@yahoo6712 really? wow, you have so much attention to detail, you should work for the CIA... Btw, in case you don't get it, that was sarcasm, Captain Obvious!
if you have a problem at cold starting it's good to turn on your headlights for like 30sec before starting an engine.. why? because je little internal battery resistor is cold and when its cold it can't give amperage required for engine to start ( around 700A ), by turning on the lights that resistor will warm up and the battery will be able to deliver the power needed to start the engine =)
@Heci55CrO Doesn't the preheater draw the juice through that resistor? If yes then i bet the preheater which is in fact a resistance sucks enough current to heat the resistor up. I see no point to use 110 (55 X 2) watt headlight to heat the resistor.
@oscarnovember i have a 307 HDI and that preheater like does nothing, i had much shorter starting time when i had headlights on for a minute.. now i dont say that it does nothing.. :)
Thank you Kiriuxa, you are correct of course, I did stop at our local dealer who told me where, even though it's a right hand drive it's still where you said. Thank you.
@TheFred1935 There's a lever that you have to push, on the left (if it's left hand drive), where all the cars usually have it. Open the drivers door and you should see it.
NO HACE FALTA QUE LE DEN VARIAS VECES CONTACTO PARA QUE "CALIENTE" SON UN DESASTRE! CON UNA VEZ ARRANCA BIEN SI EL SISTEMA DE PRECALENTAMIENTO ESTA BIEN!!!
its nothing to do with the glow plugs , in cold conditions diesel thickens up so its harder to start unless you put a addivtive in then you wouldn't have this problem
@maxyshka Кто радуется? Ты слышишь смех и веселье? И хотел бы я посмотреть как ты дизельную Ладу заведёшь в -35 с первого раза. При такой температуре дизель очень густой.
I have a Peugeot 307 2.0 HDi from 2003 and have done cold starts at -35C here in Sweden early in the morning. Only one preheat and it started after just 2-3 seconds. It really sounds like and old Mercedes diesel from the 80's when that cold.
A tip is the replace the battery with the highest amp battery you can fit into the battery box, it helps alot. I have a Webasto heater installed as well, makes it safe to use it frequently without draining the battery completely.
@MrAngelosilvestri What does the radio has to with starting it? It stops playing at ignition and the fact that it plays for 10 sec, doesn't do too much harm to the battery.
Oh yeah, one more thing, you the one who's cretino! :)
In Poland during this winter we had -34. No problems with starting my Peugeot. 1.6hdi, one preheat and go. I have no idea why that guy doing 3 prehets??? WTF
just watched the vid again and note the fuel and temp guages drop to off position showing the volt drop to ecu occuring, common problem on pug 307s amongst others.
its not the cold, its your starter motor .engine is turning over too slow, for crank sensor to fire injectors . also starter is pulling battery voltage in system down which stops ecu from firing engine (needs 9.5v stable) .hope this helps. new starter from europarts is £75 new unit not recon.
I've been there. The main thing you did wrong, although it may have helped start the car is truning it on and off. This can warp the glowplugs and damage them. I used to have the problem with a diesel truck. most of my coworkers wanted to flick the switch quickly to get them to warm up. It's progeria. Here today, gone tomorrow. But, ohh do I know how that cold feels! And for the haters, Peugeot makes the best diesel motor. Unless, they've been upped since I had my kitty back in '08. Year 2002

Sowas passiert durch die Bank weg bei allen Dieselfahrzeugen...
Weak battery and possibly burnt glow plugs. It should start much easier. And you're not doing your glow plugs any favours by doing that.
Also, might want to try a top quality oil, not the factory spec Total, and maybe a friction modifier additive, like MoS2 (molybdenum disulfide) from Liqui Moly.

Hello! Yes, diesels are good. Even this one in the Peugeot, not particularly powerful, but still very nice to drive. No, i did have the block heater plugged in for the night, I don't even have it and acctually don't know any people in my country (Lithuania) who use those. However, are might be wrong :)
Come cold weather here in the states, I'll have to see if my neighbor will let me cold start his 6.2L diesel truck. It takes quite a lot of effort to cold start it and it smokes like a chimney. But it's a good truck, still.
Wow, 6.2L, crazy :)) I think that the biggest diesel engine I've seen in Lithuanian are AUDI's 4.2TDI's , though I might be foregetting something :) We don't have the "american style" pick-up trucks back here.
Talking about diesel and petrol, it's actually hard to tell. But i think there are more petrol cars, although the number of diesels has been increasing over the years.
If you think a 6.2L is big, my favourite is the 7.3L Powerstroke in 1996 - 2002 Ford F-250 and F-350.
The 6.2L is in a 1991 Chevrolet Suburban. I do know that most European vehicles are not a big as we have here in the states, and things like our "SUV's" and pick-up trucks are used more for work in Europe, and not everyday driving like we do here.
We do now have the Dodge Sprinter which is a rebranded Mercedes van with the 5-cyl turbodiesel, and more recently, the Ford Transit. We've caught on.
Well, the vehicles I'm referring to are larger vehicles. The idea of smaller vehicles having diesels has been slow to catch on. So far, really only Mercedes, BMW, and VW have mainstreamed small diesels. Thanks to Daimler getting in with Chrysler, there are a couple of Jeep models with Mercedes diesels.
