  • The Best Song Of "Orphan"!Best memories...

  • He left us with only good memories--and simple wisdom. A wonderful man. A wonderful life.

  • He left us all with only good memories--and simple wisdom. A wonderful man. A wonderful life.

  • "Pablo, he does to faces what I do to words" This shows that Durante was quite erudite behind his goofy exterior.

  • Dont it just get ya , right there! :)

  • It's funny how the word "entertainer" encompasses so many styles and people. It can begin by opening up your mind to something new and different. Jimmy Durante may seem dated, but his ability to make one laugh at even the corniest jokes and be stunned by his piano skill make him immortal to those who open their eyes and hearts. THANX!

  • Amazing..real talent here. Jimmy did not need stage gimmicks as many of today's so called performers rely upon. All he needed was a stool, a mic and his personality. THAT is the mark of a great performer.

  • Jimmy,

Men like you never die.One day,for some reason they vanish and keep singing somewhere in the sea.I was a kid when I heard your "As time goes by ",and some sunsets, on the white beaches of the Gulf, in Florida,I can still hear your voice,as I walk along, and time goes by.See you Durante !,noi non te abbiamo dimenticato.

  • @MrJuma30 Put Beautifully. :)

  • I was pretty young when Jimmy made a series of hits, when he wasn't young [I thought]. Then I saw him a dozen years later still entertaining the troops. MRS. Kalabash tell Jimmy we said "Inka Dinka Doo".

  • @MasterofCrude I was a teen in the late '50s & early '60s, His show was immensely popular, but I looked forward most to his monologues and singing at the end; they demonstrated that he was not only a comedian, but a man with a great, big heart. He was an entertainer from head to toe; he gave his humor and love to all; he especially enjoyed entertaining the troops.

So, wherever you are Jimmy, we all wish we could hear you say one more time:

Goodnight Mrs. Kalabash ~ wherever you are.

  • nothing beats jimmy.. thumbs up Orphan!

  • I'm glad there was a properly mastered version of this song. Sounds great.

  • I wish I was in that audience.

  • Is everyone loving this walk down memory lane like i am?

  • @SkyAngel1959 Immensely ,the best memories are the ones that bring tears and smiles, at the same time.

  • AMAZING, thank you thank you for sharing =D

  • As heard on the film Orphan, In which a nutty little killer bitch named Esther sang in a bathtub.

  • @yogafan6500 She is not a bitch xD She is my little friend >:3

  • Thanks Jimmy

  • The Platters sang it in the late 50's

  • Benny Goodman did it in 1938 as well

  • I give up. I'm getting increasingly certain that DenTel has access to content from the Smithsonian or the Museum of Broadcasting. When I saw his Hollywood Palace material, I couldn't recall whether consumer color VCRs were available then. But I see The Palace aired from '64 to '70, so now I'm certain DenTel's got an inside connection—UNLESS this great content was once available on a nostalgia-type channel. Whatever the case, it's truly, truly great material and we should all be grateful. Thanks!

  • who's the nut who dislikes this? :(

  • One line in this song, "there's a lot said about the young today" those young he was refering too are our grandparents how time flies

  • Thanks for the original version. Much love it.

  • @lamadelyna Not sure this is "the original." Sophie Tucker, "the last of the red-hot mamas," had a hit with it & kind of made it her theme song. Her picture is on the original 1936 sheet music.

I'm not sure if she released it as a single record or just used it in live performances, but she was definitely one of the first artists to make the song famous, and this was well before television became a household item.

  • @MandyTVLK Durante predates TV, too; but what does it matter who was first to release it. Enjoy it in all its renditions. It's the message in the song that made it so popular. From the time it was first released, almost everybody who was anybody in show business performed and/or recorded "The Glory of Love". There are still those who perform it today. Love is love, regardless of who feels it or who sings about it--or when. Like Durante pointed out: "You can't live widout it."

  • @MandyTVLK Willie Bryant and His Orchestra was the original from 1936, followed by Rudy Vallee also in 1936, and thirdly Benny Goodman and His Orchestra also 1936. The song was written by Billy Hill.

  • oh wow? i like this :)

  • Esther loved this song so much!

  • very nice

  • this song always makes me cry

  • words of wisdom from one of the great entertainers of the 20th century, Jimmy Durante.

Even old he could still get up there and make us smile!

    What a man!

  • Wonderful!

  • ganas de llorar a chorros.....la calidad humana artistica es unica..........viva jimmy....viva la epoca de las verdaderas glorias...........

  • Well-said Jimmy. This man knows how to speak as well as how to sing. Justin Bieber has NOTHING on this wonderful, gentle man.

  • Who can't appreciate this? Very nice.

  • That's entertainment as it should be.

  • Spoken like a real man Mr. Durante!

  • perfect - he´s one of the greatest

  • The shadow from the light hitting his beautiful schnozzola.

  • is it me or does he have hitler mustache

  • He has a relaxed contemplative way about him

that has an amazing soothing effect

  • Or a Pi-cass-i-o *laughter*

  • @NaturVita yeah i know i agree

  • There will be noone like this cat...hell of a guy =]]

  • i only looked this up coz i was bored and i sung that song at an assembly for my school choir lol :)

  • "There's a lotta talk about young people today, but I tell ya folks, if their philosophy is based on love, count me in!"

Count me in too, Jimmy! Preach it, brother!

    This guy rocked.

  • yeah he does, so does Sinatra, they make me proud to have Italian blood.:)

  • Such a sweet heart he was! lol

  • Thanks for the memories :) I love Jimmy Durante!

  • I just loved the Jimmy Durante show. I am grateful for the pleasure he gave me thru the years. We won't see his kind again. Not a great voice but an entertainer. My god what an entertainer.

  • The good old days---when TV was real entertainment... Today with technical advancement comes mediocrity.

  • I think that just comes with the fact that you're reminiscing about your past that makes it seem better. Many things seem better when you add the value of nostalgia to it. While I agree that there's a lot of junk on TV now, that's not to say that wasn't the case in the old days, neither does that mean there aren't anything good on today. Also, there are a hell of a lot more channels today than there were in decades ago.

  • I love this song!!! It makes me :). Yay!! I made the 1st comment. :P
