Which?: Canon EOS 550D hands on first look

I'd be lost without Which? membership as my review guide before indepth analysing, testing and purchasing value products, though I cancelled my Which? membership last year, it was really helpful, along with reviews on the net from other customers before purchasing anything.

is it okay to use 4gbs on taking long videos? please tell me what type of sdcard is better and can be use for longer time... thank you. :)

@melaiganda11116 you need to buy SDHC class 6 or class 10 otherwise your camera will stop recording within 5 seconds because of the slower speed of the lower class cards.

and 4GB HDSC card will give you i think not more than half an hour's recording. or even less. depends on your settings.

@sine0 All depends on what you want out of a camcorder and how comffortable you are with manual settings. To get the most out of the camera you are going to have to use manual mode which means that this is not a camera to replace a point and shoot camcorder. Also it is a lot more bulky than a dedicated video camera. It does produce nice images but there are trade-offs you have to make for that. If your only criteria is 'How do I make the best looking videos on a budget?' then definitely buy this

That button he mentions when taking photos (to shoot video instantly) is NOT CORRECT. It is the button for LIVE VIEW Photograph Shooting (Stills).

You do need to go to Video Mode to do video..

Also 1080p at 30FPS is for NTSC Video capability (US FORMAT)

My one shows 1080p for 25FPS for PAL Format (UK AND EUROPE)

If you're using that camera after having it on the cinema floor like that, I'd give it a bloody good clean afterwards! You can pick up at least 14 diseases in any cinema in this country - and it's been like that for at least ten years now!

This will be a great upgrade from my 300D, Was first thinking about the 500D but since this one aint that much more expensive i will go for a 550D!

i want this, my 450D will find the way to ebay when this comes out in april. was looking for a cheap HD camcorder because I primarily take pictures but want to be able to take videos if necesary. the difference between what IO get for 450D and what I have to pay for 550D is what I would have spent on a camcorder anyway...

I like the 60fps feature, I am driving fast modelcars offroad, that should give nice slomos.

If this goes for the rumored $900 including kit lens in the US and £900 in the UK when the pound is hovering around the £1 = $1.50 mark, expect to a LOT of anger and a boost to overseas tourism. The problem with that, aside from not being strictly legal if you're evading customs duty, is, I believe, the camera body won't be covered by international warranty.

I appreciate the video, but quite understandably, a photographer's viewpoint, does not fully grasp the video capability. 24fps was not mentioned. Secondly, I would never use 60fps for "smooth" video. I would shoot 60, so I can pull it down to 30 in slow motion, or shoot 50, so I can pull it down to 24.95~ in slow motion.

Either way, this camera is amazing!

Also, why the quotes of 900 pounds? I thought all the rumers said it was going to sell for $900...not $1405!
