  • I dont lke the way apple takes something and puts a gloss on it and give it a different name as though they made it. Pidgeon is opensource and you can have it on a PC or linux or Apple - only on Apple do they give it another name!

  • I see your point with the big prices on Macs and what not, but still Macs have real great specs now. In the long run you'll love a Mac forever. Otherwise I still love Windows and Ubuntu linux, I just use Lion as my main OS.

  • I'm on the same laptop!

  • I think I saw liam neeson in the thumbnail of this video :)

  • @IndustRoyal B..b...but, I love ubuntu. :'(

  • Haters gonna hate. Linux is good, but for me, it's very limited. I like commercial software, because open source doesn't always get it right. I've yet to find any music player that comes remotely close to iTunes, or a basic drawing program that comes remotely close to MS Paint, possibly the only thing Microsoft has ever done perfectly in my eyes. None are flawless, but OS X does seem to have the most to offer, even though I'm not a fan of Apple hardware.

  • @PoliticalHell Limited? You have no idea what you are talking about. A have been using Linux for 12 years now and I have to tell you that you haven't used it if you can say state such a strong opinion. Give me a task and I will complete it before you and without costs.

  • @MitjaFelicijan Task: edit a professional video (professionally). Now, go do it with no costs - or even with costs, but on Linux.

  • @PoliticalHell Disney/Pixar, DreamWorks Animation, Sony, ILM and other movie production studios from Hollywood are using Linux to produce their movies. ;)

  • @H3NT13 Okay, giant render farms isn't what I had in mind.

  • @PoliticalHell "drawing program that comes remotely close to MS Paint, possibly the only thing Microsoft has ever done perfectly in my eyes" Wow. Quote of the day. Seriously.

  • mac: overpriced parts for beginner users and media editing professionals

pc: everything from new to professional, you craft it the way you like it

linux: for the advanced computer users only, requires much more job then pc and is much harder, but requires less performance to run better

i preffer pc, i am a highend computer user and i can run linux, however i choose not to because i think its too much work just doing things on it.. but i do see the point... hosting servers is preffered on linux

  • So no matter what is you choose osx or Linux support the hard work and efforts of people creating those amazing open source programs

  • I'm sure any Linux user will agree those are good programs and even uses a few of those apps him self

  • No need to use osx lions app store just tinker as you like to do and use the open source tools no need to use iPhoto or expensive aperture just go grab gimp for free research before u assume there is no open source Mac programs available

  • On my Mac I use pidgin Firefox open office gimp vlc thunderbird stellarium flex media center rssowl ffmpefx open song i stumbler gnu cash simply burns handbrake cyber duck synergy blender etc etc osx can run all that open source software google open source Mac and start downloading away use the fink project source forge macports etc etc to dl all the open source you need I also use audacity etc etc as a Mac user why weren't you using any of those programs all these years

  • I'm Mac and Linux user, I give the congratulations to you. You made very well in changing to Linux and using a laptop in place of a iMac or Macbook, had good attituds and were wise. Linux is better than Mac OS X because Mac OS X's very limited and obligued you to pay some apps form App Store. The open source and free apps are few. But in spite of Linux being better, Linux is a bit limited, although it be open source and free.

Wozniak's the original inventor and not Steve Jobs. DON'T BUY APPLE!

  • Hey, a fellow Linux user here. I feel the same way about Linux as you, I distro-hop- and that is fun! I d/l from distrowatch, distromania.

I like the fact open source allows customization-only limited by the user.

I don't like Mac with their proprietary hardware, needing to login to iTunes to d/l, u/l, transfer media. Mac limits what you can do with it's software. I hate the special cables needed to use hardware with Macs peripherals. Linux machines just use typical pc..USB ports.

    Great Video.

  • My first computer was one of the garage-built Apple ]['s. A terrific machine! If you had one of the older ]['s (not a "plus"), then you got the source code to the mini-assembler, Integer and AppleSoft basic, plus a component layout of the machine down to it's internal logic. The Woz did that, not Jobs. The Woz was about "Open Source" earlier than Stallman. *1977-1978) THEN the Evil Steve screwed it up by close-sourcing it into the Apple ][ + and that was the beginnig of the end.

  • Mac fanboys, go make me some matha fuckin MAC and cheeze!

  • Windows and Linux are the best!

  • Windows & Linux are the best and Apple sucks!

  • Great video. You should make more

  • Welcome to the real world and be ready to enjoy life more with an os that wont fight you at every turn

  • Here have a glass of apple juice , relax urself

  • So true my friend! Linux is way better than OSX or anything Apple throws our way! I grew up with the Commodore64 as well and it still has a special place in my heart! Mac's are good for some things, but the whole notion that we're arguing over computers as a species is so foolish!

  • AMEN

  • and I'm supposed to give a fuck because...?

  • here in Brazil a macbook pro i5 cost R$3600,00. An Asus i7 with GT550 cost R$2600,00. Think.

  • i switched from windows to linux, from linux to apple and now i wanna go back to linux ... it was the best operating system ive ever had, the problem is i need photoshop and co ... i realy loved to use linux (ubuntu) i think in the near future i will sell my macbook again ...

  • @theh8er1988 use gimp :)

  • @fuengbful haha come on, i work as a professional =D gimp is ok for amateurs ... =)

  • @theh8er1988 I don't need photoshop or similar software, but i run plenty of "non" linux stuff on linux and without problems...Alternatively a dual system linux/windows with the windowsxp partition purely for photoshop, although not sure this is worth.

  • DONT USE APPLE, IT DESERVES TO DIE, LINUX WILL WIN, This is my will and you must obay. Long live mint 12

  • STEVE JOBS WAS A GAYLORD, SODOMITE, AND FRAUDSTER. APPLE PRODUCTS ARE VIOLENTLY OVERPRICED, CHEAPLY MADE, UNRELIABLE CRAP.

THE WINDOWS PC, IS FAR FROM PERFECT, BUT A MILLION TIMES MORE MAINTAINABLE AND UPGRADEABLE THAN MAC.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ Your obviously really angry and I can certainly understand and sympathize with what you're feeling. However, if you hold onto this hatred against something so silly and against a man WHO HAS changed the way computing is viewed and used, then you will only make yourself look more irrational, childesh and above all, ignorant of a subject that you definitely have not given as much consideration to as you should.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ finally, I'm sorry if my comments have only made you more angry, but when I see someone post the kind of comment that you did, I have to address it, because IT IS, inaccurate and very childesh. Steve Jobs has passed, you should be much more respectful.

The only other thing that I would like to leave with you, is that Bill Gates, your admirable leader, said from his own lips that he has lost a great friend and the world has lost a visionary.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ You know what, I tried being professional and reasoning with you, but you're nothing but a bitter, self-righteous ass hole who listens to no one but himself. Fuck you and I hope you die a slow painful death you fucking waste of existence!

  • @10chadjordan01 A HUGE PERCENTAGE OF PUNTERS WHO FOOLISHLY PURCHASED APPLE PRODUCTS, WERE STRUGGLING AWAY TO GET THEM WORKING (WITH VERY LIMITED INSTRUCTION OR SUPPORT) WHILE THE FOUL HOMOSEXUAL STEVIE JOBS WAS SODOMISING HIS WAY THROUGH HUNDREDS OF MOROCCAN BOYS, AND LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO HIS JEW BASTARD BANK. I JUST WISH HE'D SUFFERED MORE, AND FOR LONGER.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ you know what, I'm a PC user. Always have been always will be, but you sir, are one awful, hateful person. You piece of shit!!!!!!!!!!! How dare you speak against the dead like that!!!!!? You should have MUCH MORE respect! Fuck you, you awful AWFUL PERSON!!!! Why don't you do humanity a favor and go end your life!!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!!

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ I don't feel the least bit sorry for you.

Steve Jobs had kings, leaders and friends and family at his funeral, you will have no one, except for other demons that shared in your hatred. You can say whatever you want in response to this message, I won't care because I won't be reading it. I'll be deleting whatever I get from you at this point on. Bye now, and the best of bad luck to you.

  • @10chadjordan01 INDEED. KINGS, LEADERS, AND FRIENDS THAT WERE ALSO BUGGERS AND PERVERTS, JUDGING BY YOUR ALMOST RABID RESPONSES, I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT YOU ARE ALSO A PERVERT AND BUGGER.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ I hope you get the help you need. I'm not playing around either, get yourself some professional help and medication. You need it.

  • One thing that's nice about this video post is that you're giving your opinion on which platform to choose rather than telling people they are dumb for not choosing Apple products. I'm currently on my linux mint machine, because my macbook pro is down. Needs another hard drive ribbon yet again. I use all three platforms for various reasons, but part of my philosophy still stems from an open source mentality. In the end whether mac or linux, my platform will always be Unix driven.

  • @10chadjordan01 there are far more platforms than 3.

  • @Tununias Yes, very true. However, when I said 3, I was implying that there are 3 primary operating systems, that "the norms" are really aware of. I realize that Solaris is technically separate, but it does stem from the same principles and similar file structure. I use Solaris and have tested a large array of Linux operating systems. There are many more Linux operating systems, but Linux, does speak for a very large array of Unix driven operating systems and that's why I said that.

  • Yes, Apple sell very expencive toys. "But their support is soooooo amazing." Ehhh, heeeeellll no. I heard other stories about their so called "support", and it wasn't pretty.

  • Apple sucks cause not only its soo expensive....it gets dent easily and takes a bomb to get the aluminum body replaced. The only good product i felt apple did well was the Iphone....

  • I completely agree on your move. Next time, I will just buy a laptop with a cutting edge video card and processor instead of overpriced apple toys. You get a top gaming system and just install hackintosh and linux for all tools you need. The iPhone and iPad are still nice when jailbroken and not that overpriced. Android is shit, just a VM, you want a proper open OS phone, get meego or maemo. Ubuntu is shit and unstable, run gentoo or debian, or even BSD.

  • @IndustRoyal And to add, most of the core of MacOS/Darwin is stolen from Free-BSD, which is free and mainly open source.

  • @IndustRoyal How is it stolen if it's free and open source? FYI, Darwin is also free and open source.

  • macs are nice, but i almost feel like they think they have a monopoly on the nice computer business. they overprice every product they sell by at least a hundred dollars.

  • In my opinion, APple is overrated, closed source. Liux/Android is awesome, becuase it's free, can run on a high level of hardware Mac included. Many distrubution to choose from, and does not require an anti-virus.

Apple software is made for Apple products, people say you can ran Mac on a Windows based computer, but you hear about the trouble you have to go through to do it. Mac is limited to designs and stuff. Buying a Windows based computer, so many brands and styles to choose from, much more.

  • I lve the iQuit, lol.

  • will i have to update linux like apple is recently doing with lion

  • @surfs1man You dont have to, but you can let it upgrade for free, and as often as you like. Bleeding edge software for free

  • 269 people thought that apple was a fuckup and that the dislike button was invisible

  • Apple is the best freakn company eveeeeerrr. Love Apple

  • Every one has their view and i respect your, I like apple for their out of box compatibility with most hardware. Drivers are not user friendly lol

  • I have never went to the Dark Side. I could never be turned to the Dark Side. The Emperor Steve Jobs has failed. Never will I ever turn.

I have hated Apple from the day I was born till the day I die.

I grew up on the Commodore 64, that computer was way better in almost every way to the Apple II. Then I went to the Amiga, now there was a computer, I wish to god every day that Commodore would have marketed that better, Amgia was so far ahead of it's time.

  • @snake2006

After the Amiga line died with Commodore I went to PC when Windows 95 came out. Stuck with that till Windows XP, went to Vista, went back to XP because Vista SUCKS and on Windows 7.

Then I went to Ubuntu (Win 7 is still there but I almost never log onto it unless I am desperate) that was a year ago and I haven't looked back since.

  • @snake2006 Sorry, but I have to comment. I really feel you, believe me. My hatred originated with the thought that these hippies and art majors that came along and thought that they had a place in the technology realm and it took me a while and a lot of thinking on the subject before I got to a place where I understood the concept better. I use all three, primarily because I have my own on the side tech business, I have to have all three readily standing by.

  • @snake2006 Your hatred however should not be towards Steve Jobs. Yes, his philosophy is something that I definitely do not follow, nor will ever fully agree with, but he really did change everything about the way we view computing. He succeeded because look at the computer age today. He made computers into what everyone wants. A little from every area of interest. Apple is not your enemy, it's the users who choose to act and behave in that arrogant way that should really be stopped.

  • @snake2006 Steve Jobs showed people that arrogance was okay as long as you used an apple. I never have, nor do I agree now that this is accurate. I hate arrogant people and I'm not one of those arrogant mac users, I'm a computer science major who keeps the terminal in his dock because I still prefer the quick typing commands , which is another reason that I still use Linux and always will no matter how good Apple gets.

  • @snake2006 I just wanted to make sure that I explained this not from a strictly apple users perspective, but from a rational, logical perspective. Even though Steve Jobs made some mistakes and his philosophy was jacked up in certain areas, he really did change everything in the most incredible way so he has not failed anyone and deserves the highest respect.

  • I only bought apple mp3 players and the iPod Touch because they WERE really cheap compared to other products!

    Now I'm dissapoint.

  • IwantToQuit. I don't own a Mac, but I despise iOS and Apple's garden. If I could, I would flash Linux onto my IPod Touch, but jailbreaking doesn't help you with that (but you can compile the kernel & utilities on here using the GCC port). So I'm not with the megaconglomerate that is apple, because of the little prison they put you in.

  • Seems like a nice person this guy, sort of lost in perspectives here in life but very nice.

  • "I could be a distro hopper every month if I wanted to". This guy needs a new hobby.

  • I respect your choice but when it comes to really doing Productive, not Consumptive type of work then Linux would suck a lot and Windows will suck 2nd; Mac will never catch a virus which means it will run as long as the hardware is OK. But Apple still has the very expensive hardware; and the buggy nature of Unix.

I myself use all three platforms, but my main system is a Mac, my gaming machine is W7 PC and my Customer's serving computer is Ubuntu 11.10

  • @hraqhraq

    I wouldn't say that.

I haven't had any problems being productive with Ubuntu.

For videos I use openshot to make videos for work

I use Libraoffice for all my documents and I can save them as MS office files so I can take them and use them at work.

I got photoshop running in Ubuntu using WINE, works great.

Gaming, I have got almost every game I like to play working in either dosbox (for older games) and Wine. Some of it is using Virtual Machine running XP. I am pretty productive.

  • @snake2006 "I got photoshop running in Ubuntu using WINE, works great." "Gaming, I have got almost every game I like to play working in either dosbox (for older games) and Wine."

Look at the word Wine that you used; you have said that twice which is a vote that linux doesn't have a high quality appz.

And Wine will never be performance champion like un-emulated powerful Windows or Mac Systems.

  • @hraqhraq Wow..

  • Problem with Open Source is you have to be pretty pute savvy. If you have access to systems guy then you are good. If you are tweeking your Apple platform instead of using the applications, then build a system and run something like Ubuntu, remember APPS. CentOS is the platform of choice for major 100K+ applications. Windows sits on the Networking layer that Unix resides. Windows is invasive. Unix is cleaner. Rootkits are UNIX based, once infected you are toast. Try hackintosh computer

  • @mclimbaugh not so much the case anymore. with the new gnome 3, it becomes very simplified, even more so than OSX.

  • Apple is awesome but lion is a buggy piece of shit! I would take fucking vista agains fucking lion... Linux is fucking awesomeo, custom mouse, custom app store,it's frigin awesome with coding, I love Linux and snow leopard. Best operating systems out there....

  • slackware64 is nice

  • been useing linux mint 11 lately i dont think i will ever use windows or mac again as a primary os...windows actual runs better in virtualbox than it did on my hardwhere lol

  • Huh... I'll reconsider Linux if my Mac Mini for Christmas doesn't satisfy me... Maybe. I can always put parallels on it and just run windows 7 on it, it worked on my old macbook pro. Fast as hell.

  • I've never been an apple guy, I use windows because windows has most of the software I need.. However, when it comes to getting the job done, and done right.. I run linux all the way

  • 11.10 guys, i've used it and i like it, it should have been 11.04, but its not easy coming out with a whole new UI

  • Well gay mac fanboys dont really peocreate. You have more latinos and asians who actually have no issues with windows. people get mac because they cant use pc...

  • Mac is better than windows but I respect the man.

  • 1-Google system76.

    2-Open website.

    3-Order best computer ever.

  • Welcome!

  • Life is tough mate

  • you bring a clean decision !

  • But please make a video about how sh-it the new ubuntu is.

  • Nothing can compare to my story. I bought an iPhone 4s, the button was tight so I took it back, the employee without informing us fulling put our $850 on a gift card. Later that week I just didn't like it and wanted my money back, I got to use the phone and everything and I didn't like it. I went in, wanting my money back, but no. The manager comes out and tells me, "take the gift card, or take a new phone, or leave" I felt insulted, I'm selling my phone on ebay and buying an Android.

  • @MadDogMeh Do you think you will ever give your business to Apple again? I still am 100% today as what I said in this video a while back.

  • @stmpoodle Not unless the management team gets a major makeover. I used and fell in love with the Android OS. Its complex and thats what I love, its not simple, its not dumbed down. No offence to people who like iOS, its just not for me.

  • @stmpoodle I might consider buying the MacBook Pro, putting a secondary OS on it of course, but not from the Apple Store. I will get it from Best Buy, or a smaller retailer, but not from those rude, snobby, selfish store, at least not while they control it.

  • @MadDogMeh You might want to try this://

    laptops. megafreebie.

    com/? referral = 32221

  • @stmpoodle My sister is a Mac user and I conviced her to go Android. I finally upgraded my phone to Android last month, and I had my previous phone for 8 years.

  • @stmpoodle I agree apple are REALLY bad to deal with. Complete scammers but as I do audio on a computer I'm forced into using them! The computer are great but the people at apple inc are space cake eating chavs!

  • @Viper95z You should see my follow-up video to this. Just type "Cult Apple Fanboys" in to the YouTube search box and the video should be near the top. Or search my videos for it. It was cool.

  • @MadDogMeh Welcome to the Android world good pal. Why not come to the rooted side?

  • @iToasterman Hah, I might root it, and even if I do, Google or Samsung won't care :) I love the freedom of Android.

  • @MadDogMeh i have a android i hate it i will trade

  • @surfs1man Sorry man, I got rid of the phone a while ago.

  • @MadDogMeh APPLE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS 100% SHIT. BUYER BEWARE.

  • @NUNCLEFRITZ YUP

  • linux and osx are practically the same thing they are both based on unix but linux is alot cheaper and better it has tons of features unlike apple

an update is available for your computer:

    Linux: Cool more free stuff!

    mac: ooh! only $99!

  • Apple boxed a dog turd and sold that iShit for $2000 to millions of iDiots.

  • fuck simple minded apple fagboy sheep

  • @sanvicecity3 FreeBSD?

  • good for you. i love linux mint 11.as for thefanboys, i don't know why we can't all get along.

  • Dude...I was with apple when it was OS 7,8,9...10 sure seems like a cash cow and any hardware that was PPC related was garbage. I think the intel hardware has vastly improved.

  • Good Morning!

  • I've been with apple since the Apple II. I had a II+, a handful of //e's and then a IIGS. When they discontinued the Apple II series instead of going Macintosh I went PC because of University. When I see what Apple has become I am deeply disapointed. All my mates pay through the arse to be in the 'Apple gang' - which is 'cool'. I currently run XP and Gentoo Linux as I primary OS's but also greatly respect Arch Linux and FreeBSD.

  • @yotaboy27 get lost fanboy

  • @dylanroo

    original.

  • @stmpoodle you should try arch thats the funnest linux ever g3 looks awesome and works great on there. its a rolling distro and they have aur and pacman rich is awesome.on a side not ubuntu 11.10 is pretty slick too with some nice features as well unity is gettign ready for you guessed it a innovative 3d desktop with compiz. ya unity is not perfect but you see apple stealing ideas left and right in lion from ubuntu and other distros. apple is only innovative at stealing ideas.

  • @yotaboy27 You're wrong dude! nearly 19,000 views here. I didn't think at first so many would care, but they did. I stayed true to my promise - never bought another Apple thing again. See my follow-up video to this with the words "Fanboys" in this.

  • @yotaboy27 I think the population of Mac fanboys are dwindling... Just FYI.

  • @MrBrutus101

    Honestly, I hope they are.

  • @yotaboy27 I have 5 Macs, 3 iPhones, and an iPod in my house and you certainly don't speak for me as an Apple user. You speak for the mindless Apple fanboys of the world.

I enjoyed his video. I suggest you move along to a site like "Mac Daily News" or "MacRumors" where you can discuss how "elegant, delicious, sexy, and gorgeous" your Macs are. There's a lot of little boys and girls just like you there. Make sure you mention how you can't stop crying over Steve!! Boo Hooo!!

  • @bibbler227

Seriously, get a life man, and have a little respect.

  • Unless you like to spend a lot of time tinkering trying to get certain applications to function properly you won't not like linux...Linux is fun for about 2 weeks then becomes very frustrating when you start discovering the difficulty of making certain operations work right...That said linux is FAST and is good for basic web surfing (viruses and malware are nearly non existant)...But there's a lot of things that are very difficult to get working.

  • first world problems

  • @ItzPkJoHn LOL this is some fucking funny comment, man LOL

  • @GranKnight87 i know right?

  • @rmysterio80 I could hack your POS Mac like it was nothing and its not impossible to make malware or spyware for Macs

  • Mate. Apple has become a bloated, trendy brand followed by sheep who are easily milked. Once upon a time it was the renegade. Now it is the establishment! My advice? Keep your trusty old XP for as long as you can for things like scanners, Excel and PC games. For everything else its Linux all the way. Six years now and never a single virus or issue that the friendly folks on the forums couldn't help with. Settled on Mint in the end.

  • MacOs X is a good OS like windows and Linux are.

  • Go have fun with viruses and crashes

The Apple army wont miss you

  • @rmysterio80 Viruses and crashes on Linux? Hahahaha

  • @TheMeanEYE hur hur hur windows hur hur hur

  • @rmysterio80 hello,i have a pink beard

  • @TheMeanEYE No viruses (because there is no auto-execute by default). But malware is theoretically possible, so make a second account with limited rights, use a white list on the browser for Javascript, JAVA and Flash, and only install via softwarecenter/synaptic, and then AV is not needed. AV is an excuse for not setting the correct security settings, and it hardly ever works as intended.

  • @rmysterio80 The Apple ARMY?!

I have to join an ARMY when I buy a Mac?

As in, it's not just a bloody computer?!

What country does the Army defend?

Are they seeing any military action anywhere?

Is Steve Jobs lying in state in its capital?

  • @GeoNeilUK all i heard was

hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur hur

  • You sir have been cured....

  • Some people actually care about the platform just enough that they are sure it does what it is intended. Mac os is the absolute standard in professional audio/video/graphic editing. As a mix engineer it was my first and only choice.

  • Dude, you fucking stupid moron. Apple OS/X is FreeBSD, a certified open source distro. You know jack shit.

  • @yvessoete Well, only the kernel is open source, the rest of it is proprietary.

  • @htfkid2000 of course it is you fuck

  • @yvessoete ok? what does the term fuck have to do with anything?

  • @yvessoete LOL OSX is NOT open source you fucking moron!! Call up Apple and ask them for their source code and see what they say. Or even better, find it on the net....... it wont happen because its NOT open source retard! It is a certified UNIX OS, but it is NOT open source. I am thinking you dont know what open source means.

  • @Brianchse It's based on FreeBSD which is open source though. Not our fault Apple is charging you for it and chucking the Alpha desktop on top of it. lol

  • Good job bro.Apple is just an expensive peace of crap I rather buy a pc with nothing on it and install a "Free" linux distro that is 99.9 virus free and allows me to my basic things.

  • LOL you never heard of tiger direct or new egg "look under bare bones kits" You can buy any freaking thing you want and toss Linux on it. I have an awesome freaking net top I paid $225 for new. It runs Meego for all the basics including Chrome for a browser. It dual boots with Debian in an XFCE desktop that does everything else. Lightning freaking fast. Boot times are under 10 seconds from power button press to desktop.

    Happy Nix user

  • Another one who saw the light! APPLE SUCKS!

  • People, I like apple, it's very nice, but lately, it is really getting on my nerves. I am thinking of wiping lion off my hard drive and replacing it with Ubuntu 11.04.

  • @gronkifronk My advice is leave a little room for your native OS on there. Then place Ubuntu or any Linux of your choice partitioned on your remaining hard drive.

  • @gronkifronk You should replace it with Linux mint debian! :)

  • @gronkifronk May I suggest giving Fedora 15 a try. Nothing wrong with Ubuntu (it actually got me back into using Linux) but I switched to Fedora 15 a couple of months ago and I prefer it a lot more. You can't go wrong with either but Ithink Gnome 3 is superior to Unity.

  • @gronkifronk if i were you get vmware fusion then install ubuntu on there, i did that and i thought it was pretty cool.

  • @gronkifronk MOTHER OF GOD NOT UBUNTU 11.04 OR LATER!!! LITERALLY SAVE YOUR SELF!! Go for Linux Mint or Puppy Linux. Or. . . get Ubuntu 10.10.... The Unity desktop sucks ass bro. Just use a later Ubuntu distro. I cringe at the thought that that version represents the Linux OS. T.T

  • @gronkifronk Be careful about 11:04, I tried it and it is NOT the best of the bunch. Just now they came out with Ubuntu 11:10, but I have never had any experience with it.

I heard nothing but nice things about 10:10, but I don't think it comes with flash nore java.

Just letting you know so you can have an easier experience, it will be easy to find these things don't worry..

  • @DChatc Man Ubuntu 11.4 is a one of two best Linux distributions of 2011 for ordinary users.

The winner of 2011 is Linux Mint 11 Katya. Ubuntu 11.10 is still not ready for any hardware

  • @datzthecloud 11.10 work flawless for me.!

  • @gronkifronk I dont know if 11.04 is good for u i would go for 10.10 because 11.04 just has so many bugs with effects and things just somthing u should look into....

  • you look a little bit like charlie sheen

  • Lion was the last straw. Two hours for a seasoned Apple person to fight with their system to just build anything at the command line? Apple is not going anywhere I want to go.

  • I agree with the author of this video. Even better - I think Linux gives you much more options than MacOSX. It enables you to do many things in many ways, not only "the Apple way". That being said - I have nothing against MacOSX. I think it's a very good OS for the beginners not familiar with system innards and it basically just works.

  • Lastly, (after two previous comments) you just said that you're thinking about all the fun with cool effects and distro updates. Well, you haven't said what work you do on your machine. That matters a lot when choosing an OS. If you're a graphic designer, I think Linux is not your choice. If you're a web developer, then Linux is good enough for you. So, you forgot to mention what you do on your OS.

But the problem with Linux is it doesn't support most software. You have to run under WINE compatibility layer, but it doesn't work as good. I ran MS Word, Photoshop etc on WINE but I couldn't be satisfied with it. Some others including IDM doesn't even work on it. Even my WiMAX USB Modem doesn't work on LInux at all.

That's when Mac rolls in for me. I know it's overpriced. But I love the design. I know it's more stable than Windows (not Linux, tho) and supports most soft.:)

I know your point but from my perspective I don't agree.

First of all, I've been an Ubuntu user for some two years now. I use it for most of my net surfing purpose. However, it's my secondary OS and primary OS is Windows 7. The main reason I hate Windows is it gets slower and slower over time. No matter what you do, it will be slower, you can't stop it. Still I'm bound to use it because most software run on it.

Linux is good, but (see the next comment)

  • Linux is the best tbh

  • "I hope that you lot remain my friends even though I don't like Apple anymore..." LOLOLOL

  • its time... join with windows 7 mac and windows REPRESENT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • apple will always be a marginal company so long as they insist on having totalitarian control of their users. With apple your confined to what the benevolent overseers want you to have. With OSX shifting towards an app store, apple is in effect exerting control over the software you can use and install. In the name of security - apple will block non app store apps from loading. MS should rehash that 1984 commercial. It would be so true.

  • @SpecialEdAllstar Really? Oh! so thats why I can run Windows or Linux legally in bootcamp on my iMac and you can't legally run OSX on a "PC." Also, now I know why I can chose to get my apps from the Mac App Store, or go the old fashioned way and download off the developers website if the app store doesn't have what I need. Geez, if it wasn't for you telling me, I never would of thought Apple had totalitarian control over me. Thanks dude! Now I understand! Wait...none of that made sense...
