  • mr alnicomagnet. My dad bought me a stock new ga5. I have a guitar equiped with 2 high output humbuckers, and at about 1/2(and higher) its speaker start to make a nasty vibration when I play the last three strings:E,A,D and when I use the eq(bass boost) . So i discovered that the combo can't handle the lows. Please advice me what to do. Should I buy an extension 1*12 cabinet. I've already soldered a new jack for the 8 ohm output. Thank you &sorry for my bad english.

  • Yes, I use a 1 X 12" cab, for gigs, (mic'd up with a Shure SM57) fabulous sound. Mod the amp first though. Cheers, Nigel

  • Have you heard one of my modified amps in the flesh? The whole point of these small low wattage amps with small speakers is to get output tube compression/distortion at reasonable volume. They sound much better than the stock amp. My amps also have line-out jacks. I've gigged with small 5W amps using an SM57 into the house P.A. Awesome sound. Very cheap setup.

  • When I buy the head, and combine it with a 112 cab, will it come over a drummer (average loudness)? If so, it would be the cheapest usable tube amp out there!

  • Hi, no not really, I find you have to mic it through the PA. It depends how clean you want the sound. Cheers, Nigel

  • @alnicomagnet

Ok, thanks for your quick reply! Well, I don't necessarily need it to be clean when rehearsing, and when I gig it's possible to mic it up.. I think I'm gonna buy it!!

  • i like the ''fender'' the most

  • When the UK went over to 230V mains, rather than changing billions of pounds of power station equipment the tolerence was just changed on paper so that the existing 240V was still legal ie 230 V +10% −6%. All new power station equipment was then made to 230V spec.

  • exactly

  • 242.4 at my socket. btw I have customers in London report voltages over 255V

  • It sounds dead.

  • Measure the wall socket voltage for the truth.

  • With your mod kit is it possible to switch between the two settings?

  • Hi, it is possible, but it needs some thought, as bypass capacitors, and cathode resistors will need to be switched. Cheers, Nigel

  • hi there these amps sound amazing, great video.

how would you compare these amps (without mods) to the valve junior?

im after a 5w class A valve amp - they're hard to find! so far i know of the epiphone, harley benton, gibson ga-5 and two by a company called blackheart. does anyone know of any others?

    thanks a lot

  • Hi, unmodded they sound very similar to an unmodded EVJ. The major difference is the inclusion of the "EQ" control. Check out my Blackheart videos.

  • I have an suggestion, Get a stereo wired guitar ans use em both. I yhink you could make some real cool sounds with the tone differences between the amps!

  • Good idea!

  • you must try some stereo delay , phaser or chorus pedal with both amps . should be awesome .

  • Anyone know if it's safe to use a UK 250V power supply with one of these?

  • Yes if you mod it with one of my kits.

  • That brownface sounds really great. But it's distorted very soon with humbuckers. Can you set nice clean sound with enough volume ?

  • Hi the limiting factor is the 5watt output. If you want higher clean volume then you need a more powerful amp.

  • God, the Brownface sounds... wow...

  • Thanks, I guess Leo got it right in the first place. I'm just copying him. Cheers, Nigel

  • Brilliant!

Will your mods work on an epiphone valve junior?

  • Hi, Yes they do. You need to drill an extra hole for the tone pot, but it's pretty simple. Check out UK ebay username "alnicomagnet" Cheers, Nigel

  • Would have been great if you could have shown some overriven tones on the marshall too, also if you would have the kits on ebay - you don't.

  • I don't list the kits when I'm on holiday. They are listed now, Cheers, Nigel

  • Okey! Could you make a video with the "marshall-sound"-moded with some overdriven tones?

  • Sorry both amps have been sold, Cheers, Nigel

  • I really like your brownface tone mod. Where can I find the schematic for it?

  • I sell the Brownface kits on ebay. Search out a Fender Deluxe schematic. I use 500pF and 10nF, Cheers, Nigel
