the beginning?! anyone please

  • Yay for terrible acting at 4:58-5:01.

  • I just requested the book from the library and I'm dying to get my hands on it.

  • somebody once again turned an amazing book, into a piece of sh*t movie.....

  • If any movie needs to remade it's Flowers in the Attic(and Valley of the Dolls) and they should do it before Nicole Kidman becomes too old to play Corrine

  • i agree ...i am also 12

  • I am only 12 and people don't read the book first and then watch the movie after it because it totally ruins it!

  • The twins are so cute. The movie line doesn't do the book justice. At least, the director could have follow through till the end of the book but yet they changed this and add that. Just ruin it when you have read the book.

  • Corrine is such a gold-digging whore

  • @antoniajean Not really. Corrinne grew up in that world and had to give it up because she fell in love with her half uncle and was disowned by her parents. She was happy with the life she was living with her husband and kids but when her husband died she had nothing since she had little education and work experience so she felt she had no choice but to come back. However she should have turned away when she found out she had to get rid of her kids

  • @AaronRodgersIsHot Yes I agree, I was referring to later on in the book when it emerged that she kept the children locked up even after the grandfather was dead, and she decided that she would rather keep her fortune and kill the children off with arsenic, because if it ever emerged that she had children she would lose everything.

  • I miss V.C Andrews!!!!!!!!Only she has the power to write her books, not someone who matches her writing style.

  • @WillowTree1992 I agree, I miss her too. She is excellent. Out of all the authors that I have read...her story really captured my heart and my interest. She is such a talented woman...but taken so soon. RIP Virginia.

  • the book is waaayyyyy better

  • This movie really ruined the book for me. I thought the book was absolutely breathtaking. They changed it so much in this. In the first few scenes, Cathy looks way to old to be 12-13, which is how old they are when they first get to their grandparents house, along with Christopher. And the incest part of Cathy and Christopher is what makes the book spectacular! The fact that they didn't include it, was a bad decision on the directors. I'll stick to the book, and pretend i didn't watch this.

  • Thanks so much for uploading! My local video shop doesnt have a copy!

  • I've read all the books but Garden Shadows..that's the next book I'll be reading. I wanted to see the movie.. my brother wanted me to watch it.. (He read the books first) but we didn't get to finish it since he told me how horrible the movie was compared to the book..he said it didn't do it justice..I wanted to see for myself though..

  • XDCheyXD : He is in the first book, but he is breifly mentioned, doesn't play a large role. But when Christopher is making the last run and discovers that all his mother's jewelry is gone, he goes into other rooms, then hearing them approach hides and hears John talking to a woman servant & after hears them f***ing each other. He tells Cathy this when he comes back and that's when they decide to feed Mickey some powdered douughnut to test the Arsenic theory.

  • @ AllieKinsBegins: John is one of the servants who worked at the Foxworth Mansion. He is supposed to a 3rd cousin of the grandmother. In the novel, Chris learns about the poisening, etc. From overhearing him talk in one of their rooms.

  • @Hipslikewhoa i only remember reading about john in if there be thorns

  • @XDCheyXD He has a bigger part in If there be thorns but he was briefly in FITA. He also plays a bigger part in the prequel Garden Of Shadows as well.

  • @AaronRodgersIsHot i havent read garden of shawdows yet im still on if there be thorns because im a lazy reader but i read flowers in the attic non stop xD

  • WTF? who John !? i didnt read about him?

  • It suckted

  • I've Rid This Book (:

  • @zemenve Did it improve your spelling (:

  • If I was a director I would remake them movie. It would be my first project

  • @classyandfabulous94 Me too. As an aspiring director, a dream come true for me would be directing a remake. I have already finished a draft of the screenplay which I intend to shop around in studios.

  • Love this movie, had it taped awhile ago and I never understood the film when I was younger.

  • OUTSIDE OF THE GRANDMOTHER THEY ARE NOT DEVELOPED ACTORS ESPECIALLY CATHY WHO IS SUPPOSED CARRY THE FILM.

  • EXCELLENT QUALITY, AS WELL. THANKS TO THE UPLOADER. Thank you for sharing~~YOU ARE THE BEST.. :-)

  • Dont pick fave children, parents! Fucks other kids up! Im living proof!

  • ....sana gawin din nilang movie yung casteel series...

  • Eww, the way the mom looked at them, I wonder if the dad had something going on with the daughter-yuk!

  • @2008atwt I totally agree with you. All the movie's out there that have been remade this is one that really needs to be remade, and if they do that they should do movies of all the books in this series.

  • I read the book <3 anyone who wants it. ill send it to them. its very good!!

  • @mallerySON40 I'll read it. I never read the book, and this is the first time I am watching this movie.

  • @DarkAnimeSoul

Alright, msg the info. I'll send it asap

  • What is the name of the melody that jewelry box played?

  • @EarTipper Flowers in the Attic Theme

  • what happened to the husband exactly? U reckon granny killed him?

  • @ThePhoenixbitch

In the book he dies in a car crash. I remember my friends telling me about this book, back when I was 13...I believe it was the same time the book first came out. The whole story was creepy and yet intriguing for all of us girls...a book that is a dark fairy story with the taboo of sex and incest was really a sensation, yet not considered censored, as we bought the book thru our classroom teacher. Times were very different back then.

  • I was disappointed....because I read the book and some of the books that came after it to continue the story....this movie was like a ""brush over change things here and there"" type of movie...now the book on the other hand...oh man...you HATED the grandmother and their mother. 2 of the most wicked women in the book.

  • This is such a sad story. Although the movie has a happy ending, as did the book, the tragedies didn't discontinue in the lives of Kathy, Carrie and Chris. They went on for the rest of their lives, as it does for all the characters in V.C. Adrew books, as far as I know. The twisted and demented things continue to happen to them in book after book. You can honestly say that life isn't that horrible for many people in real life. At least not in that way.

  • @stitchesful I agree all of VCA books are like this: by the end of the series most of the main characters die in some way and the "curse" isn't usually lifted until the daughter book.

  • @AaronRodgersIsHot It's ironic but her books are a source of comfort in that way. There aren't many things about which you can say that real life isn't that bad. I guess we can look at the characters in these books and thank God our lives aren't so morbid.

  • When I was little, this movie used to scare the crap out of me and now I watch it everyday...

  • This movie is horrible it isn't like the book at all.

  • I don't get what everyone's saying, i loved this movie and I'm currently reading the book.

  • This movie suckssssssss! this is the first time I watched it. I read the book years ago and tthis is no good compared. plus daddy is a little creepy in this.

  • The movie is moving too fast,

  • you people who are raving on about how much better the book is compared to the movie are DISGUSTING. i have never read but looked up and heard about the vulgar insest sex scenes between the brother and the sister THANK GOD it was left out the film. who would want to see or read such a disgraceful thing like that... whoever like this book series must have NO morals whatsoever....

  • @khrystall16

You are pathetic. You don't have to like the subject matter in a book to enjoy the book. the whole thing wasn't about incestuous sex, and did not go into explicit detail with the sex scenes . If you can't deal with something like that, then that's you're problem. Just don't presume to think that you have higher moral standards. the books were excellent. And this film is bog statard.

  • @Rowan07001484 i get it, i had just heard some people say it was very detailed so i tried reading the book for myself it was good but up into that point it almost ruined the book if she would have left it out it would have been alot more enjoyable.

  • @khrystall16

well. I didn't find it a problem. I mean I don't agree with incest, but it didn't really bother me. Also in the third book they are living together as man and wife, the brother and sister. So I don't recommend reading further if it offends you

  • @khrystall16 Though doth protest too much!

  • The books were disturbing and disgusting. I'm just watching the movie in hopes of it being better than the books.

  • @SalvyGirlCindy13 It's so funny how you say "The BOOKS were disturbing and disgusting. I'm just watching the movie in hopes of it being better than the books." How ridiculous are you? The only part of the books that could be considered "disturbing" happened in the first book! Yet you read all 5? And now you are watching the movie hoping it's better? Why don't you just admit that you love it? And sorry.. the movie can't even hold a candle to the book! VC ANDREWS IS GOD!! lol

  • @syntheticka Actually I meant exactly what I said, All three books I've read of this series were disturbing. The disgusting incest between Cathy and Chris doesn't stop, which I was hoping it would, and don't forget that Cathy's adopted father! and that male ballerina.

By The way, this movie was amazing, I wish I had never read the books and just scene the movie

  • @SalvyGirlCindy13 But... IF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SO DISGUSTING, why did you keep reading??? That was my whole point.............

  • @syntheticka He didn't but in this movie it makes it kind of look that way. Yuck.

  • I've read the books awhile back but had no idea they made a movie out of it!!! In what year did this come out?

  • @Nickygurl83 1987.

  • The book series are just..outstanding. I read each and every one of them. The movie is good to me, but I do agree they should make a remake and make it rated R to actually show everything about what happened in the book. They should make it into separate movies like the Twilight Saga or Harry Potter. Now those would be epic.

  • It doesn't follow the EXACT plot, the characters talk fake and wierd, Christopher looks 30, not 14, and Cathy looks in her twentys, not 12. Not the worst movie ever, but I expected better, considering the book is fantastic D:

  • the book is one of my favorites,

    but the movie stinks !

  • they really should remake this film, it doesn't do the book justice at all.

  • im reading the books currently and the characters look so much different than i imagined. Corrine isnt that gorgeous. lol

  • this is the only movie thats ever made me cry, something about the music

  • I want the book but I don't think my mother would approve. What do?

  • @IeatyouYoueatme1 the book is so much more different from the movie. it can be difficult to read at times because of how intense the plot is. its a very mature book so if you think your up for it then by all means, start reading.

  • wow so corrine was jealous of her daughter and husbands relationship?? weird!

  • I read the book and at the end of this story, the mother dosn't die, ehy don't they follow the book??

  • Comment removed

  • @kingofpop633 way to ruin the ending... XD

  • @punkylbrewsterlvb Yeah and know lol

  • So is there a reason why a 25 year old woman is playing a girl who's supposed to be 12?
