No, there is no such thing as evil spirits and demons. When people go crazy and/or do evil things it's because of chemical imbalances in the brain. However,I would like to let non-believers know that I do not think that even if a person is possessed by a demonic spirit they should be let off the hook or not punished for criminal behavior. So,for me,believing in demonic possession is not my way of excusing people for the crimes they commit. It is just one of many explanations for their crimes that I believe to be valid.

I think this is a great subject. I know psychiatrists would say that they are sociopaths without remorse. However, Son of Sam, David Berkowitz said he was possessed at the time. He turned to religion in prison and he isn't doing it to get out because he is in jail without parole. Also, a girl I knew found her mother strangled to death at 15 y.o. by her mom's boyfriend. I think that people that commit such unspeakable crimes have a heavy history behind them. Things such as violent movies only contribute to the negative within people who have such a history or are vulnerable.

To start, I think the people you described are mentally unstable, i.e., their brains are wired the same as a quote normal person and they work differently than the average persons. Second I believe many of these people have been traumatized during their life which has contributed to their indefensible behavior.
I dont think we will ever know why? I think we all have something that can trigger us to go insane. But some of us are able to understand this is not right. Plus those who act insane have a chemical imbalance i believe. Its just a SAD world we live in. All we can do is be careful and beaware of your surroundings.
i read a book called people of the lie/scott peck..and it was brilliant in how it described the conciousness of evil how sophisticated its was in how it manifested in so many ways..even justified itself thru the actions of others how it often needs no reason..it has taken on a life of its own and is as prolific in the mainstream as any politically correct dogma..judo/christian pathos aside evil is as real as the air your breathe
If you watch MSNBC's show "Lock Up," a lot of the men who are locked up for such crimes will tell you that they felt possessed or that they "blacked out," and don't even remember committing their crimes. They will even say that they heard voices talking to them. They even believe that they were possessed.

That's what I meant by the 18th century comment back then they would blame demons for mental illness. This is a horible crime! The guy did it himself. No demons told him to do it. No demons, people become violent due to frustration which leads to anger then violence. Also mistreatment early in life causing one to have contempt for all people and to place little or no value on life.

Ephesians 2:2 says - "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air (Satan), the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient." This passage is discribing who we are BEFORE we are made alive in Christ through salvation. Satan has INFLUENCE over people. Oh ugh. I didn't know about this. I have an open mind about spirits, but don't know. I do think a combination of alot of things making people less healthy-movies, stress, but most of all problems in childhood-make it possible for people to get deluded into doing destructive things.
Read some of the stuff online by Alice Miller, a psychologist who particularly worked studying extremely abusive dictators. Primal psychotherapy page has some interesting stuff on demonic-type killers.

To add to my last pt (yeah, I have a lot to say on this), I'm a heterosexual male. If I saw a fine lady and thought, 'wow, she's hot,' that is normal and healthy. However, if I thought this same thing and then went (hypothetically) and raped her, I have committed an evil and unlawful act. Not crazy, just made a horribly bad, shameful act. Exactly! Great comment.I totally agree with you. I feel that demon posession has become more prevalent than we think. We are living in the last days and the devil knows it. "Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time."(Rev.12:12). This is all Biblical. Not everything bad is caused by demonic spirits, but they do exist and they cause things like this to happen. That's what I think.

However,I would like to let non-believers know that I do not think that even if a person is possessed by a demonic spirit they should be let off the hook or not punished for criminal behavior. So,for me,believing in demonic possession is not my way of excusing people for the crimes they commit. It is just one of many explanations for their crimes that I believe to be valid.

I totally agree with you. The reason behind someone's behavior doesn't excuse that person. I'm with you in believing that someone should not be let off the hook just because they have a reason for commiting a crime. Demonic posession is just an explanation as to why someone would do something terrible, it's not an excuse for it.

I think this is a great subject. I know psychiatrists would say that they are sociopaths without remorse. However, Son of Sam, David Berkowitz said he was possessed at the time. He turned to religion in prison and he isn't doing it to get out because he is in jail without parole. Also, a girl I knew found her mother strangled to death at 15 y.o. by her mom's boyfriend. He convinced the jury that he bought this old bottle and when he opened it up he got possessed. I need to make a vid response.

No. What I think is that humans don't want to accept responsibility for their own evil acts. As a result we resort to superstitious explanations to give ourselves and excuse. PEOPLE ARE EVIL. Our desires and wants cloud nearly every decision we make. I've never seen the "devil" but I have seen humans with devilish ways. Therefore using Ockhams Razor the simplest explanation is that man is responsible for all of the evil. Not some mystery spook.

I think that people that commit such unspeakable crimes have a heavy history behind them. Things such as violent movies only contribute to the negative within people who have such a history or are vulnerable.
What I heard about demonic posessions is that it is sudden. It affects more people who are vulnerable but also spiritualy weak. A nigerian pastor who knew people who work on the dark side said that the forces that they invoke can affect elements that are neutral such as the sun.

To start, I think the people you described are mentally unstable, i.e., their brains are wired the same as a quote normal person and they work differently than the average persons. Second I believe many of these people have been traumatized during their life which has contributed to their indefensible behavior.

If you watch MSNBC's show "Lock Up," a lot of the men who are locked up for such crimes will tell you that they felt possessed or that they "blacked out," and don't even remember committing their crimes. They will even say that they heard voices talking to them. They even believe that they were possessed.
